The Five Deadly Sins Sinfully Wed Sinfully Tempted Sinfully Mine Sinfully Yours Sinfully Wanton
Kathleen Ayers has been a hopeful romantic since the tender age of fourteen when she first purchased a copy of Sweet Savage Love at a garage sale while her mother was looking at antique animal planters. Since then she’s read hundreds of historical romances and fallen in love dozens of times. In particular she adores handsome, slightly damaged men with a wicked sense of humor. On paper, of course.
Kathleen lives in Houston and is married with one college aged son and two very spoiled dogs.
A short novel that felt very, very long, which is what happens when a good idea for a book chapter is turned into a full-length novel. Every scene was insanely overwritten, from the opening where Jordan’s family is kicked out of their home by his stepbrother to Odessa’s attempts to make herself so repugnant that Jordan would refuse to marry her. She certainly succeeded in making herself repugnant, by the way. I practically recoiled from the pages of the book each time she made an appearance. The ten (fifteen? Felt like one hundred fifty) pages where she ate and discussed eating a raw onion were a penance for all the sins I’ve committed in my lifetime, but poor Jordan had it much worse when he finally arrived. He had to breathe it.
*Although the description of his being found face down in a meat pie with gravy and a pea in his hair by a solicitor didn’t exactly paint him in an attractive light either. It seems that the more disgusting the situation was, the more words of description the author lavished upon it.
Which might explain why the sweet ending only lasted a nanosecond.
Read: 6/29/23 KA can write better than this! It hurts to give her such a low score, but the love story was so mediocre.
Now, the H back story is intriguing and interesting. When Jordan's father dies, his piece of shit half-brother sends his 2nd (6memebers) family to a destitute home, while he spends all the money gambling. Ten years later, that SOB dies, and now Jordan is the new Earl. Yeah! Everything will be fine now.......NO! The SOb gambled it all and was engaged to be married to the loanshark's daughter to recoup the money. Jordan can't marry another heiress bc his half-brother's aunt has ruined their reputations.
Here comes the h: Odessa uses disguises to keep the title men her father wants her to marry at bay. One devise is eating onions and burping. She doesn't bother to get to know Jordan because he's not her choice. Odessa ruins the book. I wanted her to grow up! Jordan was perfect, but it takes too many needless chapters for her to figure it out. Then she tubs him in a carriage. That was 0-5 quickly. She was the only character who was badly and annoyingly written.
All in all, there is a great list of crazy Sinclair characters that are worth exploring. I just hope their love stories are better!

I love Ms Ayer's writing and most of her books, well, almost all of her books, but unfortunately, this one did not quite hit the mark that I have come to expect from this author. Something was missing here, namely character development, steam and romance.
Pros... - Great writing - A quick pace - Interesting plot - Great hero. Jordan really awesome - I loved his loss of temper at Odessa - Beginnings of a chemistry/ romance - Left me with a (very) small smile
Cons... - The romance felt rushed - Most of the book was about "Innovative ways to dissuade an unwanted suitor." - Sadly, it did not hit home - I did not enjoy Odessa as she appeared shallow - Most of my gripe is with the final few chapters as it was busy with too many developments and characters with minor plot points thrown in willy-nilly. - Too many "Deadly Sins..." - No steam
Did I absolutely love it? No. Will I read the next one in the series? Yes.
Fast read, vivid characters. Would have liked better if sexy times and romance started in the first 10-15 percent of book. almost 60 percent in before we get to the meaty parts. They were great when it finally took hold. H was no nonsense alpha and felt the h deserved her verbal spanking. Seriously funny and outrageous writing style 👍👍
Edited to include onion belching went on wayyyy too long. ‼️warning do not read during mealtimes
Loved the low key H who likes pigs. The h's father tries to force their marriage, while she tries silly things to get out of it. It's mix of fun, sadness and stupidity. But it's a fun read and they grew on me.
Sinfully Wed by Kathleen Ayers - while I didn't love it like I do the Barrington books - I still really liked it! I am excited to see what the other siblings get into!
I think that anytime the plot has to focus on the socially unacceptable outward appearance of one of the main characters, and particularly the female main character, it can be a tricky walk. But, Ayers pulled this off magnificently with Beatrice in The Desire of a Duchess, so she is obviously a master of this trope, and I'm willing to bet she is a master at having tact in real life as well.
