I thought that by the time he got out, I would be far away from Sydney, safe from his torment.
I THOUGHT WRONG!
He’s back, and so are the games. Games meant to ignite fear, to keep me looking over my shoulder, never quite knowing when he might strike. Games meant to prevent me feeling safe, worried for mine, and my closest friends’ safety.
Protection from him comes from the unlikeliest sources. My university professors discover why I have become a traumatised wreck and take it upon themselves to join forces with two others – men who seem to have an intricate understanding of criminal life – to keep me safe.
We form a friendship that leads to much, much more. But what happens when our circumstances become more entangled than we could have anticipated? When enemies come slithering out of the grass to attack from all sides?
My name is Aria Winslow, and this is my story. He might have tried to poison me as a teenager, but with my protectors by my side, we will be doing everything it takes to ensure his fangs don’t get a chance to strike again.
Snakes & Lovers is a Why Choose contemporary romance with some dark aspects that may be unsettling for readers. Trigger warnings can be found in the foreword. This is part one of a duet.
Chapter 1 was enough for me to figure out the FMC. She fucks a stranger after knowing him for 1 second, who turns out to be a harem member. She's not my favourite (understatement of the year). The men are mediocre. The story sucks. So 1 star.
Loved the first chapter but that was about it. The h was TSTL and the harem was very instalove. Which doesn’t work for me. I needed more! There was no angst and they all just wanted to protect her and love her. But I didn’t understand why. She wasn’t all that great. The harem was basic and none of the men had any personality whatsoever.
Got this book as an Arc in exchange for an honest review;)
The book starts off with Aria working at a bar and thinking how much of a pigs the men there are , always trying to flirt with her . Then a cute stranger says like 2 sentences and then they go and sleep together in the cleaning closet. Here her thinking flopped a little. He could have made more effort. She shouldn’t have pretended she doesn’t like flirting. It just had to be the right guy. Yolo mentality but meh.
Then we are introduced to her two sexy teachers that she’s into and they are into her. One of them turns out to be her hook up( or does he?) She starts receiving messages from an unknown numbers, gets stressed . Her teachers notice and decide to get involved.
Basically Things seem to happen too fast. A bunch of guys wanna protect her. (Why?) 1. Teachers can be concerned, it’s also fine since they are similar ages to be attracted - a little extensive that they would Follow her and look through the trash to see what she threw away . 2. The teacher’s twin brother( her hookup) - don’t get why would he be concerned about his one night stand. *** Following this let’s step back a second( that’s 30%in the book) . Mentioned twin talks to himself about how strong and passionate his ONE night stand is. Bro? How do you know , you literally had a quickie in a bar once. 3. An earlier POV from Reid would have helped to deepen their connection and make more sense why he wants to defend her so much Maybe if they had a few more encounters, maybe more background. Something to make them as characters and me as a reader more connected. I feel like some additional details would have helped me see why this Aria is so special so that all of a sudden two teachers, one twin gangster and his whole crew wanna protect her from her step cousin.
4. Their relationships progressed a tad too fast for them to be so involved with her and want to protect her not knowing anything about her. And for me : I couldn’t relate to their decisions, I wouldn’t go so out of my way for someone I know nothing about and I’m just physically attracted to.
Not much was happening actually. Aria was being escorted by someone somewhere. All the guys were into her for some reason. Reid’s work was briefly mentioned, no gang meetings, crime, m*red ring or anything happened. Like mafia was intended to be included but just not mentioned much ( scraped the surface). Zeke was also non existent until literally the last 2 pages.
The spicy scenes were nice but cut short . I liked the characters but story needed a little more action so 3.5 ⭐️. ** I loved the “ohmigod” spelling. It’s cute 😃

I received an ARC copy of this book and I am voluntarily leaving a review.
Addicted, I was addicted to this book, I did not want to put it down! This is a dark romance why choose. It’s got forbidden teacher/student, gangs, protective alpha males, cinnamon role but touch my girl and you die vibes.
Ari is our FMC and she has a very traumatic past, buts she’s strong and caring. Her growth over the book is great! Honestly her character was written extremely well, I felt as though I knew exactly what she was going through.
There are 4 MMC, Reid, Austin, Leo and Raff and honestly I can’t pick which I like more (I guess that’s why it’s a why choose book😂). All the guys are fierce when it comes to protecting Ari from her past that’s come back to haunt her.
The spice in this was fantastic and the plot had me hooked, it’s the best of both worlds!
This is a very dark book so please do check the trigger warnings before reading. But I definitely recommend this book and I honestly can’t wait for book 2!!!!
