Wkurzona dziewczyna bierze sprawy w swoje ręce.
--I'm ashamed to admit that I paid for this book. Granted, it was like two bucks. Still, though, that's more than I should have paid for this.
--Yeah. It's supposed to be a horror spoof. I suspect that Diablo Cody only came up with that after the movie and book tanked.
--This is an instance that I can say with 100% confidence that I could have written a better book spoof. And not just because thirteen-year-old Alison's attempts at writing a book are of a comparable caliber. Remember when this story was all controversial because of a lesbian scene? Yeah, where was that? Because I was all excited to see what had everybody's panties in a bunch and there was nothing. Not even a friendly hello kiss. The book also doesn't show Needy trading her goods for a ride. I'll admit it--I'm disappointed. The promise of controversial sex was the only thing that made me finish reading this book. And Diablo's screenplay-to-novel-adapter-author-person never delivered.
I'm a bit of a sucker for books based off movies I've seen, and after watching Jennifer's Body and adoring it, I jumped at the chance to read the book.
It was ok. Not amazing, not great, but ok. It was nice to get to read and visualize some details that weren't in the theatrical version of the movie (the funeral for example) and to get a bit deeper into Needy's mind. I particularly liked Needy's description of the fire, seeing as you only get to view it in the film version rather than hear a detailed description.
However, there were far more cons than pros. To me, Chip is an important character in the film, while in the book he seems like a minor character that almost wouldn't have been included were it not for the pool scene. The book itself also read much more like a novel for middle schoolers than something based off an R rated movie. In my opinion, the novel should have remained explicit, and should have been more detailed. I found it easy to visualize things in detail as I read only because I had watched the movie four months prior. While the gore is included, it's not written very well.
Another important factor is that while the film is primarily Needy-centric, there are scenes were Jennifer and Chip are the main focus, and we needed to see that in the book. Switching POVs would have been better than just Needy retelling the tale.
I might have given this novel four stars if there had been one more chapter detailing the events revealed in the credits of the film. I would really have liked to read Needy's point of view on that, but alas, it's not to be. All in all, a good read if the idea of a high school cheerleader eating boys appeals to you, but you don't want any explicit material or particularly gory details.
Needy the nerd is BFF with hot, popular Jennifer Check. They've been best friends since they were tiny, and Needy has always been willing to do anything Jennifer asked.
But then the indie band Low Shoulder comes to town, and the venue burns down, and Jennifer disappears into the woods with the lead singer, and comes back different. And then the killings begin.
Needy may be the only person who knows the truth about Jennifer and the murders, so it's up to her to put a stop to it--even if everyone will think she's crazy.
This book is based on a screenplay by Diablo Cody, and it reads like that. The dialogue in Juno was awesome and hilarious to hear, but I suspect it would have felt a lot more forced and trying too hard written down--which is what this book felt like.
Maybe the movie will be awesome, but this book fails on pretty much every level.
Jennifer's Body is a really cool read. It's a horror spoof book which has a little bit of humour and a lot of gore. Which was something I found to be quite an interesting read. Like a lot of spoof things, I thought this was going to be a badly written tale. It actually wasn't. It was written quite well and it kept me entertained the entire time I was reading it. I just kept wanting to know what was going to happen next. I found Jennifer's Body to be predictable in some places but I felt that it didn't really matter about predictability because it was still highly entertaining. If you're looking for a short, entertaining read pick up Jennifer's Body the next time you see it. There is also a movie of this which comes out in theatres around the world quite soon so I will definitely be going to see that too.
Ok, I hate doing negative reviews but I just plain didn't like this book. The wording in it was so--fake, for a lack of better words. The words that the main character spoke are not words that real teenagers use. For example, Needy was wearing low-rise pants and her boyfriend told her But, like I can see your womb." And they call hot guys "salty." It just didn't work for me. The plot seemed rush--it just seemed like it was trying to be a cool slasher book and it didn't work.
I can't believe anyone would publish such CRAP! I have no idea how this compares to Diablo Cody's screenplay. But I doubt that the horrendous writing and the idiotic dialog would come from the writer of Juno. I had no sympathy for the characters. They were so dull and brainless that they deserved the demon possessed cheerleader. It's no wonder the authors name isn't on the cover!
i'll preface with - i didn't hate it. it's impossible to hate this book if you love the movie and jennifer's body is one of my favorites. however, this book really is a missed opportunity. they said copy + paste, line for line, phrase for phrase. it's a shame, honestly, because audrey nixon has the perfect horror-troped teen tone and she writes needy well. had she been braver to break away from the screenplay and crafted her own twist to the plot, it would have been arguably better than the movie.
but, y'know, here we are instead.
side note - if you're reading this and getting amped for that gay panic kiss, don't. it's a single line with no description. shoulda slipped some tongue for the lesbi-readers.
I'd rate the book about the same as I would the movie, fun but without much substance. The one thing I found slightly glaring about this was it felt like it was written as young YA and that seemed to take away from the building of any real tension or atmosphere.
Anita “Needy” Lesnicki is the best friend to wild, crazy, and beautiful Jennifer Check. After Needy is dragged to a club to see a up and coming Indie band called Low Shoulder, her life begins to unravel.