The heroine in Sinfully Wed attempted to make herself unappealing by making herself appear quite large with wool padding, and she ate a raw onion and rubbed it on herself so she would smell bad. The heroine would drive suitors away with this ploy. Enter the hero.
Ayers managed to write a hero that didn't come across as shallow when presented with the heroine. It was an impressive feat. 👏
I also enjoyed how the heroine came around and her introspection.
Jordan has had a rough life, losing his father, his family being banished by his half-brother, the death of his heart-broken mother and now, after the death of his awful half-brother, he is the Earl and forced to to pay his half-brothers debt by marrying his daughter! Odessa has lived a sheltered, comfortable life, ignorant of the actual power of her father. He wants a title and Odessa is going to get him one through marriage. She has been able to scare off all the suitors with presenting herself as a smelly, hideous troll disguise…but not Jordan. He isn’t dissuaded and eventually sees through her disguise!
While the passion builds between them, they just both convince themselves to let her father win his hope of a title and give in to their feelings.
Overall, I thought it was a good book. I understand that, which it being the first in a series, most of the book was setting the stage for the whole series…explaining the circumstances of the Sinclair’s banishment, the death of his half-brother, and developing each of the sibling’s characters…and I love the premise! But I wish there had been more drama with Odessa father or with Jordan’s horrible aunt or with Odessa’s captain. Creat a little more angst and excitement. Maybe Odessa’s father discovered her disguise. Or the Captain was caught attempting to compromise Odessa. Or Jordan’s aunt was scheming. I’m hopeful that the rest of the series will be able to focus more on the individual plots than the overarching set up. Oh, and more steam!! *wink
Harsh words, anger and resentment follow the second family of the Earl of Emerson after his death. They are banished by their step-brother, the new earl, to a far estate to live hand to mouth. When their step-brother dies eleven years later, Jordan becomes the new earl with a mountain of debt left by his step-brother's extravagant life style. To survive and support his siblings and those dependent on the earldom, Jordan must marry the daughter of the moneylender who holds all the debt. Odessa Whitehall resents her father's obsession to marry her to a title. Her hilarious attempts to discourage a match had me in stitches. Unexpectedly, Jordan and Odessa fall in lust and love for each other, even though they don't want her father to win. A well played trope with passion and humor. Great read for the first book in the series. Heat level HOT!!! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book.
Kathleen Ayers has presented a terrific 5 STARS heartwarming well written Book 1 of her amazing & popular Series: The Five Deadly Sins. Yes, a wonderful informative BLURB is provided. It is a great storyline about the family by an Earls 2nd wife. Although she had been an actress & they had a huge love affair unfortunately his first wife had been bedridden for years. He had been made to marry his 1st wife as a matter for his parents, they had never gotten along, plus she did produce a self centered selfish son for his heir that her sister turned against his father. The 1st wife died and the Earl raced his very pregnant love to the alter to make sure the child would be on the right side of the blanket. They then had a healthy son soon to be followed by a daughter, then another son, a set of twin sons then a younger daughter that were all loved by there father & mother; but not by their half brother & his aunt who had called them deadly sins to the Ton.
After, being sent almost to Scotland, a town not far from there, Jordan Sinclair & siblings find out that their half brother died & he is the new Earl. It had been 11 years their Mother had died, borderline poverty, the house had a big hole in the roof, Jordan had to raise pigs & scrape for enough food for him & his young siblings to eat. Now he's the Earl, but his lousey half brother had gambled, spent, & wasted the money & properties, plus beggared the Estate they had been raised at. Then, had left his debts with a man who was a money lender who said he would forgive the debt plus provide an obscene amount of dowry for his daughter. This was non negotiable, so Jordan was a new Earl to marry a wealthy young woman, ready or not!
This was an exciting & interesting read. Miss Whitehall certainly is an interesting character & so is her Aunt. I look forward to reading about them in the future books of the series. Love the characters & look forward to the stories of each of the sins & of Miss Whitehall's Aunt (she needs a bit of romance, too).
