Most of my stories are set in small villages filled with quirky characters. These are partly inspired by the places I’ve lived in over the years, although the characters are straight out of my imagination! I currently live in Wales, close to a famous library and two ruined castles. My husband thinks we moved here by accident.
My first published novel was Smoke Gets in Your Eyes, which was a finalist in Poolbeg’s Write a Bestseller competition. As well as nine novels, I’ve written short stories for women’s magazines such as Take a Break and My Weekly. Before becoming a full-time writer, I worked as an administrative officer for the police.
When I’m not writing, I enjoy visiting big old houses, which I use as inspiration for the houses in my novels, and reading other people’s books when I ought to be writing my own…
Why do Fools Fall in Love? is the second book written by Louise Marley.
Shelby is a WPC in the Tactical Firearms Team (TFT) for the Police. A bad experience one Halloween’s evening and suddenly she is finding herself looking for work! Shelby contacts her ex boss who she worked with when in CID, John Ivar who now runs a Security Agency supplying guards for factory premises, Bouncers for nightclubs and private parties, Drivers and Minder’s. None of this really appealed to her, but desperate time calls for desperate measures so she take the job of being a ‘Minder’ for Movie Star and Heart throb Luke McFadden whilst he is on a three-week film location in the beautiful historical city of Bath.
Shelby is a black belt in Judo and Karate, trained to protect people from assassins, kidnappers and therefore can handle a few middle-aged housewives, How hard can it really be? How much trouble can one Actor really get into?
This is the first book I have read of Louise Marley’s and therefore has no pre conceptions of what to expect. It’s a really fun and easy read. Shelby is a very mixed up character, clearly desperate to be loved and therefore often attracted to the wrong men very quickly! There are many funny elements throughout the book and Shelby is often referred to ‘Calamity Jane’ even though she is always trying to do the right thing at the time. ‘She’s supposed to be keeping him out of trouble!’
Great connections with the other leading characters of the book, as the story develops little twists and turns make you understand each person a little bit more and why they act the way they do. It is not until the end do you really make up your mind as to who is a good person and who isn’t!!
Thank you so much Louise for sending me a copy of this to review. I really enjoyed this book and loved your writing style and will certainly be looking out for your other books.

Couldn't get past the start with this too-stupid-to-live cop heroine who despite a huge cock-up with a gun involving a civilian expects she'll just get a tap on the knuckles and be allowed to move ranks in the police force. Sorry, I couldn't get past that!
When Shelby makes a serious mistake she is kicked out of the tactical firearms and reluctantly ends up taking a role in security got a film company. Her job is to be a body guard for a famous actor. This book is well written really funny and highly entertaining.
As much as I like to think I'm a tough cookie, I do love a good old romance, slushy, fairy tale book. That is exactly what Why do fools fall in love? is. If I'm being truly honest too, it's FAIRYTALE in capitals, it's bordering Disney.
I found it a bit difficult in places to actually believe this book, some parts are very far-fetched others needing a kick up the arse. However, its overall a good book. It has a unique plot with surprise and shock elements, and loads of little twists and turns. It packs a lot into it. It's well written and has you wanting to know the outcome. The characters are all well documented from the beginning so you get to relate to each one individually. The heroine Shelby grated on me slightly, she seemed like a scatter brain and I wanted to reach into the pages and shake her at times.
As I've stated earlier its a good book, and if you like FAIRYTALE romance then you're sure as hell will love this.
Shelby’s character is a little complex. Constantly striving to be professional and detached, she often finds herself losing her composure and, as the story goes on, you see Shelby’s desire to be loved. Relationships between the actors and crew are delightfully tangled and their history gives real depth to the plot, as does the development of some of these characters. The writing flows easily and carries you along for a fun ride.
Although many readers may find parts of the storyline predictable, there are some genuine surprises and twists that make the book a compelling read. Shelby and Luke’s relationship is also a nice element; however, a little more detail would have enhanced it somewhat. Great entertainment and definitely worth a read.

I think maybe this just isn't the book for me, I found that I was constantly trying to understand how someone who has been part of the fire arms police force could be so bimbo ish. The story is good one with Shelby being a body guard to Luke while on a film set, but i just couldn't picture a copper like that. So I tried looking at it a different way and half way through i got it...forget she was this police officer and look at her as a girl who likes a challenge and one that can handle herself and its better. Lots of humour which will have you smiling if not giggling and suspense added makes for a story which will keep you entertained.
Not my type of book but i would still give it a 3/5
*spoiler alert* I liked this book right up until she said 'I love you' after being with the guy for 3 days. Wtf?! However, it was better than the average romance novel and she is genuinely quite likable. And if the story has a slightly (ok huge) fairy tale element, well it's a romance right? haha suspend your disbelief!!
I am not sure about this book. Spotted several spelling mistakes and the some of the sentences had a word or two missing. It was a book that passed the time away but not one that I was excited to read. I have read another book by Louise Marley and that was ok. The book lacked something for me and I just cannot put my finger on it.
I found this book a little hard to get into at first but when i did couldn't put it down hoping shelby picked the right guy! also, the identity of the stalker shocked me, not who i was expecting it to be!! please dont give up if u dont get into it straightaway, persistance definately pays off!!
