That pretty much sums up my reading journey. I, for the life of me, cannot figure out how this book has so many 4 and 5 star ratings. Everything about it was pretty horrible.

Rose is a 21 year old college student who, after the death of her mother, is pretty much put on house arrest from her over bearing father. But that doesn't stop her from sneaking out to meet her boyfriend during his breaks from his job as a club security guard. But wait, not all is as it seems, and Rose's boyfriend is actually a vampire. Oh, there's more. Rose actually knows that Christian is a vampire and her plan is to get turned and surprise him with her knowledge of his kind! That sounds logical, right? I mean, it makes even more sense after learning that her mother was killed by a vampire. KILLED. But whatevs, she's in love and her plan is fool proof. A plan that she makes after seeing a vampire feeding on her mother. Her legit response was, "Oh vampires are real. Can you help me with my history paper?"

description

There was just so many things wrong with this book that I don't know where to start. The plot was ridiculous with so many things that didn't work or flow. I blame a lot on the writing. It was poorly put together. The author chose just to "tell" us everything that happened instead of showing. Because of this we got 5 different POV's. 5. Including one from Rose's father. WHY? These were the most pointless chapters I've ever read. All of this information would have been better introduced in interactions with his daughter.

Another issue was the "relationship" between Christian and Rose - or lack thereof. They basically only see each other at night during his breaks from work to make out in his car... HOW THE HELL ARE YOU IN LOVE? Even worse, Christian fell in love from the moment he saw her and caught her scent *rolls eyes*. I felt nothing between them the entire book. Relationship fail.

The characters themselves read very immature. Rose was supposed to be a college student and every time they mentioned school I immediately thought high school. I had to force myself every time to remember that she was 21. She read like a 16 year old. Also vampires who have apparently been around for centuries read like they were literally turned yesterday. No one was believable in their roles.

I almost gave this two stars because I did like the different lore with how vampires are made and the connections with sires, but I couldn't bring myself to do this with how the book was written. It's safe to say that this is one series I will not be continuing.

My Rating: 2 and a half stars

This book has me so perplexed. There were a few things that happened or were mentioned in this novel that I can't wrap my head around. This story could have gone in a completely different direction if it weren't for all that.

My biggest problem was with Jeremy (Rose's dad). At this point Rose is twenty years old, almost finishing college and making plans to move out, so I couldn't understand his incessant worrying over what she was doing and what time she had to be home. I understand his wife died because of a home invasion, but that was six months ago. She couldn't even let him know she was going out with her boyfriend because he'd go all caveman on her. I also didn't understand why he kept the Meredith secret. Rose is old enough to be OK with it all, if it wasn't for the extenuating circumstances.

I don't have much to say about Christen. He seemed like a nice guy who cared for Rose and her wellbeing. I don't feel like I got to know him very much in this novel because Rose could barely meet up with him because of the caveman of a dad she had.

This novel did leave off at a minor cliffhanger and I can say curiosity killed the cat. I will probably skim through the next novel just to know what happens next at some point in the future. I came to the conclusion that this story was not for me.

The Audio Book:

The audio book was very interesting and I have nothing negative to say about it. I really enjoyed the sound effects they put in when the character point of view was changing.

Tish Thawer's debut novel, Scent of a White Rose, is a great mix of romance and mystery. You have a love story between Rose, a twenty year old college student and Christian, a 602 year old vampire. Yes we've read this love story a thousand times but this one has twist to it.

The vampires in this book are a little different than the usual vampires I read. I like that each author has their own take on the creatures or I would be bored out of my mind with them. Tish's vamps are light vampires, which means they are good but once they let their emotions or hunger take them over they start to drift. Meaning that they turn darker; their eyes and hair get a darker shade and sometimes appear black. But once they get their control back they drift back to their normal or light coloring. When I was reading this description it made me think of dark Willow in Buffy the Vampire Slayer when she got all dark and veiny looking.

Everyone has secrets that they are keeping from their friends and loved ones. There is mystery that surrounds Rose's mother's death. As the plot unfolds we get answers to this mystery and others. But of course this only brings up new questions for the future books in the series. Tish leaves just enough of a cliffhanger to make you want say, "UGH! I need the next book".

Scent of a White Rose is not the plain Jane girl meets vampire and falls in love story. I'm not going to tell you much more about the plot but I will tell you that you should add this book on you TBR list.

Title: Scent of a White Rose (The Rose Trilogy #1)
Author: Tish Thawer
Publisher/Imprint: Amber Leaf Publishing, January 2012
Genre: Fantasy/paranormal
Format: I was given an ARC by the author.