This book has been sitting on my Kindle for a few weeks. I don't know what caused me to prioritize it over several other books waiting to be read, but wow. I could kick myself that I haven't read this sooner. This book has pretty much ALL the elements I look for in a read.
✔ An fmc (Aria) who is mature and relatable and someone you instantly like and root for. ✔ A plot driven book that perfectly walks the line of tripping story, complex characters, and heat! 🔥🔥🔥 ✔ A dark and traumatic past the fmc is trying to heal from, but a stalker who has found her again. ✔ Stalker ✔ Deliciously swoon worthy men, ranging from growly and possessive, to BIG, funny, sweet teddy bear types. ✔ Guys who are instantly enamored and ALL IN on being there for the fmc. ✔ Sexy Professors (a bit of delicious age gap) ✔ Identical Twins ✔ Smart men. Dangerous men (Yes please! I'll take both!) ✔ Best friends who are true friends and "sisters" to Aria. Great side characters.
Seriously, checks all the boxes. I'm going to be almost stalker like myself as I continue to check for updates on the release of book two. Apollo good.
I quite enjoyed reading this book. I think Aria, the fmc was written quite well, as was her trauma that we explore. I don't think it is an easy task writing a character with trauma like Aria's because everyone reacts to trauma in such different ways, but I think she was portrayed in a really deep, realistic way. I loved the relationship she had between her friends and how not all of it was dark and dreary due to their situation, especially when Aria had too many drinks and went on a little shopping spree 😉 The only part I was a little iffy about was some of the men in her reverse harem. I'm not super into instalove, which did ruin it a little for me because it's not my cup of tea. Though it did get a bit better watching as their relationships continued to develop. I look forward to the next book and seeing where it all goes after ending on that cliff-hanger.
I absolutely loved and adored the first book of this duet. Once again K L Coburn has knocked it out of the ballpark. Love this and can't wait to see what happens in the next book!!!
Spice 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️ , loved the characters and story. Based in Sydney/west Sydney so I thought that was cool. I just think some scenes were cut abit short. But other than that it was a good read!
This was such a great read. I adore the characters and the story was great. Kept me hooked from the first page. And this cliff hanger! Ahh. I need the next book.
This duet is now one of my all time FAVORITE books. Despite it being on kindle unlimited I ended up purchasing the digital copy for both once I finished because I do plan on reading it again in the future and like having it in my library.
The plot is super interesting. I LOVE a good professor romance and this one was beautifully done. I wish there had been a little more drama with the female professor that had a crush on Leo but we can't have it all. The mmcs are yummy, possessive, protective, understanding, patient, and just EVERYTHING.
The fmc is strong considering everything she has been through. But her trauma is also believable with her reactions to certain things. I love that she is actually willing to let the mmcs look out for her and protect her from the dangers in her life instead of ignoring not only the dangers, but the men as well. She needs them, and she is okay with that. We love a reasonable fmc.
When Aria was younger she was sent to live with her Aunt and cousin, Zeke. While living their Zeke took pleasure in torturing Aria physically and mentally. When Zeke ended up in jail for getting involved with a gang, it was a godsend. He is meant to have a few years left. Giving Aria enough time to finish her degree and move away from Sydney. Unfortunately, somehow Zeke manages to get out early. Luckily, Aria has caught the attention of two of her professors, and a man she met in a bar a few weeks before school started up again. Reid, the bad boy from the bar who happens to be the twin to Austin Elliot Aria's new English professor, Leo Aria's psychology professor, and Raff the man tasked with keeping an eye on Aria once the other men find out about her stalker. Aria quickly becomes close with the four men who are determined to protect her, but her stalker is still out there and eventually he will be finished with just messing with her mentally and he will end up taking it further. Not to mention that being involved with these men may add to the danger in Aria's life.
I wasn't too sure if I wanted to dive into a dark series at the moment I started this book, but it was on the top of my list of books I wanted to read, so I jumped in anyway. I'm SO glad I did.
Aria went through SO much for years at the hands of her step-cousin, Zeke. After her mother died, her step-aunt was the only family she had left, and she had nowhere else to go. She couldn't tell anyone what depravity she was going through without risking her best friend (who was threatened if she told anyone). Her escape? He was sent to jail (gaol as spelled in the book) over drug charges, so she went to university and hoped to be far, far away by the time he got out.
She starts receiving notes and "gifts" from him, or someone partnering with him, and two of her professors, a twin brother of one of the professors, and his friend all step up (alongside her best friends) to help protect her and be there for her.
Most of the book is her getting to know them, a relationship progressing between them all, having sneak peeks of her past, and the "surprises" Zeke leaves her.
