Boxing - Training, Skills and Techniques is essential reading for both recreational and competitive boxers, and all those who wish to take up amateur boxing, or participate in a boxing-based programme. It offers practical advice on the many crucial factors that need to be taken into account if the boxer is to maximize his, or her, performance and potential.
Unfortunately, I didn't find this book to be as helpful as I thought it would be.
Went in looking to learn more about the basic fundamental skills of boxing. And while it does cover much, the level of depth was a bit bare, and I really didn't get much out of it. Technique wise.
Though towards the later pages of the book, there is some good information about different exercises so as to help one become physically fit enough to box.
Ultimately, if you're interested in reading an overview of boxing and its various components, from both the perspective of student and trainer, then yes this book is fine. But for something more comprehensive, I'd look elsewhere.
2½ rating overall.
p.s. I'd recommend 'Boxing For Everyone' by Cappy Kotz over this one. It's similar in simplicity but covers the fundamentals much more in depth.
This is an excellent introduction to boxing. The author covers each major aspect of the sport. The content is well organized and cohesive. The book may be a bit hard for a young boxer to follow; but, a parent will find it invaluable.