The Earl of Emerson scandalised the Ton when he marries his mistress soon after his first wife died, they retire to the country & raise their five children. On his death his eldest son Bentley assumes the title & on the day of the funeral banishes his half siblings & their mother to the rundown estate Dunnings in Northumberland. Now a decade later Bentley dies & Jordan Sinclair, the new Earl of Emerson, finds himself in a precarious position. His older half-brother left the estate and Jordan drowning in debt. He’s been given a choice. Marry Odessa Whitehall, daughter of the very man who holds all of Jordan’s markers or become destitute. Shunned by the ton her entire life, Odessa has no interest in marrying a foppish lord just to please her ambitious father. She makes herself as undesirable as possible to each potential suitor which forces them to beg off. However, none of Odessa’s clever tactics have worked against the Earl of Emerson. He refuses to be dissuaded. The first in a new series & the Sinclairs are a delight, unconventional & outspoken, I can't wait to read all their stories. I loved Jordan who kept his family’s heads above water by becoming a pig farmer & he's willing to marry Odessa to keep the wolf from the door. I also really liked Odessa who rebelled against her father’s wishes by eating onions, wearing huge padding, tarred her teeth & ate a strawberry. Whilst intelligent she’d been shielded from who her father really was & loved how she reacted when the scales fell from her eyes. Their road to a HEA was different & very entertaining. A well written captivating series starter My review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Desire was a tricky thing. It could be caused by nothing more than the shape of a woman’s ear. Or the sight of her ankle. He could not have said exactly why Odessa Whitehall aroused him, only that she did.
A great start to a new series.👏🏼 I fell in love for Jordan Sinclair right away, as I did with the rest of the Deadly Sin family. So if nothing else, this really piqued and then kept my interest in wanting to know their stories! Even the “good” secondary characters were great. Holly, Hayden, Patchahoo, and Aunt Lottie. I hope we haven’t seen the last of them!
But I did really enjoy the story. What is lacked in emotional depth it made up for in entertainment. However comical it was to see the lengths Odessa was going through to try and have Jordan beg off their engagement, because I liked him so much I started to get a little frustrated with her. How could she not see that he wasn’t just another “entitled fop” who wanted her dowry. I get not wanting her father to make the decision for her, but Jordy was fabulous with her 💕 I wanted more romance and steam than story through! That was definitely missed by me.
Loved Aunt Lottie for, despite helping out with the ruse, not going out of her way to make it too easy for Odessa.
The villains are as to be expected in a HR romance and the ending was wrapped up a little too quickly but I’m glad Odessa didn’t throw down the martyr gauntlet too hard. Actually I think she should have attempted grovel a little bit 🤔 Not that he’d have let her.
No epilogue, but I’m sure we’ll get more of this couple in the next books so I’m ok with that, although I would have liked to see an epilogue that teased the next book, but that’s just me 🤷🏻♀️ Possibly Tamsin and Hayden?…..🤭
Jordan Sinclair, the new Earl of Emerson, finds himself in a precarious position. His older half-brother left the estate and Jordan drowning in debt. He’s been given a choice. Marry Odessa Whitehall, daughter of the very man who holds all of Jordan’s markers or become destitute.
The above review was copied from this story. 4☆ Enjoyable reading.
Kathleen Ayers writes some of the most amazing Heroes. Don’t get me wrong I like her heroines too, but the men in her books absolutely send me and Jordan was no different.
The story is so much about the expectations we carry due to our circumstances and the angst once those circumstances are upended. We never know who we’ll be until the exact moment that change happens. The book is filled with characters you’ll love and loathe, I mean really loathe, great dialogue, and a good time laid out in print about a love story that was an absolute joy to read. I wasn’t sure I’d like either main character but once I started I was absolutely hooked. I can’t wait for the next one!!
This was a delightful, quick series-starter with some steam. Jordan and Odessa’s love story was fresh and unexpected and they ended up being perfect for each other. I enjoyed the introduction to the Sinclair family, and I look forward to hearing more of their stories.
I received an ARC from NetGalley. All opinions are my own.
Parts of this book really made me laugh, and parts were just frustrating. Why, in 2023, are we still using fat suits to make people unattractive? Odessa could easily have tried to drive suitors away with just the onion/tar/odd hobbies (maybe throw in weird, unflattering clothes, strange hair, I don't know?)...it felt really unnecessary and unfortunate to make that the punchline of the joke (repeatedly). It felt really jarring and took me out of the narration.
I otherwise liked the characters and would have liked the book a lot more had that not been part of the story. (Granted, it's much less fatphobic than Forgetting the Earl by Ayers, but that is not saying much at all.) There was genuinely funny dialogue, and I enjoyed the siblings (looking forward to their books!). Overall, I wanted better for this book. I hope the next books in the series improve!
Jordan & Odessa. I'm already addicted to the Sinclair family. Another home run by Kathleen Ayers. I don't think I've been disappointed with any of her books that I've read. Any who...
