Shaken: An M/M Bartender/CEO Daddy BDSM Romance

Rate this book
Jameson is a man with a past he'd give anything to forget. All he cares about now is making money and finding ways to scratch his itch without commitment. He craves submission but he's not about to let someone in if that's what it takes to get it. Hook ups will have to do. When an unexpected job offer comes his way that promises a significant pay raise, he's not going to turn it down. Not even if his new boss and CEO is everything he's ever wanted in a man and submissive. He's probably straight anyway, right?

Oliver has been sheltered from the difficulties of life for as long as he can remember. Born into wealth, never having to work too hard for anything, he seems to have the perfect life. But Oliver know it's far from perfect. He's full of anxiety and he can't seem to love himself. He's always assumed he was straight until a tall, taciturn and sexy-as-hell man walks into his life and he's shaken to his core. Jameson is everything he had no idea he wanted, and he can't help himself. He's losing control and for once, he doesn't want it. Jameson has opened the door to a whole new world and he couldn't go back if he tried.

Jameson and Oliver are playing with fire, trying to keep professional barriers at work while they explore their sizzling chemistry in secret. But there's still skeletons in Jameson's closet, and Oliver's so-called charmed life is build on a foundation of lies that he knows nothing about. Between the secrets, lies, and old enemies, can Jameson and Oliver find a way to overcome their circumstances and build something that will last?

Author's Note: The Forbidden Cocktail series is a Bi-awakening M/M BDSM romance full of angst, hurt/comfort and kink. This is a slow burn series, so expect to find a realistic timeline for the progression of their relationship. Oliver is new to men and to BDSM and he needs time to explore and push his limits. Shaken is a very tame spice level, but it's going to get kinkier and kinkier with each book. This book ends on a cliffhanger, but Jameson and Oliver will absolutely get their eventual HEA. Look out for the following kinks to be featured or Daddy kink, Praise, Humiliation, Degradation, and Feminization. There will be lots more to come in part 2!

Could be amazing with a tiny bit more editing

I really wanted to love this book because it has a lot of my favorite tropes: boss/employee, D/s, hurt/comfort. I especially liked Oliver, and related to his anxiety.

The book could use a tiny bit more editing, however. Some words meant to be plural were missing an s, and there was a TON of introspection that seemed to drag on at times (not a huge fan). Oliver and Jameson seemed to flip flop between feelings in an odd way that was confusing. I constantly felt like they would think/do one thing, then think/do something completely opposite. It made it hard to get a good feel for who the characters really are.

Also, it's written in 3rd person present POV, which I actively dislike.

Do I regret reading this book? Absolutely not! It's worth a read, especially in KU. I could see it appealing to someone who enjoyed 3rd person present POV and lots of introspection from their main characters.

Wow!

A really fascinating read, all the actions and reactions so discerningly described. I very much look forward to the sequel.