Rose is perceived by everyone to be innocent and pure – a “white rose” but Rose isn’t what she appears. Underneath her pure exterior lies the heart of a young woman who is nobody’s fool. She is repressed by an over protective father, held back by the death of her mother and holding in secrets that no one can imagine.
Christian is the man that Rose loves. He has secrets of his own. Like the fact that he’s a vampire and has been alive for hundreds of years. He can’t tell Rose, he can’t break the code of his clan and the laws of the vampire world. But he has a plan. With the arrival of a new “sire” on the horizon Christian sees it as his opportunity to finally make Rose a complete part of his life and world. Forever.
But before Rose can get to forever they both have to push past the secrets that they are keeping and accept one another for who they truly are…

I was excited to receive an ARC of Scent of a White Rose from Tish Thawer because I had seen the covers around social media and I was intrigued to read the story that lie behind the gorgeous artwork. Artwork designed by Regina Wamba at Mae I Design.
Scent of a White Rose is a quick and easy read that keeps the reader intrigued as the story and secrets unfold. What I liked best was the new concept that Thawer has brought to the vampire world. I know that many readers have grown tired of the vampire book (I am not one of them, I appreciate a good vamp still) and I think this new concept will intrigue a lot of people. It’s the concept of “drifting”. A vampire drifts from dark to light… how does one know when a vampire is drifting? I’m not giving it all away, read the book!
I also enjoyed the pace that the story moved. Something was always happening so the story never really lagged.
I enjoyed the coven of vampires – seeing their closeness – their humanity… something that not a lot of vampires show but they all did and it made them more real in a lot of ways. Christian was a great character and I liked his loyalty to Rose and his understanding.
Rose was a complex character. On one hand she was innocent and seemed young but on the other hand she was strong and wanted to break out of the mold that everyone put her in. It was good to see her stand up for what she wanted in her own life.
Something that I was a little put off by was the bad language. It seemed (to me) that the characters cursed an awful lot. I certainly don’t mind bad language (I’m guilty of it too) but it seemed unnecessary to me. I thought that the characters could display their outrage and strong feelings in other ways. There were also a few parts that I thought the story was being “told” instead of “shown” but with the great pace that the story moved this wasn’t something that hindered my reading.
Overall, I would say this was a unique and well thought out story that many paranormal readers will enjoy. I cannot wait to see where Rose and Christian go next in the second book of The Rose Trilogy. I definitely think that Tish Thawer is an author that we all should be watching.
So there you have it. My opinion.

This story is totally Rock! There's a lot of action, a really good plot, interesting characters and most of all: the unpredictable ending! What the hell! I love to be surprise by new author: when you start to read a specific gender (as PNR) after a few years, every book seems to be the same. Sometime, you stumble on a story that sounds like something you've already read, but then, something special happens and you realise that this book have a little plus! The general plot was great but still, this story has a unique kind of twist that really impresses me.

The main character, Rose, is a girl next door, with nothing special. I really liked this character because she reminded me when I was fighting with my parents (when I was a teen!) LOL

As soon as I started to read Scent of a White Rose, I realise that the main character (Rose) was living one of the most difficult moment of her life! She had a normal past with her family and now everything was different and it's probably really hard to take. I think when you read about someone who is living a hard time; you get attached to this character. You hope that everything will get better and then we meet the mysterious and handsome Christian. Wow I saw the picture of Christian on the Rose Trilogy blog and I totally agree with the choice of man! Plus he's so concern about Rose! But my fav picture was the one of DAX: OH MY GOD (nothing else to say).

All the sensual scenes were really driving me crazy! They were well written and I totally buy them, when I read them! I wanted to feel Christian hands all over me instead of Rose! I really like the style of this author: the fact that each character have they own paragraph to express they thought, was a great idea! I love to see who is feeling what or which conversation can be taken differently. Every character was great to know about, they were well described and I love to know them past and how they meet each other!

I was pretty interested by the originality of the history (legends and myths) around the vampires in this book. Tish Thawer mix the original vampire tale : with the blood sucking, enthralling people, bite marks but she created a new kind of vampire that still sleep when the sun is up high but developed new abilities and got Sire and Consort.

Surprising ending, all this time, I thought about how it could end and I never see this one (until a few chapters with a lot of in!) coming! I love to be blown away, by the machiavelique mind of the author! Tish Thawer knows how to get the reader to keep reading!

The book cover is amazing! Look at that face, which can resist that! If I was a guy I would fall for this one! Just gorgeous!

The only thing I thought was kind of hard to believe was the fact that they (Rose and Christian) almost never see each other: even in the story, they only get together if Rose goes to the club where Christian is working. I wanted to read more about them together! And BTW I didn't want this book to ending, when I saw 186 pages, I was thinking: Oh Gosh, if I like this book I will read it in a minute! Tish Thawer is definitely an author to keep an eye on! Great debut novel: I'm eager to read the second book!