Jordan and his 2 sisters and twin brothers were the 2nd family of Earl of Emerson. His father was married and had a mistress. His wife was sickly and they had one son together, Bentley. She died and his father married his mother, an actress, causing a major scandal in society. She was shunned and they moved to the country estate to live their lives happily. His father passes away in an accident and the title passes to Bentley the oldest son.
Bentley is a douchebag and hates his half siblings. He shuns them like the rest of society and never forgave their father for remarrying even though it was love. He banishes his father's wife/Jordan's mom and all the siblings to a far away estate that was barely inhabitable. His mother died within a year of a broken heart and the living conditions. Jordan had to take over the care of his family. They weren't given adequate funds to live so he became a pig farmer to survive. They were barely surviving until a solicitor shows up and informs Jordan that Bentley had died in a carriage accident trying to impress one of his two mistresses. He also informed him that the Emerson estate was impoverished due to Bentley's gambling, drinking, whoring, etc lifestyle. But it was now Jordan's problem.
There was a solution though...Bentley's debts had all be bought up by a loan shark, Whitehall, that impoverished him. Whitehall had married into the ton (bankrupted his deceased wife's father and forced him to give him his daughter) but he still wasn't accepted by society (probably because his business practices). He wanted his only daughter to marry and be accepted into society and had forced Bentley's hand. He was to marry his daughter Odessa but died before the wedding (he had planned to call it all off before he died). Jordan was given the option of just stepping right into his brother's shoes. Having no choice he agreed.
Now, Odessa may be one of my favorite FMCs I've read in a while. She had no desire of marrying a titled gentleman. Her father and her were shunned by society and she didn't want to engage with them. Her dad thought differently and kept parading titled men about to wed her off. Odessa managed to run all of them off. She would eat onions prior to any of her calls and would be burping and tooting during the call. He also padded her figure so she looked rotund and would blacken her teeth with tar to make it look like she had lost teeth. If she had to, she would go to extremes by eating strawberries and triggering an allergic reaction that made her look like she had pox. Her antics had me dying laughing but they didn't fool Jordan who's mother was an actress and they would play act including padding their figures.
Even though she was repulsive, he would call on her. At a ball, she believed him to be out of town but ran into him as herself. He already knew but his hands were tied so he continued calling. He ended up falling for her and her for him. He was everything she wanted in a man sans the title and her father's approval. She was different and he enjoyed her quirkiness.
His solicitor shows up and informs him that the land that they were banished to had an excessive amount of coal. They were rich and he had enough money to pay off his debts to Whitehall and get out of the marriage contract.
Odessa overhears her father and aunt arguing after his aunt finds out about how her dad blackmailed Jordan into marrying Odessa. She is devastated and enlists the help of her "cousin" a Duke (and a strange one at that) to clean up all of the mess. He threatens Whitehall (who most likely aided in the death of Bentley though it isn't confirmed but implied) and has the marriage contract torn up and a witnessed contract indicating that Jordan's debts had been paid. Whitehall was PISSED but Odessa was more PISSED and she leaves with her aunt to her cousin's estate. She's heartbroken and then Jordan shows up. He tells her that he didn't want out of the contract and that he loved her, quirks and all. She also tells him that she loves him.
Granted, this book didn't have as much romantic interactions as some of her other books but I don't think that hurt the book. Thoroughly enjoyed and can't wait for the next book in the series.
I received an ARC copy of this book but the above review is my own.
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I love Kathleen Ayers writing. This is my 19th book by her. I read one of her books in 2016 and picked her up again faithfully in 2019 and now she is one of my top favorite authors. I can truthfully say every book has been a fantastic read. As a matter of fact, of my over 2600 books read since 2015, she has written 2 of my all-time favorite books. (The Design of Dukes (The Beautiful Barringtons Book 2) and Wicked Again (The Wickeds Book 7).
Well, she did again with this book. I loved this couple, Jordan and Odessa. I loved their personalities and their chemistry. I love that he saw through her and understood her. I love that she finally got him. Just a great, great read. This year I am reading many new authors and not finding as good of reads as I've been used to so was really glad to read an author I love and would get a good read. It did not disappoint. One of my few favorite reads this year.
Sinfully Wed begins a new series about the Sinclair's. I loved so much about this one. Jordan is a smart, loving man. Odessa is one of the funnest FMC I’ve read in awhile. She loves true crime, ghost stories and all things related.
