Some people just seem to know they are meant to write, but it can still take a while to figure out exactly what their career will entail. Kate Douglas started out writing radio copy for a country western radio station in 1972, wrote and illustrated an educational cartoon strip for the American Mosquito Control Association for a number of years, was a newspaper reporter for a small town weekly where she covered everything from high school sports to drug busts, and then, in the mid-1980s, decided to write her first romance.

Many submissions and rejections followed.

In 1998, she sold to a small ebook publisher before anyone knew what an ebook was, but it wasn't until 2005, a full twenty years after finishing that first romance, that she signed with a New York publisher.

In January 2006, Kensington Publishing launched their Aphrodisia imprint of erotic romance with Kate's Wolf Tales, a sexy paranormal series about a lost race of shapeshifters. She went on to write 21 novels and novellas in that series, then wrote three other series for Kensington before moving to St. Martin's Press.

She has two series with SMP--The Intimate Relations series complete with three novels and one novella of romantic suspense set in California's wine country, and an erotic paranormal series, Feral Passions, set in California's Trinity Alps.

She is also continuing her Spirit Wild series, the sequel to Wolf Tales, independently.

Kate and her husband of over forty-five years have two adult children and six grandchildren. They live in the small town of Healdsburg, California, in the heart of the beautiful Sonoma County wine country.

ADULT BOOK = ADULT REVIEW

Ok so if you know me you know I am a HUGE Kate Douglas Fan. I have all her stuff (some of it signed teehee) I buy whatever she puts out as soon as it comes out even though I may have beta read it or received an ARC... DOES NOT MATTER... she writes it, I buy it ;-)

I was so sad to see her Wolf Tales series end because you can read that series and see her progression from an erotica author to an author that writes amazing stories that happen to have lots and lots of steamy HOT sex. So this book made me ecstatic because it is written the same way. In Dream Bound we get that same feeling of love with our extremely hot love scenes.

MacArthur Dugan or "Mac" has spent the last twenty years and 60 million dollars building a facility to rescue his lost love Zianne from her prison  in a spaceship hiding behind our moon. Mac recruits 6 professionals to bring them to the facility in hopes of getting them to project their sexual fantasies into space, thus enabling the Nyrians  to take form and contact them. I am really not doing this story any justice there is so much more to it but I don't want to give anything away.

What you need to know is this is an amazing story that has characters with depth. But also it is sexy as all get out. We have the master Douglas to write us some sizzling encounters. In this particular one you get a m/m,  m/m/f, m/f/m and they are all toe curling erotic.

What did catch me off guard was her amazing cliffhanger, I don't remember her doing that to much to me!!! Now I am impatiently ....er.... eagerly waiting for Dream Unchained. *hint hint*

This one gets my top Rating the "Super Smooch" it has all the elements I love in an erotica novel.

Recommended for Adults who enjoy erotica with some same sex relationships.

And here is my Mac....

Bradley Cooper, yummy!

DREAM BOUND by Kate Douglas

In this erotic romance story, extreme, hot, sexual fantasizing is used as an energy source to attempt to save an alien race of people, the Nyrians, from a lifetime of imprisonment and at the same time save Earth from being stripped of all its resources and left as a dead rock floating in the universe.

In the first story in this series (Dream Catcher in the NightShift anthology) , Mac Dugan met Zianne, a time-traveling alien from a spaceship in orbit near Earth 20 years in the future, and fell in love with her.

Together they formulated a plan to save her people, the Nyrians from slavery and at the same time, save the Earth from alien invasion and certain death. The Gar are a cruel race of aliens, keeping the Nyrians as prisoners to power their star cruiser. When they are near a planet with abundant natural resources, the Gar attack the planet, strip the resources and store them in the ship for their own uses, leaving the planet dead.

Mac, a computer engineer has spent the last 20 years building a huge satellite array capable of sending energy as well as identifying energy pulses coming from outer space. Now Mac is taking his team of 6 people to the array to begin trying to communicate with the Nyrians. The team all have extrasensory perceptions/abilities and the capability of mental telepathy, as well as admitting to extreme sexual fantasies and open sexual lifestyles.

This story is rich with sexual fantasies using mind games the 6 humans play with each other, the actual physical sexual interactions between the humans, and also with the Nyrians, when they are able to come to Earth in human form. All this sexual energy being created is intended to be used to rescue the Nyrians and their soulstones from the alien ship.

Add in basic human nature which fears the unknown, a government unwilling to believe such outlandish ideas such as an alien ship hiding behind the moon about to attack the Earth, and the Media, who would love a story to end all stories, and this novel of the first known aliens coming to Earth comes to life.

This was a very enjoyable read, with some suspense within the story, and of course, lots of sexual tension. The characters were believable, even the aliens came to life on the pages of this book. Lots and lots of hot, steamy sex with emotional connections coming together, and this book kept me sucked in until the very end. This is Part 2 of a series, and the conclusion was perfectly timed to lead into the last book, which will be out later in the year.

