Such a good read!! So many twists and turns that kept me guessing, and the emotional rollercoaster this put me through. Wow! I felt so sad and angry about what happened to Alec and Piper. I loved Redwood’s Girl Gang. But Oliver made me so mad!! I can’t wait to find out what happens next!!

Alec is Maddie's brothers best friend so it's forbidden but then the brother does something and yh he seems to be ok with there relationship. I found it a complex book a bit all over the place It is trigger heavy which didn't put me off the book but felt like there relationship wasnt the center of the book but who was blackmailing them was

DNFed at 37% when these highschool kids suddenly out of nowhere start talking to a gang about bringing the whole town down. I just...it came all the way out of left field and was like a blow-up doll in the middle of an opera, completely out of character for the setting.

This book had me in a chokehold! I honestly struggled to put it down.
It is the first book I read of the series, so I didn't totally understand everything going on in this twisted town, but it didn't put me off storming through the whole story.

The twists and turns in this book gave me whiplash and the twist at the end?!?! What are you doing to us! 😭

At first I picked up this story as I was told it was a hockey romance and I'm on a bit of a hockey kick at the moment 😏 The MMC, Alec, is a high school Hockey star however it's not very prominent in the story which is a shame but I'm not too mad. The drama in this book kept me going 😅

Talking of Alec, I just wanna wrap him in a blanket and give him the tightest hug... That boy went through hell and back, and I'm really happy with how it was written as well as the representation! I think this is the first book actually touching on these topics I'd read and it was so well done 👏👏

10/10 would read again, but in the mean time.... I'm off to read the rest of this series!! 🏃‍♀️✨️

It was my first read by Emilia Rose, and I'm definitely adding Posion to my TBR now. Emilia had me bawling my eyes out in the first 30% of the book and cursing at everyone by the end. The emotions this book brought out in me was a wild ride for sure!

As always, I suggest checking your triggers warnings before reading because her and foremost your mental health matters.

Maddie and Alec ooh the brothers best friend trope, I'm such a sucker for it. Maybe it's because I'm a little sister, and this trope was indeed my life at one point. But Maddie & Alec were destined for each other he waited, and he pined and, in the end, claimed her as his. His touch her and ☠️ vibes are wonderful throughout the book, but it's Maddies caring empathetic personality that really wins the read.

SA is a touchy subject still in today's society, but male SA is even more unspoken and primarily for the reasons Emilia shows us in this book. Yes, there is on page SA, but it is not explicit and very glanced over (again, check your triggers), but what's more important is there is on page healing from SA as well. Maddie is strength when Alec needs it most, and she definitely takes the defender role seriously!

HEED THE WARNINGS!

Read the warnings, this author puts them up for a reason, and you should not take them lightly. As with any of her books,
THIS IS CAN BE READ AS A STAND ALONE, BUT I DONT RECOMMEND BECAUSE THIS ENDS WITH a CLIFFHANGER

I did not see anything coming. And that never happens, ever.
But it kept happening and the storyline got so much uglier than a simple story curve with a happy ending, no no no, this was stuff that shocked and repulsed you, and it Continues through to the ending, which doesn’t have an HEA.

I should have known.
Now I’m the person that wants a good page turning, shocking, HEA ending book,
And all this had was the first half.
I’m disappointed that I spent 8 bucks on this but I can’t seem to stop reading her books, so that’s my fault. But if you don’t want to end up like me,

Than Heed the warnings.
This in valves
Sex trafficking
Rape,
Then some more rape
Murder,
Blood
Violence
Conspiracy of murder
Fighting.
Death
And I’m sure there’s more

If you want a good page turner with COMPLETELY unseeable turns, gangs,
corrupt cops, teachers, parents and students. With a cliffhanger and an underestimated amount of drama, then please, read.

(It was what it was supposed to be, I just didn’t see it coming.
And that’s why I warn,)

Tropes: ▪ Brother's Best Friend ▪ Enemies to Lovers (ish?) ▪ Hockey ▪ Obsessed MMC ▪ Dark ▪▪ Check Trigger Warnings ▪

So this review is a struggle for me. I've always loved every book of Emilia's but I really struggled with this one. I found it very difficult to read, not because of some of the scenes but because I found it very tiresome.

I have always said I wouldn't put any reviews up on Instagram that are under 3 stars but as I received this as an ARC I felt it would be dishonest to not do a review. I want everyone to know that I do genuinely like the ARC's I receive and review, I only ARC review for authors that I like; it's just unfortunately on this occasion this book wasn't for me.

If you decide to give this book a go please check the trigger warnings as it does have some difficult scenes.