This has only been my second Vampire series.I thoroughly enjoyed Scent of a White Rose. It was real page turner. Dialog was really good. The plot was truly kept me on the edge , coming back at every opportunity to read as much as I can before my daily duties tore me away. I found most of the characters likable ,and hearing from a variety of characters point of view I found myself torn between sympathizing with even the bad guy in the story. The main character Rose is not your typical sweet naive girl, witch put a likable spin on things .I would recommend this for a more mature age group as the language is at times harsh. Definitely a fun read , scenes I often lost myself in. I am really happy about the fact we wont be waiting too long for Blood of a Red rose.

Review: Scent of a White Rose by Tish Thawer

When my author friends have new books coming out, I love to support them by inviting them to guest post on my blog and to do interviews. When I learned that Tish Thawer’s novel, Scent of a White Rose, was being released, I wanted to do more than just invite her to make my blog a stop on her tour – I desired the pleasure of being able to drift away into her unique paranormal world with an ARC copy of my own to escape into! So, with my boys at school and hubby at work, (my afternoon free from distraction), I pulled out my new fleece blanket, favorite fuzzy socks, and a cup of gingerbread coffee and curled up by the fire with my Kindle Fire. Within moments of the very first chapter, I was swept into Thawer’s paranormal romance that was filled with suspense and bits of mystery, creepy antagonists and sexy vampires – all much to my liking!

This book had all of the elements I enjoy in a young adult paranormal romance.

1) The characters are multidimensional and interesting. Although there were times I wanted to chastise Rose for having the language of a truck driver or smack her Dad for being blind and controlling – the flaws Thawer crafted in her characters make them realistic and believable. She didn’t take a cookie cutter approach which was refreshing. For example – there were times I thought Rose was too immature for 20, but then, taking into consideration how much she and her father had been through – it made sense.

2) Excellent Pacing. This author has mastered her narrative drive which I personally appreciate. Her writing is crisp and to the point – there are no pages of nonstop scenery slowing down the action!

3) Steamy Romance. I loved the relationship between these two lovers. It wasn’t co-dependent and creepy, but they really had deep emotions for each other. How that will be resolved in the future books shall be interesting. (If Rose can’t be Christian’s consort – every available female reader will want the job!)

4) Multiple Points of View. Maybe I’m biased because that is a writing technique that I employ myself, but I find it refreshing to not just be in one person’s head. Of course, it will depend on the novel but I think the author gave us just enough insight into each of the main characters to provide an appropriate amount of structure and to further the plot.

5) Just the right length. We’ve all read books that have either ended too abruptly or went on and on long after the plot was dead. Not the case for Scent of a White Rose. It was a pleasurable quick read that left enough intrigue and care for the characters that I will want to read the others in the series without being overdone.

Overall – excellent book and I recommend it if you are a fan of the Sookie Stackhouse books by Charlaine Harris, The Blood Coven Vampire series by Mari Mancusi, Rachel Caine’s Morganville Vampire’s Series, and of course, my first novel, Fate Fixed – I highly recommend the read.

Original Romancing the Darkside review:
http://romancingthedarkside.blogspot....

An enchanting debut worthy of praise!

Rose is a young woman who is trying to cope with the sudden death of her dear mother. Tired of being treated as an innocent young girl and being under her father's constant vigilance, she seeks refuge in the arms of the dark and mysterious vampire Christian. His identity has been kept a secret from Rose while he waits for the day to reveal himself and share the gift of immortality with his true love. But Christian isn't the only one with a secret, Rose has a few of her own that will put their love to the ultimate test and forever change their lives.

I was drawn into Rose and Christian's story from the first page. You won't find any sulking or brooding blood drinkers here, instead we are introduced to a new hierarchy of light and dark vampires who live among humans by concealing their identities, while following a code of ethics among them. Rose is a admirable heroine, even for her young years. She's had her share of tragedy and never lets that stop her from trying to live her life to the fullest. Rose is sweet, smart, outspoken and a character you can really identify with, I love her optimism and determination.

Christian, her love interest might look like a bad boy, but he's quite the gentleman and romantic. His love for Rose is pure and will stop at nothing to protect her, what more could you want in a hero? Christian is the perfect leading man, he's sexy, protective and loyal, he'll have you wrapped around his finger in no time with his chivalrous ways! Another character that really made an impression on me was the vampire Terrance. He's mysterious, dark and definitely a tortured hero who has lost his way but still has some good in him, I can't wait to learn more about his character in future books.