Dream Bound was such a different book for me, in all the right ways. It is very different from everything that I have read recently.

Mac has brought together his dream team of six highly intelligent individuals who have tested high in every test he could them through, especially psychically. He has also assured that the group is very open minded when it comes to their sexual desires and wants. He needs them at a facility he had built based on a four month relationship he had twenty years ago, with a being from another time and planet.

Twenty years ago Mac met and fell in love with his dream lover. She is a dream lover in more ways than any person could ever imagine. Nyrian’s feed off of energy, sexual fantasies fuel them the most. Zianne put her and her few remaining peoples trust and lives in Mac’s very capable hands. She has given him a future date and the knowledge of the technology needed to free her and the other Nyrian’s being held captive aboard a hostile alien spacecraft.

Keep in mind this is an erotic romance. The characters engage in sex with multiple partners, same sex partners, anal sex, oral sex, and some extraordinarily erotic fantasy sex projected to others through telepathic bonds and technology designed to project to beings on a distant spacecraft. The sex scenes in Dream Bound are scorching hot, leave you fanning yourself hot, so hot that there is in fact a ‘you’re getting a sexually charged book that will burn your hands’ warning on the back of the book. The sex in this book is plentiful and amazingly erotic.

I found out from stalking Kate’s website that there is a prequel to Dream Bound. Dream Catcher can be found in the Nightshift anthology. I can honestly say if you want to skip the novella and go directly into Dream Bound you can without any problems. I am however curious enough about Mac and Zianne that I intend to read Nightshift as soon as it arrives in my mailbox. Dream Unchained has an October 31, 2012 release date and it is the final book in the series. I cannot wait to get my hands on it!

Either I'm getting too old to be reviewing erotica or there is such a thing as too much sex in a book.

Kate Douglas' Dream Bound has too much sex. There. I said it. The premise is that a forty-something-year-old man, Mac Dugan, made contact with an alien race twenty years ago through the power of his sexual fantasies. During a four-month stint in which the alien returned to him nightly, Dugan begins plans to save the alien's race from the other alien race that imprisons it on a spaceship on the dark side of the moon.

By recruiting six super-smart and telepathically gifted people, he builds a team twenty years after his contact to help give these aliens human bodies and help them escape. The team members do this by sharing their sexual fantasies in a remote compound Mac has built.

In the midst of these sexual fantasies, every. single. encounter. is at least a menage a trois or more. It's becoming the new missionary position in erotica, but when every sex scene is pretty much the same, it gets old, and I found myself skimming over the sex scenes. Which were plentiful with six nubile team members, in addition to Mac. The only non-menage sex that I can remember was an initial encounter in the first few pages of the book. If variety is the spice of erotica, Dream Bound was as bland as baby cereal.

The worst part? You don't get an ending. To find out what happens, you need to read the next book, coming out in November. This is a first book in a duology (if you don't count the short story that kicked it off, which appeared in an anthology) that doesn't stand on its own.

For the last 20 years Mac Dugan has put all his knowledge and money into technology that is beyond this world. The woman of his dreams life is at stake as is the fate of earth. Only his dream team can communicate with the Nyrians. A spirit alien race imprisoned on a space ship near earth.
Communication is through the energy generated through their dreams. And what hot dreams and fantasies they are. !!!!!!!

While I like the idea of the story and there were many high points there were several stuttering moments.

A man who knows his future is waiting for him fights hard and works harder to save the woman he loves and her people.

Twenty years ago Mac Dugan found the love of his life and lost her. But he is a man that has a second chance. His love is from the future, his present to be exact. He spoke to her over time and space and she taught him what he needs to know to save her people. The time is now!

Mac has brought together his Dream Team; three men and three women that have a little extra and a lot of sexuality. With his equipment and their imaginations they are setting out to save Mac’s love Zianne and her people, the Nyrians. Their connection as a group is instant, strong and amazing. They are more than Mac ever expected and success is in his grasp.

I found the concept behind this story really quite remarkable. Ms. Douglas has taken the notion of dreams and fantasy to a whole new level. What if you were really able to project your fantasies into reality and in the same time save a whole race? Dream Bound is wonderfully refreshing and beyond sexy. Ms. Douglas can write love, sex and passion like nobody’s business and she will always be a must read for me and she didn’t disappoint here.

While the story revolves around the rescuing of Zianne and her people there are actually nine characters. I was drawn to each and every one of them. While some are more front-and-center than others, I could feel that by the time this tale is told they will all be well loved friends. Each person is unique and the way they are written makes them all special yet familiar.

Dream Bound is marketed as an erotic romance novel. However, there really isn’t a true “couple”. The book does have love and discovery between its pages though. There also isn’t a happy ever after ending, but a happily for now. It is apparent that it is meant to be a series. Even with the ending left open, Ms. Douglas doesn’t leave us with a cliff hanger. You are left satisfied and ready for the next in the series. I personally can’t wait for November, when Dream Unchained is scheduled to be released.

