Prior to his first professional work, Tynion was a student of Scott Snyder's at Sarah Lawrence College. A few years later, he worked as for Vertigo as Fables editor Shelly Bond's intern. In late 2011, with DC deciding to give Batman (written by Snyder) a back up feature, Tynion was brought in by request of Snyder to script the back ups he had plotted. Tynion would later do the same with the Batman Annual #1, which was also co-plotted by Snyder. Beginning in September 2012, with DC's 0 issue month for the New 52, Tynion will be writing Talon, with art by Guillem March. In early 2013 it was announced that he'd take over writing duties for Red Hood and the Outlaws in April.
Tynion is also currently one of the writers in a rotating team in the weekly Batman Eternal series.
On the DC Mystic side, the magic users are starting to realize that this might not be your run-of-the-mill vampire infestation. Constantine, always one to go his own way, is actually still hoping he can stay friends with Zatanna.
Well. All good things must come to an end.
Meanwhile, Ollie makes a move on his prime suspect for the Master of vampires.
Green Arrow and Batman each assume the other one is a vampire, leading to a fun stake-off. But outside of the Batfamily, GA and the Black Canary are the only members of the Justice League who are in on the fact that vampires are infiltrating everything, so a team-up is imminent.
But how much will it matter once Wonder Woman shows up in the Batcave? Yeah, these guys are fucked. Right?
5 stars if the art was a little more to my liking. As it is, this is a very good follow up to last years's DCeased stories. You would think Superman could tell who was or wasn't a vampire by using his senses and/or X-ray vision or such.
A fun issue of watching Bruce and Ollie misunderstanding each other and trying to kill each other. The ending sets up something I can't understand how two people will survive. Let's see.
We get some excellent writing between John and Zatanna, along with Ollie and Batman going toe to toe both suspecting one another of being infected. Yet we all know who the real focus should be on...
This is a fun series, so far. Quite the cliffhanger at the end of this issue, but it's easy to see why this series is a hit. Might end up being up there with DCeased by the end.
Alright now this series is properly starting to stress me out, but Constantine is now where near as motivated or depressed as needs to be to really lock in like he usually does, lol. As we jump into this issue it is just now occurring to me that the writing team is putting the phrase “trust no one” everywhere as a constant reminder to the reader that anyone could be a vampire, but we start by finding Constantine sitting in a bar, as usual, as Zatanna pays him a visit and pulls him tot he side for a private chat. Or doesn’t take long with his back turned for her to whip out the fangs…and John immediately responds by using magic to restrict her movements. He has know Zee for a very long time so he knew immediately, but he doesn’t kill her out right and instead sits down to have a chat and a drink with her. I honestly find this to be perfect Constantine but in the same vein completely hate it as John loved Zee so no way seeing her dead would sit right with him. After a bit of talking the duo are interrupted by Doctor fate coming to retrieve John, Zee immediately leaps for Fate as he has been hunting their kind…only for Johnathan to restrain her a bit and for Fate to deliver a killing blow. But Constantine goes off on Fate for the move as that was his friend…seriously?! That’s a vampire inhabiting the dead body of a woman you loved and you were trying to make nice with her?! No shot John would ever do that, he would march down and rip apart the after life to get her back before chatting it up with a vampire like that, hell nah.
Elsewhere we have a moment to check in with a few of the other bat members as Barbara’s detective skills have brought her to a hotel in old Gotham where she has found some very old dirt sitting under a bed. If you know anything about vampires you know that when a vampire travels they must sleep above dirt from their ancestral home…Barbara explains this in another very flirt session with Nightwing as he followed her to this location as well. Guys I love to see a healthy relationship but have some boundaries and take pride in your work, people are dying out there and you have areas to patrol. Either way, Barbara found this room was booked long term under Mary Shackton, the maiden name for Mary Seward’s mother…Mary, Queen of the blood. Which means the ruler of the vampires was in Gotham and traveling in secret and they have to find out why. Additionally we get a chance to check in on Red Hood and Cass as they have knocked over some vampire business people while looking for more clues to lead them to the top of the vampire hierarchy…only to be attacked by vampire Gorilla Grodd. He rips through the office building and tanks their attacks, until Cass is able to stab him in the backright as he drops Jason out of a window. Grodd retreated and turned into a bat in time for Jason to grab a ledge to be pulled up, but even with all this chaos Cass did find something…a bloody joker playing card…oh you have got to be kidding me!!