In Scent of a White Rose, Tish Thawer crafts a seductive vampire tale with her eloquent writing style and keen sense of romance that simply entrances! The story line of vampire guy falls in love with human girl might sound familiar, but don't let that deter you from getting your hands on this book. The author's take of the vampire myth is fresh, exciting and engaging. Scent of a White Rose has all the essential elements of a paranormal romance: a suspenseful plot that will keep you on edge, solid characters, a beautiful love story and a climactic ending that will leave you begging for more of Rose and Christian! A great beginning to a promising new series by a new and gifted author you won't want to miss.

My review has been posted over at my blog: http://thepararomanceclub.blogspot.co...

Vampires, a hot sweet guy, a not-so-sweet heroine and lots and lots of heavy make-out scenes? Yep, Tish Thawer found my favourite ingredients and she definitely knows how to put them together.

Rose, as a heroine, is pretty bad-ass. She swears, is completely fearless and has a temper problem so not your average princess then. At times I didn't like her and at times, her reactions just didn't seem realistic, but she definitely kept me entertained. Some of the things she said, definitely qualified as laugh-out-loud moments.
Christian is an absolute angel and I really want to know where I can get one of him. By angel, of course, I mean a guy who swears, drinks blood for a living and works at a bar...but we won't dwell on that. He is totally, head of fangs in love and lust with her and it shows completely *sigh*. I enjoyed the fact that we got a sense of him, through both his own perspective and through Rose's. I also liked the fact that we weren't bombarded with all his past history (which would be a ridiculous amount, considering her has lived for 602 years! Talk about dating an older guy.)

Plot-wise, I was gripped. Every time I thought I had figured out something, something new would be added and even though it is not completely original (What is any more? My philosophical musing of the day...), I enjoyed the suspense of it all. I did however also feel like we skipped a few key scenes and at times I was left wondering if we were ever going to see some of their past. But I have discovered that Tish Thawer is writing a prequel about Christian and Rose! So it is all good.

Overall, I think Paranormal YA Romance is starting with a bang! Hehehe, get it 'bang', it rhymes with 'fang'...okay then never mind.

Sensual, passionate and thrilling, are only some of the words that describes “Scent of a White Rose”. Vampires and demons with an exciting difference added to the enjoyment and uniqueness of this book. Beautifully descriptive romance between the main characters which indulges the reader’s senses, took me deeper into their love and feelings for each other. I also enjoyed that the story is told from different viewpoints, so the reader knows exactly what each character is thinking and feeling – but at the same time I also felt that there could be more showing and less telling.

The highly imaginative plotline is full of kick-ass twists and builds up in intensity the further you get into the book. The concept of “drifting” in which the feelings of vampires are visible through the changing colors of their hair, eyes and skin at different stages of their emotions, tickled me pink and fascinated me. Everything comes nicely together by the end of the story, with enough left over for the next book in the series.

A quick and easy read, this is definitely a five star book, but the profanity got a little much for me halfway through and therefore the 4 stars. But overall, I enjoyed this exhilarating first volume in The Rose trilogy from start to finish and can’t wait for the next book to be released!

Scent of a White Rose is a simple, easy and fast read. I read the whole thing in a span of an afternoon. Told from the point of view from a variety of characters, we get to see into the mind of almost the whole main group.

Ms. Thawer sets up her vampires a bit differently than everyone else. From their creation story, to who is able to make more vampires. This isn't a book where just any old vampire can bite someone and turn them. I liked that because it gave a bit of conflict for the novel. The only thing I would like to see more in the second and third book is less "telling". The characters lay everything out for the reader instead of showing the reader what is going on. But overall, it's a good read with a promising storyline.

My Initial Reaction...
Scent of a White Rose got off to a rough start for me, with quite a few eye-rolling moments, but redeemed itself big time in the second half. I still have some things that seem a bit ridiculous to me, but overall, I really enjoyed this different take on vampires.

The Narration...
Stephanie Bentley did a good job narrating Scent of a White Rose. The voices were distinct and had personality. I wasn't blown away, but it was a solid performance. The one thing that bothered me was the way she said the names of characters when the point of view changed. It was super airy, like she was trying to sound very sensual, but instead it made me laugh almost every single time.

The Characters...
Rose is a really immature, naive 20 year old. And that got on my nerves a bit. At one point I thought she was also incredibly stupid, but thankfully I was wrong on that count. Her mother was killed just 6 months before the start of Scent of a White Rose and her father is being understandably protective. Sure, he's going a bit overboard, but Rose's reaction to his protectiveness felt very immature. I think this threw me off because I went into this expecting an adult read, but really got a young adult one, complete with teenage angst.

The other element that felt really immature to me was her relationship with her boyfriend, Christian. These two are talking about loving each other, but every time they're together it's just "let's makeout." Don't get me wrong, I'm all for some sexy goodness, but that's lust. Y'all don't talk enough to be in love!

