You are the right person, at the right time, to do something generous.
What if you and just a handful of other dedicated, generous women could affect powerful change? That’s the question Wendy H. Steele set out to answer when she founded Impact100, one of today’s most significant grassroots organizations. In Invitation to Impact, she shares her story of creating a unique, successful giving model, as well as the stories of the amazing women who helped to make it grow, empowering you to spark change in your own community.
From Impact100’s launch to its global spread, you will follow Wendy on her path to challenging the status quo of and democratizing women’s roles in philanthropy. By illustrating how small sacrifices, when shouldered collectively, can lead to big outcomes, Wendy reveals that every person can take action to solve some of the world’s most pressing problems despite their financial or time constraints.
Between Wendy’s life story, inspirational anecdotes from regional Impact100 chapters, and current research on philanthropy patterns, Invitation to Impact demonstrates that women have an incredible capacity to transform this world for the better.
Obviously only relevant or interesting to past, present, or potential Impact100 members but there are also some general rules and insights to generosity and philanthropy. I appreciated learning more about her story and how Impact100 came to be and how it works.
The book is a sales pitch for Impact100. I had never heard of this organization and I’m sure it’s doing great things. I thought the book would be about things I can do to make an impact, not about contributing $1000 to the Impact100 organization.
Have you ever thought about becoming philanthropic or take it up a notch? Read this book to become inspired. Yes, the author is the trailblazing leader of Impact 100, and she does go into detail about her nonprofit ... and after reading this, she should absolutely do so! I was lucky enough to attend college with Wendy Steele and yet didn't know the specifics of her upbringing and life after university. Nonetheless, I was always impressed by her and figured her book would be worth reading - how right I was! She is honest and open, which is refreshing. While I have always donated both time and money, this book is motivating me to do more. You might be motivated to either join or start an Impact 100 chapter in your area. Enjoy!
I received this book for free as part of a giveaway. I am shocked to say, that I really enjoyed this book. It gave a lot of insight into the different ways women and men donate which I thought was very interesting. I also enjoyed learning about the charity platform. I wish I could afford to join a chapter myself! It also made a lot of things really stand out for me personally. The part about oxytocin and being generous and how cortisol can’t co exist with oxytocin really hit home. It is apparently why I so enjoy being generous and why I find myself gravitating towards it during stressful periods. I also enjoyed the author’s personal anecdotes! Overall very interesting and powerful!
