2012: Timeline Apocalypse

Rate this book
It is Wednesday, December 12, 2012. In nine days the Mayan calendar ends and the apocalyptic disaster will befall mankind. Ironically, the fate of the world is in the hands of Barry Hargrove, a two-bit detective, who is in search of a relic known as the Baton of Time, whose importance he does not fully comprehend. There are many secrets to be revealed from an unlikely group of a skeptical doctor, a sexy newscaster, a small Mayan street urchin, a shaman, a housekeeper, and a ghostly Mayan priest. They must somehow work together to align the forces of the Mayan calendar, and save our world. 2012: Timeline Apocalypse is not a typical doomsday disaster, but a tale interwoven with the myths and legends of the Mayan calendar, and its curious end-date. Our solar system passes the center of the Milky Way in December 2012 - can our civilization be saved? Only in Palenque, at the ruins of L'akam Ha, city of the ancient chief K'inich Janahb' Pacal, can the true meaning of the calendar be deciphered... if time does not run out first.

The Mayan calendar is an engima for practically everyone and very many people are looking at the calendar end-date: 12/21/12 as a doomsday. This novel is an interesting read of the Mayan life, religion, myths and legends then challenges today's hero to become involved. How can a 2-bit detective, a hot newscaster, a strange doctor, a street urchin and a few other characters come together to address the truth about the calendar and the end-of-time? I enjoyed taking true facts and weaving them into my fiction. See if you can figure out which is truth and which is my imagination. Each chapter will keep you turning the pages to see what comes next; from howler monkeys to dark, secret rooms of the temple. The Mayan gods are walking; can you see them?

I really liked this book. The detective is likeable and relateable, the story super intriguing and interesting and I love that it's based in history and facts. I think Bob Nailor did a great job with the ending as well, coming up with something really unique. If folks like end of the world scenarios, this is a great one to read - fun, easy and enjoyable!
