This is about murderer Robert Fry, whose claim to fame is that he targeted Native Americans. This book is not particularly well-written, being very repetitive, especially the trial.

An okay book about three murder cases in New Mexico, only two of which were adjudicated at the time of publication. Some of the victims were Native Americans, and the author tries to draw parallels between Navajo tradition and the contemporary events, but the device doesn't really work and becomes a bit of a distraction.

Monster, indeed

Initially I thought this would be a run of the mill boring non- fiction account of terrible crimes. It was so much better than what I anticipated. It is a well done page turner. The crimes were worse than I imagined.

Not a great read, a little boring though pretty graphic. A lot of it sounded like mumbo-jumbo to me and I couldn’t make sense of it. In a lot of places, it was just like the author was filling gaps which didn’t make for an interesting read.

As a true crime fan, this isn’t one I’d recommend.

The book is meh, but the topic is of interest as I grew up with Bobby and his family and knew many of the people in the book, including one of his accomplices, a brother of my very good friend. This was a mindfuck.

Save your time

This does not rise to a level expected for a professional author.
This is a sorry excuse for professional work.

Nice historical additive to story

The additional narrative on American Indians and the local history made for a much better entertaining read than just the story of murder.

Although I do enjoy reading about such a topic, this book reads like one big newspaper article. It was chalk-full of dates, times, and certain facts were reinstated more than once. Kind of tedious. However, it is a vital bit of brutal history that surrounds the New Mexico area, and the author deserves credit on such circumstantial research and digging to the core of the truth. I would recommend this.

Interesting information about a local killer.....not all of the book is accurate, as I am friends with Det. Eagle, who is barely mentioned in the book, yet was the lead detective. Overall, a good read about a creepy human being.