I would highly recommend that you read her short story Dream Catcher in the Nightshift anthology before you start this novel. Dream Catcher sets the stage for Dream Bound beautifully and you get a good view into Mac’s reasoning for his lifelong passion. I could have easily read Dream Bound without it, but I’m glad I didn’t. Please don’t let not being able to read the prequel deter you from picking up this novel though. You will not be lost; the experience will be just as fulfilling and enjoyable. Dream Bound is full of sensual fantasies, likeable characters and a plot that is imaginative, vivid and fascinating.

Dream Bound is a spellbinding tale of second chances, new love and the power of fantasies. It’s another keeper for my “Kate Douglas” section of my library. Yes, she has a row all for herself. Pick up Dream Bound and find out why!

Dream Bound by Kate Douglas
Grade: B

“You couldn’t have an orgy and leave out the guy who brought the beer.”

Dream Bound is so different from anything else out there and it is so good you won’t be able to put it down. As I first started reading I kept thinking “I’ve read this before” and it took me a few days to realize that last year I reviewed Night Shift which contains the novella Dream Catcher by Kate Douglas. Dream Catcher is the prequel to Dream Bound and takes place twenty years before Dream Bound and when Mac is just meeting Zianne. I highly encourage everyone to read Dream Catcher before Dream Bound because it helps explain a lot and eases you into the crazy world that Kate Douglas has created.

Dream Bound is not your average erotica novel and it makes you think outside of everything you know. The sex is amazing and not for the faint of heart but it’s the story of aliens who can come to Earth because of the power from human’s sexual fantasies that will rock your world. This book is science fiction meets erotica and if you go in with an open mind you will be in for a great ride. The sex scenes are some of the best I’ve ever read and the connection between all of the characters will draw you into the crazy plot.

I was a little frustrated that not everything gets resolved at the end but that just means we get another great book with all the crazy characters that we’re introduced to. I am not sure what’s going to happen with all of the relationships of with the Nyrians but I know that it will be full of lots of naughty fantasies and extraterrestrials. Even though there is a lot of sex in Dream Bound the plot is so different and so well written that even if you aren’t a fan of science fiction you will be when you finish.

While the writing is decent, don't expect much in the way of a story or even remotely plausible behavior from the characters. I don't mind suspending disbelief and just going with obvious contrived scenarios in order to justify sex between a bunch of strangers, however, I am don't like erotica that skips over character development and hot sounding sex scenes in favor of repeating the same few threadbare plot points.

The biggest problem with the book is that there are way too many characters and all but two are mostly neglected. There are eight human characters that have varying degrees of personality, plus a bunch of aliens who are little more than animated blow-up dolls even though they are supposed to be sentient. All of the human character's stories started sounding all of the same, so much that by the end the author just started skipping over their sex scenes and meetings with the aliens.

I've read better balanced and plotted erotica but even with all of its problems there was something about it that I liked.

I could not, for the life of me, get into this book. It just had too many things going on at once. All of the characters that were introduced in the book had a story line. I felt that it would go so much smoother if Ms. Douglas just stuck to 2 or even 3.
I never thought I'd say this, but I even found myself skipping through a lot of the sex scenes. And there were A LOT of sex scenes.
Don't get me wrong, I enjoy a hot erotic novel, but there was just too much going on for me to keep any interest. We got a background on EVERY character, and in the end it just got all muddled up for me and I couldn't find myself to care about any of them.
Yes, the sex scenes are hot, but the plot was just lacking for me.
I barely got through to book just to see if it gets better, only to find it ending in a cliffhanger. Doubt I'll be picking up the 2nd novel in this series.

After 20 years of putting together Zianne's rescue with her fellow Nyrians "Mac"Arthur dugan has his sattelight array in place and his "Dream-Team" of brilliant geeks together. He's filled with doubts, plagued by protesters and had to go it alone as the government has labeled him a nut case over space aliens (the Gar) parked behind the moon. As things progress faster than he imagined his "kids" bond into a family fast and make contact right away. They form a rescue plan and gear up amid a suspicious forest fire and the Gar's plan to get started raping earth in days.

I happily suspended my disbelief to buy into a world full of aliens, never fully explained technology, and telepaths. And sex. Lots and lots of sex - anal, oral, lesbian, gay, threesomes, even some light bondage.

Only three stars because they build up towards a big thing, planning and scheming, and the book ends right before it gets started. If I were reading a hard copy it wouldn't have been as much of a shock, but when "Epilogue" popped up on my e-reader I was like, "Noooooo!". My library doesn't have the next book either, drat.

Interesting sci fi concept. However, felt like the book was written around the sex scenes- hell it was the whole plot. But even I like a little story with my porn. Might of enjoyed it more if the sex was at least written written well. But when I found myself skipping to the end of a sex scene...not good!

Likeable characters and extremely hot sexy times. Not to mention Douglas nails it with the sexually and racially diverse characters, again. I'm psyched for the next installment. :)
