On All Hallows’ Eve, the night when the veil between the living and the dead is as thin as a soap bubble, Will McCurty, a knee-deep-in-average high school kid, discovers he has an incredible destiny.
A psychic ability passes to the firstborn in each generation of Will’s family. His older brother is about to become a powerful medium. He’ll bridge the veil to In Between allowing troubled spirits to use his body and his voice. In order to survive being possessed, every Bridge needs a partner, a Keeper.
The Keeper controls frantic ghosts so they don’t abuse the Bridge’s body, calming them enough to find out why they’re stuck In Between. If all goes well, Bridge and Keeper then set things right in this world so the soul can pass on to the next. If all goes well.
Will has a choice that night. Becoming his brother’s Keeper would mean he has to harbor secrets, lie to his best friend, and break his mother’s heart.
But it’s that or abandon his brother to the desperate dead.

BridgeKeeper was such a fun read! L.S. Moore takes the reader on an exhilarating ride with an awesome brother duo and more importantly, ghosts. I really felt like I was there in every graveyard that was visited by the brothers and was on the edge of my seat. I am glad I read it during spooky season and I am itching for the next book!
This book creates an imaginative world with believable characters. It's fast-paced with some surprising twists which suck you in and makes it a joy to read.
Pretty solid book. You can’t go wrong with this one! I thoroughly enjoyed it from start to finish, and I was surprised to find out that Bridgekeeper is L.S. Moore’s debut novel! Looking forward to more good reads from her soon!
Now, moving on to the book itself, it has an interesting plot and character cast. However, I would think that BK should have been categorised as a teen/“tween” novel instead that can be targeted towards ages 12 and above. The concepts present in BK are not hard to understand and I don’t see anything wrong that stops this book from being pushed onto a younger audience.
Bridge keeper is such a treasured find in the library since nowadays most YA novels are… yeah… With a lesser known genre, BK is a breath of fresh air from the usual “romantasies” that have recently populated the shelves of your nearest bookstore. Really, I feel that BK is a satisfying read to pass your time this spooky season! I truly wish there were more like L.S. Moore’s work that others could enjoy as well.
Next, the ending is able to wrap its plot up rather nicely while leaving space for a possible sequel which I do hope for. Bridgekeeper explores haunting sites and memories that stir up a variety of emotions.
I liked it, but still feel as if there is something missing.. I don’t know though, just going with gut feeling.
From a newfound fan of L.S. Moore, 3.7 ⭐️, rounded up to 4⭐️ !
A great new read for teens and adults! Suspenseful with a fascinating premise—helping people who have died. This gifted author creates such plausible explanations and situations that the reader easily buys in to this paranormal situation, especially since the “afterlife” intrigues us all. The brothers are likeable, engaging, and realistic with the younger 16-year-old Will acting as narrator. Varied, well-developed characters elevate this novel to appeal to older readers as well as teens. Rating 4.6.
BridgeKeeper is a very welcome addition to the regrettably small number of books for young adults that feature male main characters. The fast pacing makes for a true page-turner, and I really enjoyed watching the brothers become more and more supportive of each other as the risks turned into a life-and-death situation. Also, the paranormal universe Moore created is quite sophisticated and believable. It’s a great read!
BridgeKeeper is a gripping tale of two brothers bound together in their struggle to control their newfound paranormal powers in an attempt to solve a murder, rescue a missing girl, and free a tortured soul from the In Between. A fascinating premise and a great read. Can’t wait for the next adventure of the McCurty boys!
A fast-paced supernatural mystery thriller interspersed with the relatable every day struggles of being in high school. I read the whole thing through in one sitting. Gripping story, gritty, heart-pounding action, and a touch of believably awkward high school romance. Great read!
Reminding a bit of that famous series, Supernatural, this tale takes two brothers into the realm of ghosts, murderers, and action pure.
Will is sixteen, talented at martial arts, and despite some family issues due to his dad's death years before, okay with life and takes it how it comes. That is, until one night his older brother is nearly hit by a car thanks to the appearance of their grandmother's ghost. Will's nineteen-year-old brother has known about their destiny to deal with the dead, but to say that Will is totally broad-sided is an understatement. His brother is a Bridge, a very strong medium, and needs a Keeper, a person to physically protect him by every means...which Will agrees to be, since he'd never fail his own brother. As Bridge and Keeper, they are to help the dead with problems, which keep them from crossing over into the afterlife. But while other Bridges and Keepers deal with 'easy' things such as finding wedding rings, fate has something else in mind for the brothers.
I enjoyed this read so much more than I thought I would. The story is pretty straight-forward but still carries the needed twists and turns to keep those pages turning. The author does a good job at bringing across Will's situation naturally and lets his uncertainty, mistakes, and frustrations shine...without demeaning him as a character. He has a lot on his plate, especially with his brother's life as his main responsibility. This causes issues with friends, already-stressed family, and daily life. But this isn't a book about teen drama, by any means.