The Story...
What I really really liked about Scent of a White Rose was the unique take on vampires. We get a pretty neat origin story a good ways in that I enjoyed and they are very different from your typical vampires - but still recognizable as vampires (they drink blood, don't go out during the day, etc). I particularly liked two things the most - (1) only one vampire in a line has the ability to sire (i.e., create) new vampires at a time and once they lose that ability it takes time for a new sire to rise. (2) Vampires drift between light and dark --- intense emotions can trigger the drifting, which is manifested in a change in appearance to darker features --- but true darkness manifests in the way they treat their prey and is policed.

The vampire mythology really pulled the story along for me, because the actual plot for Scent of a White Rose was FAIRLY predictable. I say fairly because there were a couple of twists that I didn't see coming from the get-go, but once certain plot elements happened, I ended up seeing them before the characters did too. I had one frustration - there's lots of points of view in Scent of a White Rose, which is fine in general, but sometimes the timeline was all over the place. You'd be with one character tonight, the other character tomorrow morning, back to another character still tonight, and then it's morning again, back and forth. That was irritating and a little hard to keep track of at times (especially since it happened most towards the end when everything was really happening).

Concluding Sentiments...
Although the characters weren't my favorite, I found the vampire mythology really fascinating and the potential story line established in Scent of a White Rose is intriguing enough that I plan to continue with the series.

Just Okay

"But I’ll be damned if he’s going to stop me from seeing Christian."

Just when you think vampires have been done in every way possible in the literary world ….Tish Thawer comes flying in with a whole new paranormal world with vampires and demons! Vampires are good, they have clans, they have powers, they can turn dark…everything about Scent of a White Rose was such a fresh new concept when it came to vampires, actually it was just a whole new concept in general for the paranormal genre! This is a read any paranormal lover should read!

Scent of a White Rose had an amazing storyline, one thing wrong with YA novels these days I feel is their predictability. I would say about 70% (maybe more) YA novels I read I can always figure out what is going to happen next, I know the authors try hard to make things suspenseful, and a mystery, but in all honesty a lot of them fail at it. This does not mean I don’t enjoy their books, I still do..but when I come across a book that kept me on the edge of my seat and biting my nails over what was going to happen next and left me literally shocked at times, you know it’s a good read.

The characters were all very likeable too, although I must say I wish I could’ve gotten to know some of the ‘not so main’ characters. I am hoping throughout the rest of the series we will learn more about them, as far as the main characters go I really liked them. Rose was a likeable girl, I loved how independent she was, and how she was figuring out things all on her own. Most heroines have help (a lot of help) putting the pieces together, but Rose mostly did it all on her own! It gave me tons of respect towards her as a character. Christian I loved, I thought he was well first off he sounded like he was really sexy, which is always a plus, he was very protective of Rose, and you could really tell he cared for her tremendously. I also liked seeing how much he cared for his ‘family’ (other vampires in the clan), most books focus a lot on the romance aspect of love, it was nice also seeing how much he and his clan cared for eachother, not just how he felt about Rose. I really did love Rose and Christian and a few of the other main charcters, but I think my favorite was Jillian, Roses best friend, and the only reason for her being my favorite is cause I feel I connect with her and out of all the characters she reminded me a lot of myself, which was nice! Overall though Tish has put together an awesome cast!

When it came to the romance I really loved how it was different than most YA books also, the point that Scent of a White Rose starts at, Rose and Christian have already been dating for a while. This was weird to me at first since normally YA novels start out with the girl is alone and then meets some mysterious guy blah blah (you all know how it goes), at first I didn’t like the fact that we didn’t get to really read about the process of Rose and Christian falling in love, but the more I got into the story the more I liked it, it was kind of nice skipping the beginning of their relationship, it was deff a new experience reading it, and yet another way Scent of a White Rose is a fresh new take in the YA world.

Overall, this book was such a great read. If you’re looking for a new paranormal romance read and one that is more on the mature end of YA with awesome characters, then look no further! Scent of a White Rose will have its readers on the edge of their seat, and leave them dying for book two!

Where to begin ... these are always the hardest reviews to write. The story kept me entertained enough, but I still had some ... complaints? Let's just jump in with both feet.

I would categorize this as NA (New Adult) because the main character, Rose, is 20, going on 21. Her age is actually really important in the story, because her boyfriend Christian, works at a night club and bar, so she can't go in. When you first start, you find out that Rose's mom was killed in a "freak accident" roughly 6 months before where the story starts. Rose had been seeing Christian before this event, and continued to see him after. But I got the impression that she snuck out to see him whenever she got the chance, waited for him outside by his car, they made out on his breaks, then he went back to work, he never came up to see her, and they never talked on the phone - yet they are in love. O_O Ok, dating just under a year is plenty of time to fall in love, it's just with the way it is written I didn't get the impression their relationship was more than just making out.

