Greg and Julie Alexander thought divorce was the only way out of their lifeless, loveless marriage. Quite unexpectedly, a faithful priest guided them back to the truths of the church, and as they began to incorporate these truths into their lives, they were able to restore the love they once had for each other. Marriage 911 chronicles their journey back from the brink of divorce to marital happiness built on a strong Catholic faith.
Told from both spouses' perspectives, their very personal story shares: Three key questions every married couple should answer Practical, real-life tips for getting a marriage back on track Hope for all married couples on the brink
Marriage 911: How God Saved Our Marriage (and can save yours, too!) by Greg and Julie Alexander is a two fold book. It is the realistic story of a relationship that appeared doomed but by the grace of God was not only salvaged but redeemed as well as a book that many married couples could use to improve their marriage even if it's not in need of emergency help but maybe only some routine maintenance. The Alexanders take turns telling the story of their broken relationship and each chapter ends with questions for couples to ask themselves to improve their own marriage.
The Alexanders' life changed when they made an appointment with their new parish priest. Upon hearing that they wanted a divorce, he challenged them with three questions: What is God's plan for marriage? What does our Church teach? and What do St. Paul and the Holy Fathers say about marriage? Not only did this lead to the saving of their own marriage but also a life long commitment to helping others through the establishment of The Alexander House - an apostolate dedicated to marriage and family life. The Alexander House offers marriage coaching, workshops and other ways to support a truly Christ-centered marriage.
I read this book with the intent of only learning the story of the Alexanders but came away with the knowledge of ways that any marriage can be improved even if not in dire straits. I see in my own twenty-four years of marriage some of the same mistakes the Alexanders made but thankfully not the one that nearly broke their union. I think this book should be a must read for any couple that comes in for counseling and would also provide a great springboard for married fellowship discussion.

written from a Catholic perspective. I'm not Catholic, so there were some things I disagreed with taken just from the Catholic church. However there were some good points made. I believe this book is meant for both people in a marriage in order for these principles to work.
Couldn't put this one down! I read this in two sitting, and was so inspired by the honesty and humility of the authors. Their story helped me understand that anything can be overcome by faith and hard work. This book will benefit everyone - those who are considering marriage, those in good marriages, and those in troubled marriages who are searching for understanding.
Buy bunches of copies and give them to friends! Be a conduit of hope for them.
I really appreciated this book. Greg and Julie Alexander discovered on the same day that they were each having an affair. This started a long path of disillusionment, trust, learning God's plan for marriage, and trying to work on their marriage. This book is brutally honest. Much like Rome Sweet Home, the husband and wife take turns sharing from his or her own perspective. I find it fascinating to read about the same events which were interpreted so differently by each person. This book is not a 'how to' book per se. It is more of a challenge to go and learn what the church really teaches about marriage and implement it in your own marriage. Each chapter ends with reflection questions to give you something to think about.
I loved it! This is the story of a couple who were striving for all the wrong things in their lives, and ended up almost throwing in the towel on their marriage. They didn't give up though, and this story chronicles how they began to research what exactly was God's plan for marriage ... and where that led them ... and how they came to give their lives over to marriage ministry. Beautiful, inspiring story. Quick read. Lots of seeds planted in how to nurture your own marriage, too.
