"Laid out in neat, horizontal rows, the illustrations and captions promise hours of pleasure to lovers of pictorial detail and facts about 'things.'" -- School Library Journal
This picture book covers a vast range of topics that could be referred to again and again for the use in the social studies classroom. Hundreds of questions about the development of the world are answered in this book. From the "Big Bang" to the origins of life to dinosaurs to steam locomotives are coved in this book. This book uses pictures and timelines to describe topics such as clothing, medicine, weapons, bridges, and transportation. I would recommend this book when introducing a topic to students who may not have the schema available to understand the origins of a topic. Also, there is a pretty good biographical index in the back of the book.
This book is a really cool introduction to just about anything you want to learn. It’s sad that it’s getting so dated (book published in 1995) and it could use some updating.