It's a bit on the darker side as far as romance novels go, but definitely not the darkest. If you're feeling like something with some drama, gangs, stalkers, etc, but not feeling like a dark, agnsty read, while also getting nothing but sweet love and care from the men pretty much from the get go, this will fit the bill perfectly!
This book sucks. When I read the synopsis after a recommendation on facebook, I immediately wanted to read it. This book has all the themes I love in a book. A dark past, a psycho stalker, student - teacher relationship, age difference, four sexy men, two dangerous and two good guys, clubs.... But sadly that didn't make me like the book.
The author's writing was very bad. She doesn't know how to set the book well and I felt like she was giving us the details of what happens in a very superficial way. It goes from one situation to the next very quickly, one moment Aria is working, the next talking to a stranger and the next having sex with said stranger in the closet, then she suspects she is being followed and after a few hours she gets confirmation that her stalker is out of jail. There is no anticipation or build up to anything, which brings me to my next point: the characters.
God, there's nothing I hate more than bland characters. Aria is fucking vapid, her internal monologues, her dialogues with the other characters are, personally, hard to read. I don't know what the guys see in her other than that she's "beautiful", because there's nothing remarkable about her or anything to justify their need to protect her.
The four male protagonists aren't very distinguishable from each other either, if I'm being honest. They don't have any personality either, they're all plain and bland. I wanted to continue reading, but after getting halfway through the book I gave up because if I didn't like it in the first 100 pages, I'm pretty sure I won't like it in the next 100.
I don't understand the 4 and 5 star ratings this story got, or maybe it's that the saga of books I read before this one is still fresh in my mind and their characters left a slightly higher bar for this book to hook me.
I really wanted to like it, but this book just didn't do it for me. So, person who recommended this to me, I'm sorry for not enjoying it as I'm sure you did.
I wanted to love this book, but I just couldn't. I think that the cover design and the storyline do not match. The book cover is beautiful and exuded a vibe that screamed "dark romance," but I felt like it wasn't dark enough to be called dark romance. I hate to admit, but Snakes & Lovers kind of disappointed me.
The characters possessed characteristics, qualities, and quirks that stood out to me and pulled at my heartstrings. I love age gap and student/teacher tropes, but I felt like these tropes were not well-supported with any attention-grabbing moments, scenes, or interactions between the characters.
Although there weren't exactly any confessions of love yet, Snakes & Lovers felt like an instalove story. There wasn't really any [sexual] tension between Aria and her men, which didn't really develop chemistry or a foundation where romance could strongly bloom from. I love me some sexual tension or any tension between the FMC and MMCs because tension adds more character and depth to the relationships being built.
What I did love about Snakes & Lovers was that Aria had amazing friends who stuck by her through everything. I loved Sarah and Gemma! I wish there were more moments with Sarah and Gemma. Oh, and the spicy scenes! Those scenes definitely did not disappoint. I loved the office scenes and the scene with Austin at the beach! That was extra steamy!! I love that two of my favorite tropes were present in the book and make my heart flutter a bit. They just needed more development in the storyline.
It was a good book and I’m wanting to read the second one. Aria is this college student who has a traumatic past with her step-cousin. She works in this bar one night and talks to a stranger then hooks up with him but little did she know that his twin brother is her teacher! She meets Reid(hookup), Austin(Reid’s twin), Leo(the man that she likes from last year, Raff(her bodyguard at first). There’s Sarah and Gemma, Arias two best friends. Aria is being stalked and sent presents from her cousin who was supposed to be in Gaol but got out earlier so Raff comes in to watch out for her but hehe he falls for her. At the beginning there was a little jealousy between them all but they got over it and now they all share Aria. Zeeke is her cousin and at the end of the book he gets his friend to drug her and kidnap her. There are some wording in the book like how Leo said Ejaculation when him and Aria had sex in his office was a Ick. I laughed at Raff teasing Leo with a fake snake after he took care of the real one😂. Anyway I give this book a 4 out of 5 stars and it’s a mild spice…. This is the second book I read from the author so imma gonna continue bc I love RH and Why Choose romances☺️🤭.
Look this had me interested and intrigued but I felt like everything happened so quickly. There was no trust built, the professors were just "so interested" in caring for their student. I think the only character that had a reason to care for the FMC was Reid. The others were just convenient, and just didn't seem right.
Also weird the police weren't involved earlier, and I'm fairly sure Aria should have been notified by her legal counsel or police that Zeke was getting out.
One thing thats really bugging me is a green tree snake in Sydney city? I think there would be more luck having a diamond python or a children's python than a green tree snake, aren't they native to QLD? Lol
Low key I loved that this was based in Sydney, Australia. It felt so homey to read about the footy and AFL as well as all the other Australian slang. I did enjoy this, but was questioning the above.
