This story of the making of a patchwork quilt is illustrated with woodcuts and authentic patchwork blocks and includes instructions for making a simple patchwork quilt
What a cool introduction to how old patchwork quilts tell stories byy going through individual patches and explaining how they remind the sewer (and recipient of the quilt) of accompanying stories in this fictitious family's life. I also liked the use of the wood or linoleum block prints as the illustrations. That's a first for me in children's books and it's different from Susan L. Roth's usual mixed-media collages. It felt like an appropriate medium, however.