The story itself was kind cute, if REALLY cheesy, and very reminiscent of Twilight in certain aspects. While not the most amazing thing ever written ever, I was still entertained the whole way. Even when I was rolling my eyes at things said or done, it was still with a grin on my face.

Something that bothered me over and over ... Rose's school. She says repeatedly she is in college, and she is writing a thesis (which I thought didn't happen until higher levels as my BS didn't have anything resembling a thesis but whatever) HOWEVER she goes to school and comes home at the same time every day, has to ask permission to leave a "study day" in one class to go to the library, is dismissed by bells, and at one point, when she gets in trouble for disturbing class, the teacher says to meet him at the end of the day. All which sounds WAY more like High School than any college I have ever heard of. Again, not a big deal in the scheme of things, but for some reason every time it was brought up it irritated the crap out of me.

There are also several different POV's (points of view) with which the narrator does a good job distinguishing between. Though the weird "whispering" of the names at the beginning of each section was just ... weird. *shrugs* I didn't think all the POV's were needed either. About half way in we start getting some from her dad, and another woman you meet later on. I honestly didn't think either of them were needed for the story. Their sections were always really short as well.

Overall, with the overprotective father (which I didn't even mention), the immaturity of the MC, and the things that happened ... or didn't ... in this story, I think it would have been better suited to a YA (Young Adult) book, rather than have the characters be the ages they were. It would have made more sense. Even with such a low star score from me, I am still curious to see how the story plays out and might continue with this trilogy.

Noooooooooooooo , i did'nt want this book to end * Keeps clicking the 'next page' tab but there is'nt any * !!
Oh my holly molly goodness ! Wait a sec , i need to calm myself down before i start with this review . I cant even think of making proper sentences and words .. So freakin excited !
* Takes a deep breathe * Okay so now lets get on with the review :

Firstly , cover speak : Just one word , B.E.A.U.T.I.F.U.L !! It's dark , hot and sexy ! What more do you need . Honestly , one of the most alluring covers i've seen recently !

The storyline : EPIC !! I gave myself two days to get my thoughts straight and write up this review but i'm still short of words . Lets start with what this story is all about . Scent of a white rose is the story of Rose Reynolds who lost her mom in a ' freak accident ' which has left Rose and her dad kind of devastated , but rose is'nt what she seems to be , she has secrets . Secrets that could probably change one's view about her . Scent of a white rose is also the story of Christian , Rose vampire boyfriend . He has his secrets too , secrets that can change his relationship with Rose , will it ??
Scent of a white rose according to me was a very fast and compelling read .. Such a page turner , i couldnt stop myself from reading it in a day . Every chapter left me with my jaws dropped . I was like . ' Oh my god , no this cant be happening ! ' or ' Whaaaat , no waay !! ' . I was on the edge of my seat all the time .
What i really loved about this book was its story telling technique . Being the leading lady , it was good to see that the whole story was not told from Rose's point of view . The POV's would shift from Rose to Christian , then to Christian's sire Evangeline and more . It was refreshing to see the story from different perspective's . It provided a lot of depth to the story as it was good to feel and hear wht other characters felt or heard . The book was filled with so many surprises . I loved each and every one of it .
All the characters in this story were admirable even if some were potrayed in a negative shade , they still manage to keep you hooked to the story .
The ending was absolutely brilliant . I wanted to go on reading * sighs * . The wait for the second book seems too long .

Thoughts from the book : I felt Scent of the white rose had a theme or a message , and that message for me was that every human being has a good side and a bad side . Its upto us to see which side do we favour the most . There's goodness in everyone , but if you let darkness make your choices then you will drift far away from light . It is not that you cant return but as they say once consumed by darkness its very difficult to see the light but its not imposible .

I highly recommend this book to anyone and everyone who enjoys tales of the vampire's and demons . This one's a must read ! With the twists and turns its bound to keep you glued till you reach the last page !

Here was yet another book that took me by surprise. It's been happening a lot lately and I couldn't be more excited about that fact. It's looking like 2012 will be chalk full of fantastic reads. Usually I read a synopsis and have already made judgements, we all do it and it's almost unavoidable no matter how hard we try to go into each and every read with an open mind. I'm not sure why, but although I thought this book sounded entertaining and it definitely piqued my interest, I'm not sure I was expecting to like it as much as I did. Thawer's writing keeps a steady pace that I personally enjoyed, and her characters have you relating to them as if they were your friends. She gave me background and got me involved but didn't let that slow down her plot in my opinion.

