I received an advance reader copy of this book to read in exchange for an honest review via netgalleyand the publishers.

Creative Wanderlust is a beautiful, aesthetically pleasing, non-fiction book all about how to create an art journal using mixed media. Each page has great information, pictures of materials, projects, how-to guides, etc, and has some ideas I'd never even thought of. I've recently started an art journal, and this has given me so much inspiration and ideas of things to try. Some of the pages in the authors own art journal are amazing and I love her creativity! This is an easy to follow book with lots of creative thought and inspiration for the reader to take away with them.

I really like Kasia and her style. I've bought some of her other courses too, like Wanderlust, so I had high hopes for this book.

The main aim of the book is to help people who want to start art journaling but might be scared of the blank page or don't know where to begin. You don't need to be a talented artist to use this book because it has lots of step-by-step guides, mostly focused on abstract art and using cut-out pictures. It's great for people who can't draw well but want to try journaling. If you're new to journaling, this book can give you a good start.

However, if you've been doing art journaling for a while, you might find this book somewhat underwhelming. It talks about motivation and self-help, which you might have heard before. The art tutorials are quite simple, and the style is a bit messy and chaotic. Also, the book includes things like herbal tea recipes and music playlists, which might not be what you expected in an art book.

I'm glad I read the book, but personally, I'll stick to taking more of Kasia's courses.

This is such a fantastic art workbook.

I’ve been wanting to get into art journaling and I love how this is set up. It starts by giving you step by steps on how to choose or make your own journal. Then it goes into choosing supplies, colors, and gives you prompts on how to fill your art journal.

The pages are beautiful and the book itself is well organized.

I appreciate Netgalley and Quarto Publishing for gifting me an e-version of this book prior to publication and I can’t wait for it to come out so I can have a physical version on my shelf to work through in my art journal experiments.

I *loved* this book for creatives which focusses on where and how to find inspiration for art journaling, presented here as the foundation of creative practice. There are lots of great prompts and tips on where to look for inspo, as well as guidance on what tools and resources you can use—mainly, those you have to hand. There are also loads of clear images to inspire and guide.

Thank you to NetGalley and to Quarry Books for yet another wonderful creative resource.

I don't think that after reading this manual I will take up the art of journaling, but I must say that I liked the book quite a bit, especially the photos and some of the ideas the author gave me.

Non credo che dopo aver letto questo manuale mi daró all'arte del Journaling, ma devo dire che il libro mi é piaciuto parecchio, soprattutto per le foto e per alcune idee che mi ha dato l'autrice.

I received from the Publisher a complimentary digital advanced review copy of the book in exchange for a honest review.

It is one of those books that at first you kind of just page through, but keep going back for inspiration.

The pictures are very beautiful and skillful and the prompts are thought provoking. I do wish it had some more depth, because it really is only about how to start your journaling practice and less about how to deepen it.

Although I fancy myself to be an artist, I’ve always been intimidated by art journaling. Letting go of the need to plan a composition is difficult. But that’s just what this book encourages: choosing random pages in your book rather than working them consecutively; accepting each mark you make and moving on; trying not to overthink. Filled with examples from the author’s own journals and over a dozen other art journalists, there are many ideas, prompts and stories to help the reader get creative. The photos are really gorgeous and, for creative souls, will definitely spur ideas.

There’s a lot here about letting your intuitive creativity run free, ideas for things to journal about and tools to use, but the thing that is missing is, why would you want to? If you’re already an artist, the benefits are clear: art journaling can let you explore thoughts, ideas, techniques and styles in a judgment-free zone. And, if you’re an artist, you probably have a lot of the materials and tools the author mentions. If the audience is non-artists, though, they’re not going to run out and buy 3 colors of gesso, especially because they probably don’t know what gesso is, and they may not yet be convinced of the benefits of creative expression. It would have been nice for the author to include examples that feature materials that are probably hanging around most peoples’ houses, like crayons, markers and school glue. That kind of outlook would also make journaling accessible to people with limited financial resources.

I would have also loved to see more about the benefits of creativity, considering that some experts are now claiming that exercising creativity may be as important to our health as physical exercise and nutrition. Artists take it for granted that creativity is a good thing, but not all people get that.

Thanks to Quarto/Quarry for the opportunity to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

----------------------------

I admit that I was expecting something completely different from this book.
I expected many more tutorials and photos of projects to be carried out and instead I found myself reading a book that talks more about mindfulness and psychology.
In fact, all the tutorials found in the book are very basic and simple and serve to break the ice or the blank page. The text, on the other hand, is full of advice and stories about the author's experience, who explains that creating an art journal is like medicine for ourselves, something that helps us to unleash our creativity, to throw out our thoughts and problems, to express what we have inside and that we may not even know exists.

I found it very interesting and after all if I wanted tutorials, the internet is full and overflowing with videos.
Here, however, there are so many things to learn about ourselves!

