Riley was his, and he better remember that even if he was currently in an angel's bed and shouting someone else's name. The image made Eren see red.
Riley
While healing from Eren’s betrayal, the first nephalem in centuries will have to learn to feed, do magic, and navigate a different way of life. His new ability to pull others into his lucid dreams and view the past is powerful, but it might not be enough to save him as the war continues and the demon’s victory approaches.
Riley and Eren might have been together once in a different life, but with Eren’s toxic personality and obsession in this one, there’s no hope for anything between them. A nephalem has no place with the demons, but when Riley discovers the angel’s dark secrets, he might not have a place with them either.
Eren
He knows what true foulness is. The first of his line, known as Grandfather, still lives, and he only sees Eren as something to feed from and use. Refusal brings punishment, and Grandfather knows Eren’s worst fears.
Grandfather want’s Riley for his ability, and Eren can’t disobey the one who’s been pulling the strings since before he was born. Finding Riley is an easy promise to keep. Protecting him is another, and it may cost his life.
So Below by Julie Mannino: DARK Adult MM Demon/Angel erotica. Portal Fantasy. BDSM. Slave/Master romance. Duel POV. Angels. Investigative. Tests. Betrayal. Action. Dream-walking. Choosing-a-side themes. Political intrigue. Loyalty. Revelations.
Welcome back to the world of betrayal, corruption and where atrocities are committed in the name of the greater good. This world is messed up, but this story is still amazingly well-written, if not just as good as the first. The characters are likeable, compelling and the world building has realistic diversity.
Overall, So Below is a fast-paced erotica fantasy with learning and discovery tropes, magic training, strong secondary characters, some good explicit sex scenes, unexpected twists and turns, and a smart protagonist that's starting to stand up for himself and actually has some power to enforce his position. Riley has come a long way since the start of the first book. Eren's plot line is stressful and depressing though. It makes some stuff in the first book make so much sense. He's still morally grey though.
It ends in a cliff-hanger and I can't wait for the next book. It left me with a good feeling though. I'm optimistic; plus Mannino says it's a going to have a HEA.
How much I liked it: 4 Stars Ideas - World Building: 4.5 stars Ideas - Plots: 5 Stars Character Depth: 5 Stars Character Interaction: Above Average Animal Characterisation: Standard Non-human body language: Above Average Content Warnings/Triggers: Mentions of rape, mind rape, abuse, mentions of child rape and abuse, and mentions of torture of good people. Execution: 4.8 Stars.
If you’re into mysterious, supernatural romance, this is def the book for you. I really enjoyed reading So Below and seeing how the story progressed from book 2. The plot definitely thickens. Can’t wait for its conclusion.
This was long but I really enjoyed it. Riley was my favourite character and Eren also but not that much. If you're into lore this is definitely a book for you.
Love love loved it. Oh my God, Riley was just...I could picture those wings.
Thankfully,Riley and Eren weren't apart the whole book, and even though they were enemies. The sexual tension....ahhhh. The dinner scene was freaking amazing. I had to take a moment and fan myself. Giasone can go get poked by a pitchfork after what he did. That other person can too. I loved the switching of roles with the angels more caring of the greater good. So much for regretting the fall huh?
I can't spoil the secrets, but so much was explained and the ending made me bawl. Excuse me while I go read something fluffy to recover.
Note: I put off writing the reviews since January (again). I'm slowly catching up. So my memory will vary according to how long ago I read it and how impactful it was.
I vaguely remember bits and pieces. From my notes:
Well. While it was definitely still mediocre, it was better than the first one. The plot, at least, was here this time! So I can forgive some minor things. At least I'm intrigued by the realms, etc.
Ugh, bud bad demon is not actually bad because big bad grandpa made him do it…. 😑 Choppy writing, cringy dialogs, weird plot twists are still present and accounted for.
Author would benefit from reading Igni Ferroque that’s how dark MM romance is done.
This is a great book! Breathtaking and action filled supernatural romance had me turning the pages! I really enjoyed the character development and flow of the story!