While Rose became a character I was rooting for, I'll admit to liking Christian and his "family" much more. Their stories and history were exciting and touching all at the same time. I would have liked more details into each of his "family" members but I'm optimistic that with this being the first book, the later installments will provide the information I'm looking for. And in the meantime I've found myself invested in their futures, so to speak. Thawer managed what I thought was an impossible feat. She was able to put yet another new spin on the age old vampire tale. With so many different vampire young adult books on the shelves these days I'm not sure where the creativity stems from, but her world was definitely not one I'd call a carbon copy of the others I've read and become familiar with. She made it her own and in turn made me an instant fan.

Rose and Christian and all their friends and family are faced with a unique situation that had me tense, anxious, and gripping my seat until the very last page. I'll admit that while the ending wasn't entirely predictable, I was hoping for one that was slightly different. She left her readers with a cliffhanger of course, what else would she do with two more books in the trilogy scheduled to come out, but my nerves and the romantic side of me was still crossing my fingers that a few of the loose ends would have been tied up. Oh well, I'm the reader, not the author so I'll just have to wait until the second installment, Blood of a Red Rose comes out in May 2012. That makes for a long countdown but I'm hoping a few teasers might come out in the meantime to keep my nerves in check.

So I started Sent of a White Rose after dinner yesterday, and I got so into the story I kinda skipped going to bed when I should have and instead finished the book and really really wanted to start the next book but since I had to be up in 4 hours (aka 4:00 am) I forced myself to wait. I thoroughly enjoyed Sent of a White Rose!

The transitions between characters were great. Not only were they smooth and picked up where other POV ended, it allowed the reader to gather background information and reasoning to the characters actions in a unobtrusive and natural way as well as letting the reader know what was happening else where in the story that wasn't at the main location and or main characters.

This is a story about Rose after her mother was murdered and dealing with her over protective father, being the innocent little girl everyone thought she was, tried to become something for the love of her life (Christian) and finds out that it may never happen because of what was revealed about her heritage from the person that murdered her mother and gaining her freedom but not in the way she would have liked.

Christian is a vampire, but not the kind of vampire that most stories are based off of. I really like the different take on these vampires, them being light only taking blood that they need to survive and not killing people. And if a vampire goes permanently into the dark it is the responsibility of the Sire to administer the True Death. Christian is in love with Rose and will do anything to for her, the only thing is that he isn't allowed to let her know he is a vampire. In this story he struggles with odd happenings and trying to be with Rose without him telling her what and who he truly is and connecting with Rose around the overbearing rules of her father.

I cannot wait to read the next book!!!

Actually 3.75 stars

Rose Reynolds is wallowing in the loss of her beloved mom who was killed by burglars in her home. The police are baffled since their only clues are puncture wounds on her neck and her body was drained of blood. Now six months have passed and Rose's father is dealing with his grief by being overprotective of his 20 year old daughter, Rose is ready to get back to her budding romance with nightclub security, Christian.

Uppermost in Rose's mind are taking things farther with Christian and her desire to be an adult making her own decisions. Christian's thoughts are firmly on wanting to share his secret and his life with Rose and stray thoughts of the changes going on in his clan. There was a bit of chemistry between Rose and Christian, but I believe her character more invested than his. (But not by a lot.)

The supporting characters lent their wide range of skills to feed the leads as the mystery of Rose's mother's murder, her father coping, Rose growing and a good foundation for the vampire lore. While the mystery is resolved quickly by cynical minds, the journey for the answers is intricately done making it more fun for the reader. So were the rules of this vampire world.

For this reader's taste the writing wasn't compelling but it was adequate with an interesting enough idea and good pacing to watch the characters develop in this origin story. The vampires in this world 'turn dark' though they can go in daylight. Tackling the elephant, there's enough similarity to a certain other popular read to remind you of it, but there is also enough distance for this read to be its own tale.

This is the first book in a brand new series and I couldn’t put it down. The author Tish Thawer weaves an amazing tale of vampires, love, lost, and secrets.

Rose is a 20 year old college student who has lost her mom due to a freak accident. She was killed by a vampire Rose thinks but the truth is a lot more difficult for her to accept. Her dad has gone in total over protected mode due to the loss of his wife and it’s driving Rose crazy. She has to sneak around to see her boyfriend Christian who is a vampire. Christian doesn’t think Rose knows his secret and he’s not allowed to tell her or feed from her since he’s in love with her. But what Christian doesn’t know is that Rose knows his secret and wants to spend eternity with him.

This is a definite page turner so be prepared to not be able to do anything while reading this amazing book. Tish Thawer is a new author to keep your eye on. Her books are going to be the next great thing. The story line and characters are fresh and new. Yes it is has vampires in it but Tish makes them different than any another book I have read in this genre. If you want an amazing love story filled with sexy vampires, secrets, and a plot that had me going WHAT?! Than you need to read this book ASAP.

This book I found was a short book, but this is only compared to books I’ve read recently :)

I love Christian. He is a walking sex god ;)

Rose is a 20 year old adult, who has lost not only her best friend, but her mother to a recent tragedy. Well this is perceived as a tragedy but Rose has her doubts.

She seems to be smothered and kept hidden from the world by her very protective father.

We learn in the begging of the book that Christian is a vampire.

I enjoyed reading about the coven of vampires.

Seeing their closeness, there a family… something that not a lot of vampires show but they all did and it make them seem more humain.

I like the twists that Tish Thawer puts on the vampire legends. The way that she built this story line was very well done.

I aways love that authors write the chapters in different P.O.V’s.

This is definitely a good read, although it is short.

I must say though that I didn’t feel like “Love” between Christian & Rose was legit, maybe it’s because we don’t know much of how they met, but please don’t put a grudge against me for that as Tish has wrote a short Novella “Roses & Thorns” which shows us how Rose & Christian become as one :)
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I was given this book free in exchange for an honest review. Rose Reynolds, a young woman who's mother died mysteriously is in love with Christian. They both have their secrets. Christian is a vampire. Under the rules of the coven, he cannot let Rose know what he is, but unbeknownst to him she already knows. Rose still lives at home with her father while she goes to college. Since her mother's death, her father has kept an extremely tight leash on Rose (she must be home by dark, her father's driver takes her everywhere etc). She and Christian can only meet occasionally due to these restrictions, but she has the help of her friend in order to make these meetings happen. Life continues this way while Rose chafes under the rules of her father and unknown to the coven, plots to become a vampire so that she can be with Christian all the time.

I like the twists that Tish Thawer puts on the vampire legends. The way that she built this story line was very well done. There is plenty of suspense as the coven is placed in danger due to demon blood. There are many steamy scenes so this book is definitely not for younger readers.

I really enjoyed this book. It had good mystery and suspense build up. There were things happening in the book that you wouldn't be expecting. I just wish that there was more going on between Christian and Rose in the story. I feel like I didn't know why they liked each other besides the physical attraction. I mean I liked Rose because she reminded me of myself with her independence and she had a fiery attitude that I like in female characters. Christian kinda felt like another Edward to me. I feel like this can and will be a good series as long as Christian has more of a character development in the next few books or however many that may follow. But I do like where the story is going. There was just enough to leave you lingering for the next book. I also didn't feel like there were too many things unsolved and that (unlike some authors) Tish will give us the answers to our burning questions in the next book or so. I also feel like I will like the sequel and will try to get a chance to fit it into my mega long book list.

I really am addicted to paranormal romances and so can't miss this one out.
Scent of White Rose..is definitely an interesting read ...it has it's own share of Secrets,Mysteries n Romance.
Christian is a vampire and meets Rose n they start loving each other...All he want is rose to join his clan n spend the eternity with her.
Rose is still coping up with her mother's untimely n mysterious death and an overprotective father..all she wants to do is escape from him join christian.

But the biggest mystery is not christian being a vampire and hiding it from rose..Because rose has her own secrets and now she is drowned in them.

It was a very interesting read with all the suspense and mystery.Especially the ending..
Though i didn't really mind reading it from different POV's it was kind of annoying too..as i am used to reading the first person POV for a long time.

The writing was good and so is the story n how it was progressed...A good read for sure..especially for a debutant!
On to read the next one in few :)

When you start with a sweet, human, and college-aged heroine who meets her "soul mate" (him being a hot and considerate vampire), you have the beginning of Scent of a White Rose by Tish Thawer. This is my first book by this author and have to say it was hard to put this book down (only did because I had to go to work). It is apparent to the reader that when humans and vampires are involved, there are secrets that need to be shared but not always as planned. This book definitely is the foundation for the rest of the series with plenty of interesting secondary characters who slowly reveal their own motives and secrets. There are some twists on the vampire lore in this book and like that the author added different characteristics. Am happy that I aleady purchased books 1.5 and 2 - book three will be out in September 2012. Highly recommend this book and can actually picture it in a movie format.

Rose and Christian are madly in love, sounds perfect doesn't it except for the fact that Rose is human and he is a vampire. This book is very different, there is no love triangle, no instant attraction (thank god) as these two have been in love for ages. Rose is not aware that Christian is a vampire and that a new Sire is being chosen soon. Christian loves Rose so much that he wants to petition the new Sire to change her so they can be together forever. There is only one problem with this happily ever after story, there is more to Rose than meets the eye. She recently lost her mother in a freak accident, her dad has started dating someone who looks just likes her mother and Rose knows that Christian is hiding a secret. Little does Rose know but her secret could destroy their relationship and will put all their lives in danger. In a world where vampires and demons abound, things are about to get very complicated for these two star-crossed lovers.