There are several plot layers running at once, and these weave in and out with each other nicely. Many characters are involved, but this never grows confusing. Each one has its purpose and place, and fits right in. The beginning of a large arc, which will, obviously, run through the series, is also set, and this neatly umbrellas the main plot of this first book, which is tense and gripping all on its own. There's danger, tons of tension, mystery, spooky moments, magic, ghosts, family issues, brotherly love, a touch of romance, and so much more. All of this forms an easy read, which flows by quickly and draws in from beginning to end, while keeping the reader at the edge of their seat. There are some items, which popped in with a bit of thin backing, but with so much going on and speeding along, these didn't hurt the fun in the least. I read this one in one sitting because I didn't want to put it down.
I'm very much looking forward to see what adventures this pair of brothers will have next. I received a DRC through Edelweiss.
WOW. I am actually speechless. I was not expecting this to be grab-me-by-the-collar-and-refuse-to-let-me-go AMAZING.
This was one of those cases where an unknown author reached out to me and offered me a book for review, which I say “no” to 99% of the time. I did some research before accepting, but I still wasn’t expecting to be blown away.
I. Am. Blown. Away.
The hook that got me here was an author writing YA Fantasy with male protagonists and a story revolving around brotherhood. I want to see more of that (done well and without toxic undertones) for my boys, so I read this with guarded hope and it far surpassed my expectations.
Yes, we have brother MCs, yes they share an incredibly close bond, yes there’s action and fighting scenes, but ALSO we have sensitive navigation of masculinity and two very non-toxic protagonists who are using new powers they don’t yet understand to bring an abusive man to justice. There’s also ghosts, cemeteries, complex family dynamics, and hints of a much deeper supernatural world to come.
This book left a door definitively open for more to come, and I am telling you, I WILL BE WAITING ON THE EDGE OF MY SEAT! This was a bit more thriller/mystery (some intense scenes had me skimming ahead to make sure everyone was going to be okay) than I usually pick up, but I think that’s exactly what will make my reluctant reader love this when he’s a bit older. I LOVED these characters and the world the author is building for them. Their voices are so well-developed and authentic— I could see my boys in these brothers, but more to the point, they became real to me and I was completely invested in their journey. I also kept thinking what a great tv series this would make all the way through. I'd watch the crap out of that show.
This was one of the first books I won on Goodreads, but as I'm not a huge fan of books with fantasy themes it was on my TBR for a while. I wish I would have read this sooner, though.
L.S. Moore did a great job of making the characters relatable and likable.
The story starts at a karate dojo with Will facing an opponent that he isn't sure he can beat. This opponent comes back to play a huge role in the story later on.
When Will and his brother Seth encounter their grandmother they haven't seen since their father's death, the story starts to unfold. We learn that Will and Seth are the Keeper and the Bridge, respectively. Meaning, they can speak to those who are stuck in the "in between".
Throughout the story, you learn more about their dead father's past with his Keeper, Marcus, who shows up to their mother's dismay. You also learn more about Will and Seth's childhood, and how some of their friends and their families knew more about their dad's past than they let on.
I gave this book 4 out of 5 stars, only because I feel like it ended without wrapping up a big part of the story (the dark entity their dad has been battling in the in between since his death) that should have been finalized. Otherwise, this was a great book. I wish there was a second book with more of their BridgeKeeping adventures.
"BridgeKeeper" is the debut paranormal YA from author L. S. Moore. It was the perfect read for my October "spooky" reads collection and I'm so glad I picked up this book.
Definitely grab "BridgeKeeper for a well-constructed paranormal mystery with ghosts, graveyards, and two brothers learning to accept and embrace their inherited psychic powers while tracking down a killer before he takes another victim.
Author L.S. Moore has crafted compelling characters, the stand-outs being the MCs -- the McCurty brothers. When they learn of their unique inheritance and how it ties them to each other, their lives won't ever be the same. Overall, it's a solid story, intriguing, and well-written. I like that while the ending successfully ties it all up, I do get the feeling there's room for a sequel. And I would definitely pick up the sequel to BridgeKeeper if/when we get one.
Realistic and sympathetic main characters, true villains, great world building, plus lots of action make this a must-read for teens and adults. Two brothers work together to help restless ghosts with unfinished business leave our world through "the veil." Because the main characters are male, this book would especially appeal to teenage and adult male readers. Sometimes funny, sometimes intense, and often scary, this book is hard to put down.
First, when I opened the package to pull out the book...the smooth and shiny cover just drew me to it. I kept running my hands over the book...weird and fascinating.
This book was SO GOOD. Not solely a unique concept, but so well done and engaging. It ended in a way that could open further opportunities and I am there for it!
Loved this young adult story of two brothers, Will and Seth, who work tandem talking to people who have died but are unable to pass on from the "In Between" - the living world and the afterlife. Mix in a young teenage Wiccan, and you have a story that moves quickly towards a satisfying conclusion. I hope there are many more adventures in store for the two brothers.
I just finished reading BridgeKeeper. It is so much fun, I finished the second half in one afternoon. It's a page-turner! I can't wait until the second book comes out to see what happens next.
