Rock Solid: 12 Gospel Truths to live by

Rate this book
Rock Solid aims to help us get to grips with Christian truth is not just for knowing these truths in our minds. If faith is not lived out, it is worth nothing. This book explains and clarifies these important and powerful doctrines, or themes, of the Bible so that we might have the comfort and assurance that comes from them, and so that we can make our life decisions by them.

Each chapter focuses on one of these truths and includes a short Bible study and discussion questions aimed at stimulating our thinking and encouraging our action. Brief contemporary stories are also included to show how these particular truths have been used by God, either to bring men and women to Christ, or to teach them something of His ways in their lives.

This is primarily a book to be worked through. It is written in the hope that it will not simply be read straight through, but, in mens or womens groups, or informal small groups, it will be used as a means of getting a clear hold on the truths that define who we are as followers of Christ.

Vaughan came to faith as he read through Matthew’s Gospel for himself as a teenager. After studying law at Cambridge University and a brief spell doing student ministry in South Africa, he moved to Oxford to study Theology at Wycliffe Hall and has lived in the city ever since. In 1991 he joined the staff of St Ebbe’s Church to lead the student ministry and since 1998 he has been Rector. He is also the Director of the Proclamation Trust, an organisation that encourages and equips Bible teachers. In his spare time Vaughan writes books and plays cricket and golf.

This is an excellent book for encouraging and building faith in Christ and faithfulness. It is also excellent as a reboot to a flagging prayer or scripture life. It originally accompanied a Men's Bible Conference and we subsequently used it in a monthly men's breakfast Bible group. I have read it now to reboot a flagging prayer and scripture life. It consists of 12 chapters, each by an outstanding evangelical writer and speaker and each chapter contains questions to study a particular Bible passage, discussion questions for group study, a mini biography of a famous evangelist from history and a real testimony.

I cannot stress enough the value of this book or recommend it highly enough. It is perfect for both individual and group study and equally helpful for both men and women of God.