The story had something going for it in the first half, but by the second half there was so much happening that changed the whole tone of the book. It started off feeling like some kind of enemies-to-lovers with an actual enemy stalker story, and then suddenly involved so many tropes that it got to be too much. There's the mob, the school gang, students sleeping with their teachers, or each other's parents left and right. Then the main characters, both victims of SA, immediately blame another victim for things she was forced to do and have very awful and hateful feelings and don't offer help knowing what it's like being a victim. By the end the main characters had become unlikeable.

*I received this book as an ARC, however, the opinions are my own*

I have not read the other four books in the series, so I did not understand a lot of the dynamics of this terrible town they all live in. I wish that I had read at least the blurbs of those books that way I would have understood who, what and why.

With that being said-I really did like this book and am waiting to see what is going to happen next- which is truly something rare for me. Usually, I read a book in this trope and move on to the next book on my TBR. However, this book really grabbed me from the beginning. There’s a huge moment that happens in the beginning where you think, “okay, wow, we’re really doing this” and I find a lot of times author’s will have a jaw dropping moment and it gets resolved and never really mentioned again. This is not one of those times. This becomes a theme throughout the book, gets expanded upon, and ultimately shapes the two mains- Alec and Maddie.

I think where I was a bit let down was in the second half of the book, since I didn’t understand the dynamics of the group I was left out and kept constantly asking, “where are their parents???” It’s a lot to wrap your head around a group of 18ish year olds getting up to murder, covering up murder, framing each other for murder, etc. Also, I would not really consider this a true standalone as it ends in a cliffhanger and you do need a bit of understanding of the various previous couples and town dynamics.

Plus, the whole hockey theme was barely a theme throughout. Yes, Alec and Oliver were both on the team, but he went to do a visit with an NHL team but then poof, nothing.

*Arc Review*

This book follows Alec and Maddie’s story, which is intertwined with the other 4 Bad Boys of Redwood Academy books, so make sure you read those first!

I have been so eager for Alec & Maddie’s story since I finished Poison and got a small glimpse into their drama! Alec is Maddie’s brother’s best friend, but there is so much more behind their relationship. They have both had traumatic pasts and have to face so much during their relationship. I enjoyed getting to see their story and understanding why they were the way they were in the other books.

Alec is the star hockey player along with Maddie’s brother, Oliver. Maddie is the nerdy, anime, video game loving red head who has always had a crush on her brother’s best friend. One night at a party she and Alec finally give into their desires and from there they go through many trials and tribulations together and with other members of the Redwood Academy from previous books; Jace & Allie, Imari & the Poison gang, Vera & Blaise, Nicole, and Sakura and Callan are all very intwined in this story as well. I am very curious to get Nicole’s story and Oliver’s story now!

Do not go into this book thinking that it will be sunshine and rainbows, it is not. It is dark, twisted and right up my own personal alley for dark romance. A lot happens in a short amount of time and it is not a guaranteed HEA as the series as a whole is not finished, and the books always seem to end on some kind of cliffhanger.

This is my first read by this author and while I really wanted to like it, it just wasn't my cup of tea. Given this is the first book I've read by this author I won't judge just based on this book, I still would like to read her other work because I'm sure there's some 4-5 star reads by her.

I really did get into the first half because the spice was there from the start and then there was just some twists I didn't expect there to be from a going for the your brothers best friend trope kind of book. It had me there for a while but then the second half just didn't do it for me. It had too much going on that it was just too much for me. A lot of time I just kept thinking that it was way too much for a bunch of 18 year olds. It was also the first I read of the Redwood Academy books so with it mentioning characters from the others in the series, I didn't know exactly who everyone was and their stories.

I did like the relationship between Maddie and Alec because they wanted to stick with each other through everything but everything else was just really out there.

Again, while it wasn't for me I do still plan to read other books by this author. Just because it wasn't for me doesn't mean it won't be a great read for someone else. 🙂

My Brother’s Best Friend by Emilia Rose
Bad Boys of Redwood Academy

I’ll be honest, I jumped at this ARC opportunity when I saw it was Emilia Rose. I haven’t read anything by her before and I was NOT disappointed. I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t what I got and I am 1 million percent here for it. Has all the best tropes, if you like dark romance. 🖤 This was a quick read, I read it in a few hours but it hit the spot.

Sweet sweet filthy mouth Alec, I would burn the world down for you too. You deserve everything you could ever want. The way he looks at Maddie, swoon. Such an amazing person even surrounded by terrible people. I’m so glad he and Maddie found there way to another.. AND MADDIE, giiiiiiiirlfriend grew up and grew up fast. My mouth dropped multiple times while reading this. Maddie, this timid girl making her way to the top.

