When an old friend’s husband goes missing, she calls Cindy for help. Fresh from her own tragedy, Cindy returns to the Caribbean, this time to the gorgeous, lush island of Grenada, to find him. Cindy, still grieving her own husband’s death, stays at her friend’s incredible villa on the ocean, as she does her best to help track down her friend’s husband, Ames. As Cindy investigates, she meets the different characters on the island, some local, some fantastically rich, all of whom seem to be involved with each other, either romantically or in shady business dealings. As Cindy uncovers secret affairs, odd money dealings and drugs, she realizes there is a complex web on the island, hidden from public view. And as she digs deeper into Ames’ life, she is shocked to discover how many secrets he had been hiding from his wife—and that she never really knew the man she loved. The police at first refuse to take her seriously, but they soon gain respect for her tough intelligence, courage and determination. Cindy’s relationship with one cop in particular, Mattheus, develops in unexpected ways, as they give each other solace from their losses. But Cindy digs too deep. Soon, she finds her own life in peril, as she heads into the dark underside of the island. Startling developments in the investigation lead to a shocking ending, as a body is discovered, and Cindy alone must find out if they’ve convicted the wrong person… DEATH BY DIVORCE is Book #2 in the Caribbean Murder series, following DEATH BY HONEYMOON (Book #1). Book #3 in the series--DEATH BY MARRIAGE--and Book #4 in the series--DEATH BY DESIRE--are now also available.
Jaden Skye has always been fascinated with mystery, wrongful death, lies, deception and the power of the truth to prevail. Her romantic suspense/mystery novels feature strong female protagonists who must overcome insurmountable obstacles, and through them, she seeks to get to the very heart of the nature of justice and love.
Her first three novels, DEATH BY HONEYMOON (BOOK #1 IN THE CARIBBEAN MURDER SERIES), DEATH BY DIVORCE (BOOK #2 IN THE CARIBBEAN MURDER SERIES)and DEATH BY MARRIAGE (#3 IN THE CARIBBEAN MURDER SERIES) are now available on Amazon, Barnes & Noble elsewhere. An interesting mystery, I found Death By Divorce to be a more solid book all round than the first in the series. In this novel Cindy travels to the island of Grenada to help a devastated friend, whose husband has gone missing. As Cindy goes around investigating, much to the bemusement of the local police, she unearths some surprising secrets, and finds that her own life is in danger.
I'm glad I persisted with this series. Cindy is proving to be a tough, resourceful heroine, and the Caribbean Murder series are the epitome of good beach reads, with the tropical setting of the beautiful islands taking a starring role.
I enjoyed the first book in this series but not this one so much. The story was good but went off the deep end with Cindy's friend Dalia. Since I hate spoilers I'm not going to mention details but it was too far-fetched to be believable. The other problem I had with this book was the grammar. OMG! Doesn't anyone proof read these books? The first book only had one or two typos but this book was saturated with errors and I'm not one that can easily overlook them. Jaden, please proof your books!
I really like this series. It's a quick, easy read. How ever there are a lot spacing errors in this book. Almost to the point where it's distracting to read the story. Makes me wonder if anyone proof read this book. I got the first three books for free. Going to read the third book hoping for less errors.
A very enjoyable story. It’s a very long time since I read the first book, Death by Honeymoon, and I’m sorry it’s taken me so long to read the follow up. I’ve got a good few more in the series to read and my appetite has beeping whetted again reading this story.
The death of Cindy’s husband is about six months ago and she is obviously still quite raw. Nonetheless she accepts a request from a former school pal to go to Grenada where the friend lived in order to help find her missing husband.
The friends husband is very well known on the island and apparently well liked and their marriage is idyllic according to Cindy’s friend.
Is everything as it seems.
I will say this is an easy read and doesn’t include graphic or gratuitous violent scenes. I liked the easy pace of the book, not necessarily gripping but engaging and you can visualise yourself right there in the Caribbean beach.