But now for the main bat in charge, as the real juice of this issue takes place in the bat cave as Bruce suddenly realized he had an undetected visitor. He alerted Alfred with a code word and send the cave into a blackout just in time for like to sneak up from behind to shoot him with an arrow…only for Ollie to realize at the last moment batman swapped himself out with a dummy to sneak up on Ollie from behind. The pair immediately engage each other in a fight as they tumble all over the bat cave, Ollie hitting Bruce with a vial of liquid found out to be holy water and Bruce continually trying to stake Ollie…only for both of them to realize at the same moment they think the other is a vampire and they are both still alive. HAHAHAHA. As they got up and cleaned up they compared notes. Ollie first became aware of vampires through clock king after he tried to bite Ollie. Ollie got hustling and because of how big a moron clock king is he couldn’t tell what was real or not, so he went dark and started tracking villain movements and unexplained disappearances which led him to batman. Batman confirms Ollie’s suspicions were partially correct, a hero did turn but it wasn’t batman…it’s Hal, and he has already killed Barry. Ollie is distraught, these are his friends we are talking about but he is ready for next steps even if it means going after them. But batman doesn’t think they are ready as Hal is too powerful but he isn’t at he top of this, he is merely a pawn of a general and then need to follow this up to the top of the chain if they have and hope of winning.
But as Ollie and Bruce continue to compare notes, with Bruce questioning if Ollie will be able to kill someone he cares about if the time comes…suddenly the intruder alarm goes off. The two get ready immediately as Diana gracefully walks in. Ollie lets down his guard but batman stays questioning her, but she is speaking strangely…telling them they know what happened to Barry and it’s not his fault as he is sick. Ollie tries to explain that it wasn’t batman but Hal…but batman can see she already knows that. He immediately makes into attack plans but Hal flies in to interrupt them as suddenly the entire Justice league comes crashing in, believing that Bruce has been changed and they need to help them. But Bruce can see there is only one way Ollie and him get out of this…they fight!

So much fun, the whole fight between Bruce and Ollie ruled and Bruce calling it the batfloor is hilarious. Only four issues in and we're already getting pretty heavy into this, excited to see where it goes.

I wish I could give this series six stars so far. I absolutely love it. It has everything I was looking for when I saw the ad for this title. It's dark and grim but also funny with great banter between the characters. It's intriguing with twists and a great backstory. It's like reading Dracula, watching a 1930s vampire movie, and reading Vampironica all at the same time. I love it so much, clearly. This issue is no exception. All the scenes--with Constantine, then with Nightwing and Batwoman, and with Batman and Green Arrow--are great, but my favorite scenes by far are the ones with Ollie and Bruce, up until the very end when we get the encounter with Diana and the other members of the Justice League. I really can't wait for #5, and I kind of wish I'd waited for the whole collection to come out, so I can just read this all in one book, but I'm already planning on rereading this whole series once it's complete. I love DC for this series and for Dark Knights of Steel this year!
This series is so much fun. I've said that already, but I mean it. I absolutely love the art, and the humour is great. The story is exciting. Weird as it sounds, it definitely helped that I watched DC Super Hero Girls animated series, because now I know a lot more of the heroes than I would have otherwise, which makes this a lot more fun. I loved the John/Zatanna part a lot. Only one thing, why is Nightwing such a stalky idiot in this?
Jumped right in with this issue! Batman (B) and Green Arrow (GA) have to get it right right away - some of their old team members are getting 'hungry' to catch up! Reminded me of the old Brave and the Bold series; and B/GA are going to have to be bold and brave like never before if they hope to survive!
Th The art is a bit rough and some of the characters don't sound true to themselves, but Bruce and Ollie facing off is funny, as is Ollie playing with a toy Batmobile from the '89 movie. Then it hits the fan. Really liked the quiet interlude with Dick and Babs, too.
This issue begins in such a humorous way, as Batman and Green Arrow try killing each other due to wrongly believing the other is a vampire. Once that's out of the way, the pair unite forces to stop stronger forces, while other pieces are put into place for what's to come. Another stellar issue.
Batman and Green Arrow are hunting down vampires, and not very well. I feel like they cut a corner and we got cheated out of seeing some cool vampire super hero transformations :(