This group of “friends” are wreaking havoc on Redwood and I can’t wait to read about it. Some crooked stuff is going down and people are finally standing up. The amount of twists and turns in this 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻

Holy. Fucking. Shit. That is all I have to say right now. Are you for real? Are you kidding me? What. The. Fuck. Was. That. Emilia! Are you joking? WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN IN MY LIFE? I cannot fathom words to describe how I feel right about now after finishing this book. I am flabbergasted, gobsmacked, questioning my life choices. I did NOT expect that. AT. ALL. This was my first ever Emilia Rose book, and it being my first ever ARC read, before I got accepted into others; but finished those first. But this, right here, was absolutely fucking phenomenal. I could go Italian for how many chef’s kisses I am making with my hands. I know of the brother’s best friend trope, like we all do, but this was just something else. I am 100% going to be backtracking through the previous Redwood Bad Boys series after this. From the beginning, the sheer sexiness and smuttiness was incredible. The story, the forbiddances of it, the mystery, was undeniably fantastic. Alec is a fucking dreamboat, and I loved his alternating pov’s. He is so fucking adorable, and he was everything. Maddie, what. a. bad. ass. bitch. She is so fucking fire, and her energy was also everything. I just can’t get over what happened, especially that ending like are you for real. I was abso-fucking-lutely flung, kicked, pushed, stabbed, stepped on, and I didn’t even hate it. The bombshells, oh my god. I can’t. The heat, I swear I could have melted into a puddle on the floor. I died, dead and did not want to be resuscitated, I giggled (and cackled) like a little bitch on crack like I’m losing it, I kicked my feet like a retard, LOTS of smirking side eyes, I cried my heart out, my heart ached and broke, I got wildly swooned, SHIT GOT REAL AND HIT THE FUCKING FAN, and I could not believe what I was reading like I was hallucinating. I went absolutely feral for this book, and I cannot wait to read the next, as well as the others in the series after this. THANK YOU SOOO MUCH to Emilia, and I CANNOT wait to read the next one! <3

Alec Wolfe is that guy, the brothers best friend, athlete star, bad boy, charismatic, women want him, guys want the benefits of being his friend. What does Alec want? Simple his best friend Oliver's twin sister Maddie.
Maddie is a little nerdy, smart, not necessarily introverted but definitely not the life of the party either. She's been burned by one of her brothers friends already she's not looking for another round but she's always had a crush on Alec.
What's great about this story is it's so much more then it seems yes you get your brothers best friend, but there's also a mystery happening, along with dangerous elements, and suspense. And it it's not just one victim it's both main characters.
There is a lot of growth that happens in the story as Alec and Maddie fight to discover if they have what it takes to see this through to the other side of the turmoil.
I have voluntarily left this review.

This was my first book by Emilia Rose and she did not disappoint at all!

I was immediately drawn to the cover (can't go wrong with an attractive man right?). Then I read the blurb and was ready to dive headfirst into Redwood Academy! As always, check the trigger warnings on this one, it's pretty dark and can be triggering to readers. It was very packed with everything you can think of in a dark romance, and could be a bit busy at times. It had my favorite troupes (forbidden love & brother's best friend). It was interesting to see the very difficult relationship between Alec and Maddie. Very twisted and complicated from the start, but made for a thrilling read! Very fast paced and easy to binge read. I could not put my Kindle down to save my life with this book. It was INTENSE in a good way! I will DEFINITELY be reading the rest of the series!

I'm a huge fan of the Bad Boys of Redwood Academy Series. Stepbrother is one of my BAE, and Jace Harbor is one of my most beloved book boyfriends. That said, I've been awaiting Maddie and Alec's story since Poison. My Brother's Best Friend definitely doesn't disappoint.
Emilia Rose's world is so detailed, and the characters' interactions with one another are so intricate that you must appreciate the complexity of the storytelling. I love how she does the cameos in each book that synchronize the timelines and show you how everything is falling together. Emilia is a freaking baws! I might have a Gigantor girl crush.
I urge you to read this book, but start at the beginning and go through the stories as they reveal more and more in each one. You will also discover some Easter eggs you wouldn't have known by picking up book one rather than starting in the middle.

The story explores the complicated relationship between Maddie and Alec Wolfe, her brother's mysterious best friend. Their love is forbidden, and they must overcome many challenges, including dark secrets and societal pressures. The book is a thrilling read, blending suspense, passion, and emotional depth with numerous plot twists that keep the reader hooked. The most remarkable aspect is the realistic portrayal of growth and resilience through adversity, making the characters' journey relatable and inspiring. This addition to the Bad Boys of Redwood Academy series is a testament to the complexities of love and loyalty, making it an unforgettable read.

Out of all of them it wasn’t my favorite. Some of the characters straight up had me upset. And then there was a scene that absolutely threw me! Had me thinking back to Carter and Jamal in book one and questioning everything. Had me slightly confused and worried that Jamal is part of a certain shady ring. Like maybe I missed something or forgot something??? Thrown for a loop I say. I’m excited for Nicole’s book. I want her to be free so bad.
PS if anyone knows what I’m talking about please let me in the loop of all the things I possibly forgot pertaining to Jamal. I was so lost.