Thanks Netgalley for letting me read the preview of the book!

Often when I read guide books for art, it can be rather boring and generic with the concepts. For this book that is not the case. The different project exercises that are provided give readers a great starting point and guidelines that could help with art block. What I think worked really well for the steps in the projects was that it still allowed for readers to follow their own instincts rather than having everyone make an identical outcome. Speaking of art block it also does well at showing readers how they can avoid getting art block while journaling and how to come up with fresh ideas, which is something that I have personally struggled with before. This book is definitely good for beginners and intermediate art journalists who want help getting into the craft more.

This is a very detailed book all about creative art journaling. It is a very thought-provoking book as it covers not only getting started in art journaling, but also how to overcome common problems we all face such as mindset issues, as well as engaging in self reflection. I liked the fact that there is no emphasis on ‘doing it right’; rather that we can create in whatever way feels right to us. I felt very inspired after reading this book to have a go at art journaling myself, and would recommend it to anyone who is a beginner or even more experienced as it is full of hints, tips and advice that will enhance any existing practice.

With thanks to Netgalley and Quarry books for this advanced reader copy. All opinions are my own.

Perhaps this would have been better entitled “Creative art therapy” as a big part of the book addresses feelings, perfectionism, and mindfulness. The title implies that this is a book about travel art journaling, which it is not.

There is a lot of good information and techniques on how to fill your journal, including several guided prompts. I enjoyed reading the bits of biographical information, and how it affects her art.

.However, I found the journal pages rather busy and not the art style that I normally enjoy. Those who are looking to express and heal their feelings and life issues may find some help here though.

I confess I have never unlocked my artistic potential with my mixed-media art journals, but working on my art journal pages is when I have felt the least self-conscious when it comes to artistic endeavors. This was a medium I explored every Friday night when I lived in Puerto Rico. Surrounded by friends and rosé we created a safe space to let ourselves go and create.

This book reminded me of how much I missed those times. While several of the projects in its pages are beyond my artistic ability, there are a handful I want to try and so I have pre-ordered Creative Wanderlust in the hopes that it will inspire me to once again carve out time to devote to art journaling.

Thank you Netgalley and Quarto Publishing Group for this eCopy to review

An inspirational book to get anyone creating art. It gives lots of tips on how to get started and how to fit art journaling into your day. The instructions and prompts are easy to follow, without being too prescriptive, I love the chatty style! It is like Kasia is there beside you teaching you what to do. The photos are gorgeous and very aspirational.

Kasia also gives advice on how it can help with your self-care and being mindful. An excellent option if traditional journaling is not your thing

I was so excited to read this book because I love Kasia's work. I enjoyed reading the prompts and learning new techniques. This was a quick read, but it was filled with interesting information. I plan on rereading this book to attempt to complete the prompts. This book is perfect for people who are just starting out with art journals.

I've been doing art journaling for some years (in part as idea generation for proper work) so I'm fairly sure I'm not the exact target audience for this book. However having read through it, I have to say I feel inspired to experiment a bit outside my comfort area (I'm a bit of a perfectionist) - I particularly liked the section on image transfers, as whilst I have experimented with this in the past I've not had too much success.

Creative Wanderlust is a gorgeous example of what an instructional guide should be. I have perused many other art journaling books before and this one is particularly aesthetically pleasing and also goes more in depth as to how the personal practice of creating can support you. I even bought a hard copy to continue exploring!

I love the photography shots of art supplies and some of the contributors art journal pages are really well done; however, I don’t like any of the pages by the author. I’m not into making (or looking at) messy spreads that look like they were made by a young child. I am also not into art therapy, nor do I have suppressed feelings that I need to release thru art. I thought this was going to be more of a technique tutorial than it is, so I was disappointed not to learn much from this book.

I can’t wait to get started. I’ve always worried about wasting my supplies or how things will turn out. This book gives you permission to play. Just enjoy the process as much as the end results.

If you didn’t get a single thing from this book (which if you read it that’s impossible) you will love the pictures. I could look at each picture a thousand times and not be disappointed.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read the ARC for this book. This was perfect for inspiring creativity while not getting bogged down in perfectionism. It had wonderful ideas for how to document thoughts, emotions, and aspects of life in a very personal way. The projects were a great place for the reader to start.

Very little actual instruction; majority of the book focuses on self help guidance, but its broad strokes without cited evidence make it hard to take seriously. The book also seems geared toward artists leveled at intermediate and above, which is unclear from the packaging.

Very similar to other art journaling books, casual tone to writing. I'm looking for inspiration, not an enthusiastic new friend. Also, she talks about her company a lot, feels more like a promotional piece than a book. Not much for me here.

Kasia's voice in the book is that of an encouraging teacher that inspires you to sit down and create alongside her.
