Gonji #5

Knights of Wonder

Rate this book
The final published book in the GONJI series finds Gonji and his companions committed to aiding the tormented lycanthrope Simon Sardonis against a tyrannical family of shape-shifters, in a haunted territory in France. Adding complication to the conflict is the fact that the sadistic Farouche are Simon's own kin from another sphere of the fractured system of concentric worlds.

My original title for this book is A HUNGERING OF WOLVES.

Three more books are planned, and partially written, which would complete Gonji's quest to free the age-old system of Arcadian worlds from an ancient tyranny that denies all sentient beings their rightful access to countless worlds offering unlimited room and wondrous bounty.

Additionally, I have planned three pre-Vedun books---the "young Gonji" tales, as it were---which bring him from prophesied birth to the pivotal actions and portentous encounters in the Vedun action.

Will they ever see print?

Recent renewed interest in the series, resulting in foreign-language editions and audio releases, may yet usher in a new era of Gonji's flashing blades and mystical adventures.

With their fates entwinned, Gonji and Simon must once again battle unearthly evil. Many characters from the previous four books show up and some meet their ultimate end. An all or nothing battle decides the fate of our sphere.

The story is divided into three parts. Part one is a disjointed, fragmented recollection of past events. Part two is primarily Gonji deciding his next course of action: whether to go home to Japan or to France to aid a friend and ally. Part three comprises the final battle for freedom from the predations of the evil.

Parts one and two were wordy, redundant, and slow. Several times I thought about putting the book down for awhile for something else. I persevered, and was rewarded with an action packed part three that showcased monstrous foes, selfless and courageous common folk, and an awesome act of faith.
