The first installment of an epic fantasy trilogy for fans of Leigh Bardugo and Claire Legrand.
Meraki Vargea is the carefree prince heir of Clan Vargea. When a Great War ravages the clans of the Hygsten Range, alliances crumble, empires rise on their borders, and Meraki is thrust into her role as prince heir that she was never expected to fill before. In the midst of widespread chaos, as well as the emergence of a dangerous secret involving the dark magic that got her own mother killed, she has to decide if the sacrifice of her morals and her friendships are worth the protection of the life she thought she knew. But that decision is ripped from her regardless, and the prince is torn between two lives; one as savior of her clan, and the other as a disgraced outcast, bound in servitude to a lesser god as punishment for her sins committed during the war. After ten years of living as an outcast, war returns on their borders, and those lives, past and present, become hopelessly entangled. The life she thought she left behind. The father she left behind. The shoes of leadership she never thought she could fill—was afraid to fill. Can she truly come back to it? Even if it means facing the ghosts of those she once loved? The ghosts she betrayed, and was betrayed by in return? What she chooses has the power to shake even the gods above and below, watching her every move. One stumble, and the world will burn.
Hi! I'm Jo, an indie author based in the DC area. Aside from being a self proclaimed author (I have no idea what I'm doing), I'm an artist, a dog enthusiast, and I do Muay Thai.
Thank you so much to the author for sending me a copy of this! I loved it!
It starts off with Meraki as a ghost Hunter, and I was KEEN, she’s in servitude to a god, but we don’t know what happened and what lead to her being where she is, she has some badass magic, and I was excited to see where the story went.
It didn’t go at all where I expected it to, but I loved it all the same! If you love epic fantasies, with a lil politics, some budding slow burn romance (no spice though), high stakes, and a war with everything on the line then you’ll love this!
Meraki is a bad ass through and through, and I loved her relationship with her cousin, Atara, as well as the slow burn between her and Adrial!
The only downside to reading this before it’s release is I now have to wait even longer for the second book to see what happens next!
jo is one of my mutuals and as a fellow writer i of course wanted to support her debut novel! i was having the time of my life reading this i was so hooked right from the beginning, the slow burn is immaculate i loved these characters and all their chemistry and also the magic system??? so cool! i can’t wait to see the characters stories continue and i’m especially excited to see more *current day* meraki, and adriel! also the good soup line at the begging of the book TOOK ME OUT i was actually geeking! that’s being said y’all should read this escpeially because the way this ends just leaves you wanting more!!
I actually rather enjoyed this book. I don't typically read books like this, but I'm glad I did. The details and the characters! Ah! I just loved Meraki and how she's struggles throughout the book. She's having to deal with so much and ahh! I want to learn more! Thank you so much for letting me read this. I hope to read more about the characters pasts and learn more about what's to come.
I got this book when it released and I wasn’t able to finish it because I was too busy, but I finally sat myself down and read it & I could not put it down! It had me giggling and smiling, and it had my heart beating fast. I truly cannot wait to read more about Meraki and Adriel !!
I loved this book! The writing and characters were amazing! What a strong bad ass MC facing their demons! The slowburn romance has me squealing even without spice! I can not wait for the next book!
