The Incomplete Circle: Eric Atkinson, Art and Education

Rate this book
The volume takes an unusual form. Instead of essays, it is a spirited exchange of letters between Ricky Atkinson and David Lewis, and an array of English, Canadian and American artists and teacher friends which offers a fascinating insight into the creative processes at the heart of art education over the past forty years. It is generously illustrated with reproductions of work by Ricky Atkinson (and other comparative material), and is an indispensable source book for all those concerned with the ferment in art education on both sides of the Atlantic.Published in Association with The Volunteer Committee of the London Regional Art and Historical Museums, Canada.

You can actually read this book cover to cover. The writing style is "familiar", with hints on how to remember things. For example, when talking about Robert Frost, they say, "He was a creep to his wife and kid." Not exactly something you would expect in crib notes, but a lot of fun. Even reading about things I already know and remember, I'm learning a lot. Even with the weight of it, I'm taking it in my (big) purse to have it on the train ride.