For me, this was like a 3.5 star read. Mostly well written, with only a few errors, the story itself was okay. As with other books with similar plot lines, at times it felt like the characters were more worried about their libido than common sense. Equally frustrating, they weren't putting together the most basic of clues which led to extreme reader frustration. Similar to this, it was weird that at times Aria came off as a blushing wholesome girl while other times acting like a vixen (office scene with the professor). Also, as an aside, I found Sarah's character to be incredibly annoying. It felt like she was there for comedic relief, but instead she was way too pushy.
⭐️⭐️⭐️ - I enjoyed reading this book & would recommend. ❗️This is a dark romance, so be mindful of your triggers before beginning!❗️ I did enjoy reading this book & I am planning to read the 2nd book in the duet. I wouldn’t call the writing in this book the best, but I like to stick it out when I enjoy the plot line to see how the author’s writing evolves. There were very little character descriptions for the guys so initially I had a difficult time really connecting with them. I feel as if I knew nothing about them. As the story evolved, we get little snippets of the guys’ personality and characteristics, but I felt as if these were missing from the beginning. I will continue into the next book because I’m curious to see how Aria’s story continues!
I don't know whether to scream and rage or to be sobbing my heart out! I am hanging onto the edge of my seat with this book! Aria is such a strong character and she feels so real. She isn't the usual type of MC where you see she takes what happens and suddenly over comes everything you actually get to go through her story with her. The way this has been written let's you share her gripping moments (and I do mean finger clenchingly "gripping" moments). Her men are dorky but they are badass and caring too. I can't wait for the next part to come in Aria's story. K.L.Coburn you have done an amazing job!
It is my first time reading this author & I really enjoyed this book. I love that it was set in Australia.
The MFC has endured a lot of trauma in her past & her abuser is back to torment her. She is strong, resilient & hasn't let her past darken her view of life. I also loved the relationships she has with her best friends.
Her male love interests are all very different people & they each bring something to the table that is helping her to start to heal.
This story was the perfect mix of unexpected, emotional, and steamy! With two jaw-dropping gorgeous professors and two hot as sin bad boys these guys are what spicy dreams are made of! With strong romantic undercurrents to balance out the heat, it was so easy to fall for the characters!
Aria’s story is painful but to see the way she bounces back from her trauma- it was so easy to relate to her attitude!
I’m so excited to find out what happens next and watch all the pieces come together in this mesmerizing tale!
I’m gonna be completely honest this was the first time I have read a book like this wanted to try something new and OMG I couldn’t put it down I just wanted to keep reading, and I’m looking forward to the next book.
I love Aria’s character development with her past trauma (although I do think somethings should of had a bit more of affect, tho everyone does handle things differently)
As much as I loved the book I do believe a few scenes were cut short or seems a little rushed to me.
I loved this book from the start! I loved getting to see Aria develop and flourish despite her past traumas. Her friends are so supportive of her. And her men 🥵 I loved that it was set in Sydney. But that cliffhanger.. I need the next one!
🫶🏻why choose 🫶🏻alpha males 🫶🏻sexy teachers 🫶🏻age gap 🫶🏻touch her you die
This book was fantastic, Aria is trying to get away from her old life but her stalker is coming. Then you have four hot guys that will do anything to protect her and two are identical twins. Some spicy scenes. Could not put this book down-can’t wait for the second book. Left on a cliffhanger with me screaming nooooooo.❤️❤️❤️❤️
This book had a decent plot and medium-ish spice, however the writing felt clunky and unrefined. I was interested enough in the story to keep reading but I could only handle a chapter or two at a time because of the writing. It felt like a first time author wrote it but I don’t know if that’s the case or not.
I don't even want to spend the sixty seconds to review this crazy, sweet, terrifying book. Possessive men, professors, crime familes, stalking, kidnapping and all the sweet butterflies from blossoming love. It's all there and I need more... Sorry, gotta go read the next one. 🙃
This was pretty good. It just was difficult to stay engaged and the FMC was pretty full of herself at times. Like girl, not everyone wants your man 😭🤣. Also so much of it was just unrealistic for a contemporary book. It was a great premise and pretty good writing, but there was too much missing for a 4 star read.
This is okay so far, mainly because I’m excited for the next one. This one felt like it had a lot of useless fluff that didn’t really like.. pertain to anything. I also like couldn’t remember who Bryson was and when he said “saying hi to my cousin” I was really confused. The author is ok at driving subtle hints of what’s to come without fully giving it away. Definitely going to read the next one and hopefully up one star since it’ll be more action packed (I think)
