First of all, how do you even rate a biography? I probably never would have picked up this book if I didn’t already absolutely adore Elton John. But since I do, Me was an easy choice.
I especially loved listening to the audiobook, narrated by Taron Egerton, which made the story feel even more personal. Reading about Elton’s early years, his struggles, and the incredible journey that led to his success was both fascinating and inspiring.
My favorite parts were hearing about the life he built beyond the spotlight—his loving husband, his decision to become a father, and the happiness he found after years of ups and downs. It’s easy to see the superstar, but this memoir reminds you there’s a real person behind the legend.
Thank you, Elton, for sharing your story with us “normal” people. It was honest, funny, heartfelt, and a pleasure to read. ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
What an interesting life, and told frankly in an easy, straightforward way. I enjoyed reading this and appreciated the candour. It doesn’t feel like an autobiography that is trying to sell me a version of a person, it just a messy collection of memories and reflections. It read like a good friend telling you their life story, and what an interesting life! I love Elton John, so was keen to learn more about his life, but even if you don’t, it’s an interesting and insightful read into celebrity culture, addiction, the music industry, the aids crisis, his experience of being a gay man and the evolution of that across the decades and across various relationships, grief, being a parent later in life - lots to take away from this autobiography. Definitely recommend.
A There are many amazing songs that Elton John wrote and sang that filled by life. I never considered myself a fan but he certainly influenced the soundtrack of my youth. I'm always drawn to autobiographies and that this was an exception because it was not read by the author. Elton did read the prologue and the epilogue. The performer who read the book did a very good job with portraying to voices of the lives involved in Elton's life.
I really enjoyed listening to this book. It’s narrated by Elton and Taron Egerton who was the actor who played Elton in rocketman.
Interesting links and relationships to his family and other musicians and other famous people he met along the way. Also I didn’t know about all his connections to Watford football club and how involved he had become, but that was interesting to find out more about too. Rock n roll lots of drugs, drink, adoption and charity work.
This was extremely entertaining and it was cool learning about Elton John's start and journey in the music industry. For as much as I like his music I really didn't know much about him before reading this. Honest and hilarious, I highly recommend the audiobook.
Very good book, talented musician, who had the ups, downs, joys, sadness and challenges even with his great talent and money. But finds love in many ways, with his spouse, children and passions. He is Elton John, what gifts he has shared.
Absolutely loved this book, it had everything that you would imagine from Elton and so much more. I’ll be keeping this book so that I can read it again at some point. This gets my highest rating, please read it !!!
Elton John has certainly had an interesting life. Taron Edgerton overacts on the narration, but overall, a very interesting and fun listening experience.
