Over The Hedge #4

Over the Hedge: Stuffed Animals

Rate this book
The Burb Boys are back for phase four, just in time for a spring movie tie-in! Over the Hedge chronicles the suburban lives of the critters who lived there first. When urban sprawl encroaches on their wild home, mischievous raccoon RJ and his sensitive best-buddy turtle Verne (aided by frenetic squirrel Sammy and a bevy of wacky rodents and marsupials) choose to take this rude incursion . . . with open arms. They critique suburbia's indulgences while exploiting its Dish TV, dishy lawn furniture, and deep-dish goulash of gar-baaage. DreamWorks Animation is bringing the vision of Hedge creators Michael Fry and T Lewis to life in a feature film in Spring 2006, starring the voices of Bruce Willis as RJ and Garry Shandling as Verne. Other star voices in the computer-animated movie include Steve Carrell, Eugene Levy, Nick Nolte, William Shatner, Wanda Sykes, and singer Avril Lavigne.

Honestly, I didn't know that this book/comic strip has been turned into a movie by DreamWorks which I laughed a lot because it's funny and the plot is interesting. As I read, the characters are still same like RJ is your cool friend while Verne is your nerdy friend and they have plans to steal some food from people's houses because why not. It gets deeper and deeper to the realization that we are the reason of them being scavengers at the same time they have been spoil of eating human food to the point they don't eat their natural foods anymore. I like Verne the most for he gives you conscience and he worries over his friends' safety. But when it comes to drawing that I like RJ hehe.

I love reading comic strip collections. This was one I knew better as a movie than from the newspaper, because it's not carried by pretty much any paper I've ever read. But it's still pretty awesome. Deserves wider exposure.

I enjoyed the creators wit when it came to the humor we humans have to create with animals, but as far as gut busting laughs, it didn't happen. Read it once, won't pass it along.
