This was the first novel I read for pleasure and it set the standard for all that followed. The book is both thrilling and thought provoking, with everything from theology to swashbuckling to romance; struggles for survival in a harsh wilderness, political intrigue, plots, plans, capes, swords, ships, poison darts, perilous cliffs, friendship, love, betrayal, etc.