Cindy might be the most boring “detective” ever. The police basically solved everything besides who killed Ames even though the first suspect is always the spouse. The police mentioned literally everyone else being the suspect besides Dalia. The book was poorly written and left things without an answer like: who threw the rock in Cindy’s window and what did Rosa have to tell Cindy? The pace of the book was so slow for the first 17 chapters and then in the last 3 everything was rushed. Cindy is always shocked, surprised, shivering, shuddering, alarmed, and horrified. She does no research to be this amazing journalist. Everyone basically gives her a checklist of things to do and then are suprised she gets answers. She doesn’t get any answers from her job of being a journalist, but she gets answers because the plot needs her to have the answers. I disliked the first book yet still decided to give the second book a chance. If Cindy had a catchphrase it would be: I had no idea. She’s a journalist that knows nothing. Will not be continuing the series.

DEATH BY DIVORCE by Jaden Skye Caribbean Murder Series book 2 My all time favorite in books, is this series, how many times I have read the whole series 5-6 times. It is great, memorable to say the least, it's about Cindy and the cop Mattheus. It deals with murder in the Caribbean. The real jewel is it deals with family, past lost, emotions. It follows the lives of Cindy and Mattheus thru the whole series. Read one or all, you will throughly enjoy this series. Series of 16, first to the last, all are great stories.
Hearing how Cindy solved her own husband's death Dalia a high school friend begs Cindy to come down to Grenada to help find out what happened to her husband, Ames. He’d gone missing three weeks before. Ames lived a varied life with mistresses and a greedy ex-wife. He had a partner and a fired sea captain of his shipping fleet with suspicions of drug trafficking. A lot of suspects.
Mattheus, one of the cops from the island tries to send her home yet helps in her search.
Others complain of the editing on these books. I listened on audio and didn’t find it troublesome.
This one was a quick read. Although, I listened to it while I worked. The story line was easy going and the characters where established. Because of the easy going story line, there were some things that I felt were not completely taken care of - for instance, the split personality. I was happy when Mattheus appeared - he is my favorite character in this series.
Good read. I think the grammar was a little off and could do with another check before it was actually printed for sale. Also, felt like the end was a little rushed. There was so much working up to finding the killer only for you to get about 10 pages on finding who actually did and solving the crime. Kept me interested in the book but other than that not much else.
Cindy answered dalia's plea to come back to the islands to help find her husband that had been missing for 3 weeks. When she got there so knew right off that dalia was off, but thought it was from stress. As time went on the missing clues started coming together and more important the things that wasnt said made the case.
I started this series as a summer reading series and I am loving it. The books are quick east reads. The characters are interesting and somewhat mysterious. The plots always have a twist at the end. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
I enjoyed reading the first book in the series, so I decided to read the next one. Didn't like it as much as. Read the first two chapters of the next book, not sure I will read it. Looks like they all be bashful the same.
This book was bundled with the first in the series. The heroine goes to Grenada at the request of an old school friend whose husband has disappeared. I learned little about the island, and less about its people, and there isn't much of a mystery, the title giving away what little there is.
The story line is okay, but my goodness, this author needs a better editor! So many errors that could have been avoided had someone taken the time to proofread!
This book had the potential to be a solid 4.0 maybe even higher however, it lost points for the horrible editing and punctuation!! I knew the first book had problems and I overlooked them because, well, it was her first book and we all have to learn from our mistakes. She didn't learn by book 2. The punctuation is just atrocious.....seriously. Quotation marks were backwards or inserted in the wrong place and the commas!! Sweet Lord have mercy but there were so many in the book that I thought maybe she had a twitch in her "comma" finger and it kept hitting the key without her realizing it. Seriously, seriously bad. I'm usually not one to critique too harshly on editing because every book is going to have an error or two - plus I don't want that to take away from my enjoyment of the story so I ignore most - but that just couldn't be done with Death by Divorce. I actually caught myself counting how many commas were on a page before I even began to read it.
In addition to punctuation issues, there were also some gender change up issues. For example she was writing about a "smiling man" whom she referred to as "she" in the same sentence and then again before the paragraph was over. Now, I know we have this transgender thing going on and I'm cool with that but I kind of like to simplify things in my head when I am reading - so was it a smiling MAN or was it a smiling SHE - or was it a man-she smiling or a smiling she-man?? See, now you're confused!
The writing could be a little immature at times and made Cindy seem like a dim-witted high school girl. For example, after meeting Mattheus one time (and he treated her a coldly at that meeting), "she was glad he was coming to pick her up and forgot about changing into a professional outfit." Huh? She was so excited about seeing someone who treated her poorly on their first meeting that it caused her to forget to change her clothes?? (Oh, and let's not forget that her deceased husband has only been gone less than 6 months).
OMG, this one I love: "Ames has been missing 3 weeks and 8 days." No, seriously, that's what it said.....3 weeks and 8 days. I'm not sure about other people, but I usually call that 4 weeks and a day. ROFLMAO Sorry, I just had to reread that one several times then go get a drink before I could keep reading. It was awesome!
Ok, ok, enough about the things that drove me crazy (and gave me a good laugh at times). The reason I gave this book 3 stars instead of 1 is because I love the concept of the book. I loved crazy Dahlia.....girl had me cracking up with her mood swings....especially the mirror part. Anyway, I love that the books are set in the Caribbean and we get a taste of different exotic locations. Oh, and I love the authors name.....Jaden Skye just rocks.
Now, after reading my review you would probably think I would never read another "Death by..." book again but that is not the case. I already own all but 4 and I plan on reading every one of them.....maybe not back to back because then I might become homicidal trying to get through all the editing issues and end up having the next book named for me, "Death by Commas".....but I will read them. They are just fun in their own crazy way and they are fast, light reads. Plus, I want to see how the characters of Cindy and Mattheus develop and, most importantly, I want to watch how the author grows in her writing. I don't know why, but for some reason I have faith that this writer will only improve with each book - I only hope her comma finger loses its twitch and I see less and less of the little suckers before I get to the last book in the series.
An old friend of Cindy's heard she solved her husband's murder and calls her to ask her to help find her missing husband.
Cindy flies to Grenada to investigate and meets Mattheus, a police officer. Together they start to unravel the secrets and Cindy finds herself in danger from the underworld of the islands.
I wrote a general review of the first three of the DEATH BY...".series by Skye on the Death by Marriage page. If you would like to know my thoughts on all three, you may visit the Death by Marriage page on Goodreads. In a nutshell, I loved them. I recommend them to anyone who loves a good mystery, even if it's not written by Connelly, Childs, Baldacci, etc. Skye presents mysteries with a twist to them that are unexpected. I like that.
#2 in the series. Slow start. Luckily it wasn't too long of a book so I was able to get through it fast. I will read #3, but in no hurry to do so. When Cindy's husband is killed on their honeymoon and she helps solve the crime, her friend think she can solve the disappearance of her husband. Very weak story.
The errors distract from the story which isn't very deep to begin with. This book starts the trend that all the "villains" have some sort of psychological disorder although what exactly is wrong with them, is never specified.
This book is a pretty quick read, I finished it in a night.
I thought the plot was interesting and I liked hearing about Cindy again. There was suspense which was good and I liked the plot twist at the end. The grammar mistakes were a bit annoying but overall it was an okay book
Really enjoyed the second story-maybe more than the first because I just felt so sad for Cindy losing her husband. I enjoyed the beginning of a new love interest. Can't wait to start the 3rd book.
I enjoyed the story & love books set in the tropics. I was disappointed with the number of text errors. (Missing letters in words or a random letter between 2 words) Maybe these will be corrected in an update? -Anyway I enjoyed the story.
I really enjoyed it yes they were spelling mistake and bad grammar but I loved it any way . The setting on the islands really draws you in and makes you want to go the the beach
