I picked this up at a book sale because I love poetry and because the book was the perfect size to fit in my hands for bedtime reading. It is a book of devotional poetry loosely based on Psalm 23. The poems were written in the 195os and have not aged well. A few of them were lovely, but others were very sing-song-y.
Sample: The Lord of earth and heaven, of all things great and small, He is my faithful shepherd; I shall not want at all. I shall not want green pastures In which my heart may rest And find, by living waters, New strength for every test.
Some were so message-laden that they lacked beauty such as this line from "Turn Not Away":
I may not give to all who ask of me The thing they ask; a sleekly gleaming knife Might please a small boy momentarily - And cause a wound that he would bear for life...
