Off the coast of Trinidad lies an abandoned leper colony, Chacachacare. Ely returns after a thirty-year absence, believing his young lover, a patient on the island, died. But, all records of her life and death are missing. Is she dead as he believes, or is she alive? Ely seeks clues in the crumbling buildings left by the last of the lepers. A medieval Dominican Conversi stop at nothing to prevent him from discovering the truth.
When I finished this novel after nonstop reading, I wished I could be cruising with my boat at Trinidad's del Monos Bay, calling and exploring the now empty leper island under the guidance of this book and try to reveal new mysteries.