My only complaint? I wanted more of them as a couple. I can’t wait for the next installment and hope for more of them. ARC for honest review and my honest review was…I loved it!
What a great start to a new series! I love the Sinclair family! They aren't accepted by society and they don't really care. Jordan and Odessa were fantastic. I loved Odessa from the start. I just wish she would have given up her ruse earlier. I can't wait to read more about this family.
Sinfully Wed. Wait until you get ahold of this lively and vivacious love story that sparks between Jordan and Odessa. Another hit out of the ball park by this author. I’m always appreciative when a writer brings their readers a story that reminds you of how much you enjoy reading. We all know of writers like that right?! Well anyway. Jordan and Tamsin are my favorite characters. Jordan is absolutely fantastic. His morals are very admirable when it comes to knowing what one must do to take care of one’s family. Jordan is a man on a mission. His loyalty is to his family. Jordan’s main goal is to take care of his family. The second, address the ever haunting contract. Jordan sets out to meet a lady that he has no intention of being betrothed to. Well, you know what the say about love at first site. But wait! This one has onions and garlic attached to it, along with heavy wool fabric for extra padding. I was absolutely amused during these scenes. What was Odessa thinking?! Oh less I forget the black tar on her two upper front and bottom teeth. I’m sure Jordan, while shocked from heavy usage of onion as perfume by Odessa, was somewhat petrified of her missing teeth. I mean really. What were you thinking Odessa? I don’t know about you as the reader, but I was tickled pink. The many exciting comical moments that Odessa came up with was very fun to read. It’s to sad that these little treasures were not played on Lady Longwood or were they. Tamsin would make the most fantastic evil doer. “Bye Felicia!” I mean come on. If it was Drew and Tamsin, who would I love to be a sidekick to? I would choose Tamsin every time. It’s amazing how Jordan was able to ring her in when need be. Tamsin’s character is very Tomboyish and very intelligent. She can challenge any man to fisticuffs and come out the victor. Let’s discuss another one of Jordan’s siblings. Bentley, oh Bentley. What can I say about Bentley? Nothing, so lets move on. Did I tell you about Jordan standing before Odessa all handsome and delicious in his birthday suit, like a God. Exceptionally sculpted in all the right places. At least that’s what popped in my mind. That got me get a little warm inside. Particularly in some unmentionable places. My hormones was like, what hysterectomy? Girl how can you not get a little overheated. If you have a very over active imagination when it comes to loving a mans wonderful physic. What are you to do?! Aunt Lottie didn't have a problem what so ever. Aunt Lottie is a woman who’s a lover of a mans backside. Every moment that Jordan caught her looking at his backside, he would get the sense that Aunt Lottie was the wolf and he was the medium rare steak for the taking. I’m sure Jordan felt as though he was thrown into the circus pit of clowns and Odessa’s father, Mr. Whitehall is the ring leader. There some moments in the story where Jordan patients will be tested primarily with Odessas father. These scenes are very impactful regarding Jordan and Odessa goals. Unable to take a reprieve from the story some scenes I found jaw dropping and head shaking. Birds of a feather flock together (Bentley). The actions that Bentley and Mr. Whitehall had Jordan working overtime to maneuver plans and contracts to save all that matters to him. Odessa, her intentions and or her goals are set on a main course to a Captain. Odessa’s character is very like able, sweet and endearing. She did not walk around with her nose in the air. Odessa cared about her family and was very loyal to her father. To a point. During Odessa’s crazy antiques the romance grows between her and Jordan. Danger! Danger Will Robinson! What is Odessa to do? She panics even more while at the same time she does not listen to Aunt Lottie. You heard of the phrase, “the older you get the wiser you get?” Or is it the less you hear?” I always get the two mixed up. Well what ever it is. The point is. When the well seasoned generation offers you some wisdom, listen. It might help you one day. The romance is a overheated love affair, to which it puts some private moments in a carriage ride worth the many rounds about the park very pleasing. The stories plot was logical to the time period and connecting with culture back then. Even though Jordan and Odessa’s motivational goals moved in opposite directions, their actions provided much entertainment to what the story shares with the reader. The characters are charming and exciting. Their emotions and their actions provides the intensity, raw feelings and compassionate feelings to the plot. The story stays fresh and appealing to the end. So, yes this a page turner that is easy to read. There are moments that are funny and there are moments that are enduring. The writer focuses her point on a persons love for their family. What would you do? The story is engaging, emotional and romantically sweet. I give this book two snaps and a, “Holly bring me some steak sauce. Uhh. Miss Lottie you might have to wait on that steak sauce for another hundred years.” Until next time my fellow readers… read on! I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Sinfully Wed by Kathleen Ayers is a funny book about two people who are determined not to wed. Jordan has accepted his fate, but his bride to be, Odessa, refuses to and the lengths to which she goes to get him to cry off are hilarious, as is his response as he begins to notice her machinations. Jordan and his siblings were his father’s second family and upon his death, the new earl, their half-brother, Bentley, relegated them to a rundown manor house as far north as one could go and still be in England. The place had holes in the roof. Bentley provided them a pittance to live on and refused to pay for a doctor’s care when their mother became ill and subsequently died. Jordan did what he could, earning money by raising pigs. He was not particularly kind to the solicitor who came to give them the news of Bentley’s death, although the man turned out to be a good friend to the family. Among other things he inherited his brother’s betrothal to the daughter of a man who held most of Bentley’s debts, of which there were many, and offered a huge dowry, which Jordan and his family needed desperately. He was determined to marry Odessa, no matter what. She presented him with a hilarious disguise to discourage him as well as disgusting personal habits. He refused to be discouraged. Then he discovered her ruse.