Needy notices some changes after their night at the club. Jennifer’s behavior gets more wild and leads to the deterioration of her and Needy’s relationship and even more disturbing is the fact that boys start turning up dead and partially eaten. All of a sudden, the town of Devil’s Kettle is in the national spotlight.
Needy decides she needs to get to the bottom of what is going on in town. She knows there is a connection between the band Low Shoulder and their immediate rise to the top and Jennifer’s weird behavior – she just doesn’t know what it is.
The story is told as a flash back from Needy’s point of view while she is in solitary confinement at Leech Lake Women’s Correctional Hopital. We know Needy did something bad – we just don’t know what it was. JENNIFER’S BODY is filled with fun and gore which makes it a super fast read. Be on the lookout for the movie sometime this Fall.
This was a quick read, and for a YA book it was quit scary. It starts off with a girl named Needy, and she is in a looney-bin. She then goes on to explain how she got in there and how her best friend Jennifer died. I think my favorite part of the book was when Needy was explaining about her town, Devil's Kettle in the first chapter. She tells about a waterfall and how it opens up into a hole and disappears. They have tried throwing things down it and nothing comes back up. No one can explain why. I love the cover of the book a well. The locket represents Needy and Jennifer's friendship and they each wear one. On the front cover and before each chapter there is blood splatter, I think it fits this book perfectly.
A quick read and very enjoyable, similar script to the film but still enjoyable. If you haven’t seen Jennifer’s body go watch it ! X I genuinely think it’s one of the better horror films centring around friendship and paranormal events which begin it breakdown. It’s hilarious it’s hugely entertaining and very well acted, Megan fox is so underrated and I have a feeling due to the me too movement she’ll be making a comeback and hopefully be offered real roles and not substance roles of standing there just to be sexy.
I read this book when I was 11, and absolutely loved it. Re-read it today in one sitting to get the october mood started! You've probably seen the movie Jennifer's Body with Megan Fox. This book is based of the movie. And it's really good though very silly.
Being that I’m such a huge fan of the movie, I’m still surprised I didn’t know this novelization existed until about 10 minutes before I ordered it (the price inflated about 250% smh) but I’m glad I did. I started and finished it in about two hours, and it was a joy to read. Very much late 2000’s, practically all the dialogue ripped from the movie/screenplay.
The only real disappointment was that the novelization was entirely from Needy’s point of view, so the shock of Jennifer making meals out of the local boys was pretty non-existent. That, and the relatively lengthy make out scene between Needy and Jennifer was cut down to two sentences in the novelization, which was an interesting choice, though I can respect it, given that the novelization was published under the Harper Teen imprint in 2009. (Scratch all that, my real disappointment was that there was no epilogue in the novelization to show just what exactly happened to Low Shoulder after Needy was done with them, which was admittedly a very cathartic part of the movie for me.)
Overall, I really, really enjoyed it, and even though I’ve seen the movie a hundred times, it was just as fun to read the novelization. Easily 5/5 stars, would probably be 10/10 if I could rate that high.

It is really awful. I am a huge fan of the movie and feel it got judged too harshly but this book is a waste. I spent 2 dollars on it and that felt like too much. The movie was a billion times better. There was no extra substance to the book, no character development and a very rushed plot. It felt like a cheap and ridiculous copy of the movie. It had all the same scenes and dialogue and nothing new or exciting. Plus it felt way more cheesy and ridiculous. Save yourself some time and watch the movie for fun (don’t expect a masterpiece it’s a fun horror comedy) and for Megan Fox. This book is not it.
The cover of this book announces that it's "based on a screenplay by Diablo Cody," and that seems like a fair summary of the story. This isn't a novel so much as a bullet-point list of events, more like a storyboard than a book in its own right.
Jennifer's Body is a dark comedy along the lines of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, but much more graphic. Expect lots of disembowling and plot cliches, but the dialog is surprisingly good, and the interplay between the two main characters is fun to watch.
It's a very quick read--I think I went cover-to-cover in 45 minutes--and it's fun. Nothing more, nothing less.
Jennyfer's Body fait partie de ma liste de diamant en tant que film. C'est un de mes films préférés (of all time).
I picked this up as a quick read and while it was somewhat entertaining, it was mainly just cheesy.
It's filled to the brim with outdated references and very unrelatable "lingo". It actually hurts to imagine anyone thinking or talking like the main characters in this book.
That being said, if you go into this with very low expectations it is entertaining enough to finish.
I read this in middle school and completely forgot. The fact I cared about "Needy" and Jennifer's relationship more than "Needy" and her boyfriend's relationship should have gave me clues to my sexuality as a kid...nonetheless, it's the pure nostalgia for me.
Love the movie, so I wanted to read it. I think the movie explored Jennifer's character more than the novel. Here it's all Needy ( not bad, but i wanted more of Jennifer ). For fans ( like me ) it's an interesting gadget to put on the shelf.
I picked this up at a used bookstore thinking a friend of mine would enjoy it and decided to read it on a lark. It was a quick read and an entertaining story and now I really want to watch the movie.
