Rate this book
How are you affected by the media that surrounds you every day? Do you understand how technology works, develops and changes over time? What can you do to use the media more effectively? How can you make the media responsive to you? MEDIA NOW is the first mass communication text to encourage critical thinking about the media and its effects on culture while providing a thorough understanding of how the media technologies develop, operate, converge, and affect our greater society. Unlike other introductory mass communication books, MEDIA NOW prepares you for a career in the expanded field of telecommunications, interactive media, and traditional media industries. MEDIA NOW provides you with a book that will teach you the foundational theories, concepts, and technical knowledge to help you thrive in your chosen career. It has "news you can use" that will guide you to impact the media as much as they impact you.

I intended to read this book, not a requirement, just for basic information. It was a heavy book to read, literally and figuratively. Took me a month to finish it, but it was worth it. From every aspect of media today, with the history and the innovation it has come to pursue.

The book is very easy to understand. It's colored, with the feel of magazine pages. Summary and questions to help you further understand the readings that has been presented. And bits of "dictionary" of the jargons that the common people might not understand. It also covers the business aspect of each media, the laws and issues are presented as well.

Overall, this book is a great introduction to the media, if ever a person might want to pursue the course or just for basic knowledge.

Not terrible, as textbooks go, but I did find it a little too didactic, even for a college text. The texts I have enjoyed the most during my studies this year have been the ones that make me feel like I’m learning organically alongside experts, rather than being lectured to. This one felt a little too “I’m going to read my lectures off slides the whole time.”

RATING RUNDOWN:
Relevance (4/5)
Pacing (3/5)
Research/Authenticity (3/5)
Craft & Voice (3/5)
Reading Experience (3/5)

A little dull; better to go to the original sources for this material than a textbook
