Exploring the Metaverse: The Hidden Dimensions of Consciousness

Rate this book
The idea of “exploring consciousness” is often associated with the recorded experiences of mystics, saints, and contemporary psychonauts.[i] Recently, however, reputable universities have begun offering programs of study in newly formed departments of “Consciousness Studies,” thus giving new impetus to a more scientific approach to the subject of consciousness.
A growing body of knowledge and new academic programs focused upon consciousness itself has led to new discoveries that directly link physics and metaphysics, science and mysticism. With the ability to explore non-ordinary states of consciousness through the judicious use of psychotropic entheogens (psychedelics substances), highly qualified scientists and psychologists have begun to take the first serious steps toward integrating knowledge of spacetime with knowledge of numerous dimensional regions that have been discovered to be beyond (or outside of) space and time.
One widespread misconception, based upon our direct, lifelong sensory experiences as human beings, is that we live primarily within the dimensions of space and time . However recent developments in cosmological physics reveals evidence that there exist multiple regions of reality, additional dimensions that appear to be beyond our familiar space and time. Yet all of these dimensional regions of the metaverse[ii] are fully interconnected.
It is assumed that our typical human senses (vision, hearing, smell, taste, touch) cannot perceive these seemingly rarified dimensions, and at first glance, it appears that these wider dimensional oceans of reality have remained hidden from the scientific community until quite recently.

[i] from the Greek ψυχή psychē [“soul”, “spirit” or “mind”] and ναύτης naútēs [“sailor” or “navigator”]—“sailor of the soul;” exploration of oceans of consciousness that lie in normally “hidden” dimensions, accessed traditionally through the means of prayer, meditation, drugs, and psychophysical exercises. Examples of 20th century psychonauts include William James, Timothy Leary, Richard Alpert, and John Lilly.

[ii] An integrated network of multiple dimensions that make up the entire whole of reality. The metaverse thus includes every virtual reality dimension open to the exploration of human consciousness.
