Those who are familiar with the music scene in Singapore know that it is not easy to 'make it' or even to 'crack it'. Dick Lee is a cultural icon in Singapore. He has pushed the boundaries to create a Singapore sound and it could be said that he was the only one who has successfully done so in his time. There is a lot of sound advice, neat tricks and tips that Lee shares in this book.

If you're looking for a career in the creative industry, look no further as Lee will be your personal mentor vis-a-vis the book. He does not shy away from the messy parts of the industry nor does he glamorise what the business is actually like. There is a rebellious streak to Lee that I admired and I applaud his ability to go after what he wants, even when it does not work out.

When the odds are stacked against you, you will do what it takes to be the best you can be. This is an excellent read that one that no aspiring singer or songwriter should ever miss. Lee's versatility as an artist is what has earned him the place as Singapore's favourite composer.

An insightful read on the entertainment industry, particularly the entertainment industry of Singapore. It is a personable memoir. Dick Lee is open about his flaws and mistakes. At the same time, he does not shy away from his achievements. He is a genius of the Singapore music scene and this book is a must-read for all aspiring Southeast Asian artists, especially for those looking to understand the music business and how it works.

This book offers a lot of advice for people looking to start a music career and what that means on a practical level. The early part of the book is about his childhood and then the book branches into Dick Lee's very long and prosperous career in the entertainment industry. It is a fascinating read.

It is indeed quite witty and very funny the way he wrote about his life and childhood but when he got to the peak of his career around 3/4 into the book, there was too much fancy terms of artists, musicals, radio broadcasting and such for me to take on. He's definitely a talent and I love the songs he's created especially in recent years. Good to have an insight on his background and the hurdles he has met.
