Terry Lowry has written a book that would be worthy of a much larger battle, very thorough. This is a detailed and well researched book that is packed with relevant information.
There are a number of maps, including notes about original park map errors and the like. There are detailed reviews of each regimental/battalion commander and the units themselves, as well as extensive first hand accounts of the action. There are many photos of participants as well. Since it is a small scale (but hard fought) battle, casualties tabulations are given down to individual soldier's names in many instances.
A very detailed account of the largest Civil War battle in West Virginia. It has several period photos and maps that really help tell the full story.
Although a small battle, compared to larger battles of the Civil War, this tells the whole story of how this was a pivotal point of the war, especially in western Virginia.
Not my taste. I thought because I have family from the area and have been to the park, I might see family members named. There was only three with surnames that were familiar. If you like military history, this book covers lots of the activity of the battle.
