Diary of a Heartbreak Kid: Shawn Michaels' Journey into the WWE Hall of Fame

Rate this book
It's the week of Wrestlemania, an event that began the same year as Shawn Michaels' decorated career, an annual spectacular that The Heartbreak Kid seized time after time as his personal stage of excellence. Such a grand setting could not be more appropriate for WWE’s one and only Showstopper to add "Mr. Hall of Fame" to his myriad monikers.

From his debut in 1984 to his final WWE match in 2010, the world has seen Michaels allure audiences and perform like no other entertainer in history. But that's inside the ring. What if you could walk beside the incomparable Heartbreak Kid outside the squared circle, beyond the curtain and spend four days with the man living a boyhood dream?

Diary of a Heartbreak Kid shadows Shawn Michaels for an immensely poignant occasion of reflection, introspection and celebration as The Heartbreak Kid is inducted into the esteemed WWE Hall of Fame on Saturday, April 2, 2011.

In a moment-to-moment narrative, Diary captures the raw emotions and unfiltered candor of The Heartbreak Kid as he's reunited with family, friends and a veritable who's who of squared circle lore – Triple H, "Stone Cold" Steve Austin, Ric Flair, The Rock, Vince McMahon – all of whom have crossed and shaped Michaels' path to the Hall of Fame.

With his beautiful wife, two jubilant children, time tested faith and nearly three decades of four-cornered memories, the retired Michaels steps back into the warmth of the limelight during the weekend of WWE's grandest extravaganza to experience the greatest honor in sports-entertainment. And with Diary of a Heartbreak Kid, you're riding shotgun.

The Diary of a Heartbreak Kid is a great e-book, but you need to know what you're buying. This is not a full-length book; in print, it might be 50-75 pages, and it took me about one hour to read. And despite what the title and cover might lead you to believe, Shawn Michaels didn't write it. It was written by Craig Tello, an author who followed him during Wrestlemania weekend before, during, and after Michaels' induction into the WWE Hall of Fame. That said, Tello told a good story that's well-written and would be enjoyed most by casual fans. If you're looking for a light read and you're a Shawn Michaels fan, I recommend this book. If you're looking for an in-depth look at his life, you might want to get his autobiography instead.

This book wasn't quite what I had hoped it would be. It starts with a VERY brief overview of Shawn Michaels' career and the jumps up to the lead up to his induction into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2011. The book seemed more like a Cliff Notes than an actual book and took very little time to read. And Kayfabe was in full effect as well which is fine I guess because the book seemed to be written for a young fan more than an adult. If you want to know more about Shawn, I'd stick to his autobiography and pass on this effort.

This book was a cool insight into the process a WWE Legend goes through on the weekend they are inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame. It follows Shawn Michaels all throgh Wrestlemania weekend for his induction. It's awesome for a wrestling fan like myself.
