Seductive Sands is the second installment in Kim Faulks' exciting and sensual Fire and Ice Series. Winner of Risque Reviews Top Pick Award.
I have been an avid reader for longer than I can remember, desiring the darker, edgier works of Bram Stoker, Stephen King, Dean Koontz. I first started writing in High School giving that away when my first attempt was nothing more than dribble. I wish now that I kept at it, pursued it with a hunger that I currently possess.
Writing is my passion, it is what fuels the fires inside of me and it is an all-or-nothing furnace that keeps me up at all hours.
I am married to a wonderful supportive husband, I have 2 wonderful kids and the best friends that I have waited some 35 odd years to meet.
This is the second story in Ms. Faulks' Fire and Ice series and it picks up where Reclaimed leaves off.....
Natalie and Malik travel to the Arabian desert in search of answers about Natalie's past lives that she has begun to remember bits and pieces of. Along the way, Malik handles Natalie with care in the hopes that she will ultimately choose life with him, no matter what she may uncover of her past lives. This, of course, adds so much emotional confusion to Natalie who only wants to know why she continues to be reborn time and time again. Her search leads her to a warrior training camp in the middle of the desert and a mysterious creature of a woman who will try to bring Natalie back to her first life and remove all that she has known in the lives that have followed......including her memory of Malik.
I must admit, although I love Natalie and Malik and the overall plot, this installment of the series was a little off for me. There really weren't many questions answered, instead there were more questions raised. I am hoping that this story is leading us to the answers that Natalie (and me) are dying for in the next book. The end was one hell of a cliff hanger and I can't wait to find out where Natalie's adventure will take us!
This is a book that I have been waiting to review since I first saw the cover a few months ago. When a cover is this eye-catching, it promises an equally catchy story. Don’t forget, this is also the sequel to stunning Reclaimed. Starting with heartbreak, a snippet of back-story and questions unanswered, Seductive Sands reeled me in immediately. The emotional roller-coaster that rolled through Natalie was so well written that I felt it with her, as well as the emotions of the four most predominant characters; Malik, Makkah, Alexander and Sakhr, the latter probably being the most genuine and sweet hearted of them all, apart from Natalie herself. I shed tears with him, and felt his great heart breaking. With a cliff hanger to die for, this book left me needing more...
Not one for the faint of heart, Seductive Sands is as hot as the desert sands and as fast paced as the winds.
Book 2 was very different than the first book. Now Natalie and Malik are headed back to the same place that Natalie was deployed when she was in the army. Being back in the desert brings up bad memories for Natalie, she only hopes that the trip is worth it.
Malik wants Natalie to see what really happened, how she really died and who killed her. But are they all trying for the right reasons?
Seductive Sands - An Erotic Paranormal Thriller (The Fire and Ice Series) Kim Faulks (Author)
I was supplied with this copy by author but as always on the basis that my opinion is honestly held and not influenced by whether the book was free or paid for. Integrity of reviewers is important to me, and false reviews do no favours to authors or readers. Having read Kim's first book in the Fire and Ice series I was excited to be asked to review further books in the series. Seductive sands quickly picks up where the last book finished, seamlessly taking Natalie and Malik to Arabia where she hopes to find answers to her questions about her past lives. Natalie is still conflicted about Malik and Alexander and unsure of whether to trust them even though she feels in love with them both. They both tell stories from her past lives but of course each slants the tale in their favour. She then meets Marrah, another supernatural creature that plays on Natalie's love for her in a past life. I felt for poor Natalie here – it seems they all want the person from the past and are prepared to use the person she is now to recreate her. Natalie is strong though and manages to hold fast to the person she is now despite the trickery and magics practised on her. It seems rather than finding answers she's faced with even more questions. Once again the book is well written and edited and the story races along. I do feel though that perhaps it would have been better to have either been longer, or have less content. Its almost impossible for the