Alec and Oliver are best friends and go to Redwood Academy together. They are both on the ice-hockey team.
Maddie is a nerd and loves video games & anime. Her brother is Oliver and is very protective of her due to her ex-boyfriend.
Alec has feelings for Maddie but keeps them quiet due to Oliver.
An excellent quick read. So many twists and turns and secrets uncovered. Jaw-dropping moments. Spicy, billionaire romance. This book can be read on its own but I can’t wait to read the other books in the series.

Dark, forbidden(brother’s best friend) and extra spicy!
Maddie wants nothing to do with the her brother’s best friends, the cocky Hockey star Alec, until one night when everything changes.
Alec and Maddie definitely have a complicated relationship and they work through some serious sh$t together but, Alec is totally obsessed with her.

The story takes place in Redwood and there are some seriously sketchy things going down with even more corrupt people! Of you want to meet any other the other characters from Redwood Academy you should definitely read some of the other books in the Redwood Academy series!

💥Quick Notes💥
✨Standalone within The Redwood world
✨Forbidden
✨Brother’s best friend (in case you didn’t notice 😜)
✨Definitely recommend reading some of the other books if you’d like more context
✨Spicy AF 🥵

I've read the previous books and couldn't wait to read about Maddie & Alec. I like that the events in this book happen kinda after the other books so the timeline it not completely overlapping so we get more details.

The book was more about the blackmail than the actual relationship and involved a lot of twist and turn during the book.

I can't pinpoint it but something about Maddie character was just annoying at times. I tried to keep in mind that they are teenagers so that's to be expected. Overall this wasn't my fave book in the series but was still good.

This book was interesting and it shows a situation I haven’t read in many books and that is when a female rapes a man and I felt it was represented very well in this book how the men feel and the reasons it’s not reported. This book has a lot of twists and turns it was very interesting will I continue reading this series I may not but that is simply because this book isn’t for me I felt like there were like five different storylines going on at the same time but I did enjoy this book but not enough to continue I rated it 3⭐️ and 2🌶️

*Make sure you read the trigger warnings*

This was a fast paced book with many different characters being mentioned and brought up, it is a standalone, but I recommend reading the other standalones in the Redwood Academy Series. It is a dual POV story.
I wish there were more details on Maddie and Spencer's relationship so I could really feel for her, but it was hard to connect to the character because of that lack of background story.

This book had me in a chokehold from page 1. This book gave me so many feelings! Make sure you read the trigger warnings first! your mental health matters! The amount of plot twists had me on edge the entire time I read it! I did absolutely love this book and seeing one of the darker topics coming from a male POV which I had never read before, so that was amazing! Even though this book is apart of a series i feel you can read it from cover to cover as a standalone.

I was so excited to jump back into the Bad Boys of Redwood Academy series! This book is filled with twists that had my head spinning. If you’ve read any of the other books in this series you won’t be surprised by how messed up this town and the characters are. I couldn’t put this book down because I needed to know if things were going to work out for Maddie and Alec.

I loved Maddie and her unwavering support for those she cared about. She was willing to risk herself to help those around her. I really liked Alec. My heart broke for him a few times throughout this book. I definitely want more of them!

This was a good book but I definitely need the next book!

My Brothers Best Friend is book 5 of The Bad Boys of Redwood Academy.

I have loved most books by this author but this has been a struggle to read as I have not enjoyed this as much as her other books. Especially in this series.

There are trigger warnings for this book so I warn to read them before reading this book as some thing may distress readers. I am looking forward to still reading books from this author in the future.

I geeked out over another set of POVs in the series. I find it so amazing that Emilia can weave all of these characters' different lives into one massive plot, and it truly shows what an incredible author she is. I think what I appreciate most about this book is that the mmc is a victim of rape, because that's a topic that's not addressed as often as it should be.
I can't wait for more in this series, because Redwood hasn't burned yet, and we know it needs to happen.

I just love Emilia's works, and this book was no different. Alec and Maddie pulled me in from the start and didn't let go until I finished. Their road to happily ever after was filled with heartache and betrayal. Emilia writes characters that you can relate too, and makes you invested into their stories. I highly recommend any of her books.

I received an advance review copy from the author, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Alec was actually my favourite character ❤️ Interesting & twisty plot, even at the end - it has you thinking WTF 🤯😳😵‍💫
Addictive as always, great Book5 📚
Maddie actually became annoying by the end, but at least no longer a doormat, nice that she became strong for herself, Alec, her friends & some classmates 👍

(possible spoilers ahead) This book in the series was dark. You don't usually read about males being raped and how they feel....especially the MMC. When it was revealed who the rapist was I WAS SHOCKED

This series continues to be completely OTT. Some plotlines are so out there, that I end up laughing a lot. Saying that- I have already pre-ordered the next book. I need to know what's going to happen.
