You need to read the original sources to fully appreciate this work - or at least that is the claim. Freeman's breadth of erudition and clarity of exposition however go a long way to make this highly readable for those of us with a less magnificent repertoire of the early Greeks. I suppose one can also assume you will have been led to the companion by your interest in pre-Socratic ideas.