This was a totally amusing piece of fiction. Call it a romantic comedy Regency-style. Of course, things worked out in the end but the journey was fabulous. It is not often a Regency romance makes one laugh. Ayers offered the reader interesting characters above and beyond the two main ones. She also offered revenge, which is always worth the read. The plot was all about thwarting Bentley, despite the fact he was dead, as well as Odessa’s father, who was a greedy and underhanded man. I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book and laughed out loud multiple times. Thanks Kathleen Ayers!
I was invited to read a free e-ARC of Sinfully Wed by Dragonblade, through Netgalley. All thoughts and opinions are mine. #Netgalley #Dragonblade #KathleenAyers #SinfullyWed
I’m not sure what I was expecting but Odessa wasn’t it 😂 the lengths she went to to avoid marriage were hilarious and very extreme in a completely unexpected way. She does everything in her power to avoid the pompous dandy’s her father is determined for her to marry.
Interestingly this story felt more focussed on Jordan than Odessa. We really get to understand his history and the poverty forced upon him and his siblings by his horrid half brother. The Sinclairs were all very fun and I already love them all and can’t wait for their stories! Even the ones not on page often still dazzled. Nicknamed the ‘deadly sins’ they are unwelcome in London society despite their change in circumstances. They’re bold and resilient and not used to conforming to polite society.
Jordan, the newly appointed Lord Emerson, has inherited all of his brothers debt and must marry Odessa Whitehall to clear it. Neither of them want the marriage and both resent that they have been forced into it. However despite Odessa’s strong attempts to put him off, Jordan finds himself intrigued by the odd, intelligent and bold young women.
He is everything she likes in a man and despite having been chosen by her father she wants him. And she is everything most society women are not, the perfect women for a previously impoverished pig farmer.
I enjoyed the characters and their story but did feel the romance ended a little quickly - though what we do get was excellent! I loved seeing Odessa make a stand and their declarations of their feelings for one another was lovely but wish it had been a little more drawn out. However I did enjoy the story and almost read it in one night!
I am very much looking forward to the next deadly sin!
Quirky is a word I don’t think I have ever used to describe the leading lady in a romance novel but goodness, Odessa Whitehall is indeed just that. That’s not the only thing that sets this book apart from the norm as this book made me laugh out loud more than once at Odessa’s antics. She is the daughter of a very wealthy man, who will stop at nothing to have his daughter marry into the ton and land a title. Meanwhile, she’ll do anything to find a husband that wants more than her very, very hefty dowry. We then meet Jordan, the reluctant heir to an earldom who has been trying to keep his 4 younger siblings and himself afloat by pig farming at a crumbling estate near the Scottish border. Life hasn’t been easy for our hero and his family, who I can only assume will be the stars of this new series and if so, I can’t wait as no one does a series better than Ayers but back to this book…. Belching, onions and tar are just a few of the ways that Odessa finds to attempt to dissuade her suitors but due to the dire straits Jordan’s family are in because of his loathsome brother, he just can't walk away. The banter between the two as they accidentally fall in love is fun and entertaining and the addition of a few spicy scenes make this book a great read. Two people who feel stuck with their options actually find that the options they are fighting against are exactly what they need.
