Various is the correct author for any book with multiple unknown authors, and is acceptable for books with multiple known authors, especially if not all are known or the list is very long (over 50).

If an editor is known, however, Various is not necessary. List the name of the editor as the primary author (with role "editor"). Contributing authors' names follow it.

Strictly Off the Record, published by Murderous Ink Press, London, is a collection of witty, mysterious stories by 18 short story authors. The authors have contributed to the writing world in many ways, full novels and shorts, award winners and notables amongst authors. Each story has a twist on 'strictly off the record'. You'll be surprised what people don't want you to know...or perhaps you'll be shocked by what you learn. A great gift for the subway rider, for a quick read while waiting. The stories will linger though. Hates off to Editor John Connor for making this a first rate collectors book.