reader to keep up with what events are happening and work out what solutions have been found. So far Natalie seems to go from one person to another (via some hot sex of course!!) and from one dangerous challenge to another – she barely gets time to breathe poor woman :) I do feel she appears to bed hope almost mindlessly and yet she's supposed to be a strong woman with her service/bodyguard background. I know magic is usually involved but it does seem a bit not quite right for her personality for me. She begins the first book being annoyed (rightly – he is a jerk!!) when her boyfriend is cheating and then seems to lose all sense of morality for herself. Seductive sands is a very appropriate title as not only is Natalie seduced by the creatures of the desert but the reader seduced by the unfolding tale of who Natalie really is. I'm keen to get on to the next instalment but as there is so much contained within each brief novel I felt I had to review this one first to avoid confusing the books....you certainly won't be bored reading this series and its got enough excitement and sub plots to keep the books fresh and able to withstand subsequent readings . They're my favourite type of book. Fortunately Kim also happily for me avoid the recent horrible trend of ending each book in a series on a cliffhanger – I really HATE those and now avoid buying them until the whole series is out if possible. Kim stops at a natural break in the book and lets enough from the next instalment seep in to whet the readers appetite but doesn't leave us hanging desperate for answers and feeling cheated. The book is 239kb for £1.97 so for readers who like shorter books its ideal – being a quick reader I tend to look for longer novels but not everyone wants that. Good job we all like different things :) Stars: well edited, decent price and thankfully Kim writes quite quickly so readers don't have to wait a year for each new instalment! So 4 stars from me. If it had been a bit longer which would have allowed some thought before the constant bed ( or wall or tent...) hopping I'd have gone for 4 and half, maybe five stars. I'm picky about my stars so four is very good in my view – five to me is perfection and not often achieved, but Kim has come close in this book .
Wow! This is my first time reading Kim Faulks and I must say, I am impressed! Seductive Sands is the second novella in The Fire and Ice Series and it is an all you can eat buffet of danger, suspense, adventure, paranormal romance, mystical creatures and past lives. The story is exciting, original, imaginative, thrilling, suspenseful, riveting, intelligent, romantic, arousing, sensual and steamy. The dialog is smart, crisp and flows beautifully. There are a few editing errors but overall, very well written. The characters are fascinating, captivating, engaging and sexy as sin. Natalie Sommers is a professional bodyguard. She is also a trained killer. She has completed two tours in Afghanistan and has licenses to carry five different weapons. As lethal as she is, her newest client, sexy Alexander Ash, just may be the death of her -again! Alexander Ash is a vampire and suffers the curse of his immortal life to always search for his beloved Kasia. He has found her in her present life as Natalie Sommers living in Sydney, only to have her ripped away by the Djinn, Malik who also loves and desires the lovely Natalie. Malik was the one who found her as Kasia in her original life, bloody and torn in the arms of Alexander and since, he has hated Alexander as much if not more than Alexander hates him. The hate shared by these two men is a deep seated hate born from their love of her and festering for centuries. Malik, an creature born of fire while Alexander, reborn in death and cold as ice - her fire and ice. They both want her and both are determined to have her! Natalie loves them both but knows she can trust neither but from the dark recesses of her mind, her heart reminds her that she could always trust Grayson, her ex-partner, the man who loved her but to whom she could never commit. She and Malik travel to Arabia to unravel the mystery of her past. Will she find the answers she so desperately seeks in the sands of the Arabian Desert? Will her heart finally decide which man (or creature) she truly loves? Or will seeking these answers cost her the ultimate price - her own life? Oh my! Sexy vampire-check! Handsome Djinn-check! Beautiful heroine-check! A menagerie of mystical creatures-check! Suspense, betrayal, unsuspected enemies and danger-check! Romance, love and steamy sex-Oh yeah! Faulks drew me into her web of magic and fantasy on page one and held me totally enthralled until the very last page. I loved it. I can hardly wait to read part three. Exhilarating, satisfying and entertaining!