The book starts eleven years ago, when Jordan's father had just been buried. His older half brother, the heir to his father, banished Jordan, his mother and his siblings to a far away, run down estate. They were given little money to subsist on and each of the five kids did different things to contribute to the household. Their mother died just a year after they were banished. After Bentley, the horrible half brother, dies in a carriage accident, Jordan and his siblings moved back to London. Bentley did not taken care of the Inheritance and was going to marry Odessa, an heiress whose father wants his daughter to be part of the nobility. Now, Jordan is expected to marry the heiress, because her father owns markers on the estate. I liked Jordan, but it took awhile to like Odessa. While I certainly understood her motivation, Odessa's efforts in deterring Jordan's courtship became a little tiresome. I did enjoy her great aunt, Lottie, who also is her chaperone. I feel like this book didn't get really good until the 80% mark. Too much time was spent with Odessa trying to deter Jordan by attempting to disgust him with her appearance. I look forward to the rest of the series. I really liked Jordan's siblings and look forward to their stories.
Jordan, new earl of Emerson, has inherited a depleted title but marriage to the daughter of the man who owns all his markers can save him and his family from being poor ever again. After living as a pig farmer for a decade, surely courting ( and convince her to marry him) a troll-like girl who smells of onions won’t be that hard. The new earl of Emerson is nothing like the previous one but Odessa is determined to give him the same treatment even though it is harder each time he comes calling. Both of them are desperate to get what they want and will go to great lengths to achieve their goals misunderstanding along the way each other’s motivations. First book in a new series of five, sinfully wed is funny, original, heartwarming and, towards the end, deliciously spicy and you are too engrossed by the story that you don’t even notice you’re already halfway through it. Wonderful side characters, too (Jordan’s butler and Odessa’s aunt among them) I hope we’ll see more of them in the following books. I received an advanced copy of the book in exchange for an honest and voluntary review.
I am thrilled with the introduction to this fantastic new series. The Sinclair family, not so lovingly dubbed The Deadly Sins, proves to be unlike any other of the Ton. Having been forced out of society by their older brother, the Earl, when their father died, they learned how to support themselves and survive. Living a hard life in the remotes of England may have roughed up their society sparkle, but it also taught them resilience. Jordan Sinclair will do anything for his family, including wed a very unsuitable bride. But what lies beneath the odd exterior will surprise him. I adore the enemies to lovers dance between these two. For two people so opposed to the idea of marrying the other, the physical chemistry between them was palpable and electric. The lengths Odessa went to to avoid marriage had me in fits of giggles. This story will delight your senses and leave you hungry for more. I fell for his sister Tamsin almost the second she came on page and I cannot wait for her story. I have my ideas already and am eager to see if I am right. The Five Deadly Sins is already firmly in my mind as a new favourite series.
What a great way to start a new series. Well written, full of action, love, steam, exciting characters and a fabulous storyline. This author is able to place you right in the middle of this story with her writing. Jordan is considered one of the deadly sins, not wanting to do as his family wants but due to the rules of the Ton and his family , he does as told to do. Odessa does not want this marriage to go thru and does pull all kinds of acts to get away from it. Both would like to end the contract done by their families. Their relationship has some some funny reactions between them but also has steam. What happens is great and they both learn that they really are good together. Happy that they are able to work out their issues and have a happily ever after. Absolutely fabulous start to this series and meeting others in the Sinclair family. Loved it. Would recommend this book to all.
After the death of his father, the Earl of Emerson, Jordan Sinclair and his half of the family are banished by the new Earl, his half brother. Now years later he doesn't think it can get any worse. He is wrong. It's about to get way worse, and he is powerless to change it.
Odessa Whitehall is a wealthy heiress whose father is feared and shunned by the Society he wants for his only child. He will use any means to make them accept her. Odessa wants nothing to do with any of the dandified fops that inhabit the Ton. She has her own ways to foil her father's plans.
This amusing historical romance has larger than life characters that refuse to conforme to the norm. I was somewhat surprised by the abrupt ending. I assume that is because it's the first book in a series. I am looking forward to the next ones. The "Sins" are a fascinating family.
A delightful story that tells the story between a broke Earl and an Heiress.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story. I loved Odessas quirkiness and Emersons patience with her, despite the motivation. All of the characters were likable and I'm definitely going to keep an eye out for their stories. The book was a good length and the story was well paced.
