After marrying a Spaniard, she took up residence in the beautiful Valencian Community on the east coast of Spain. Sandra has lived in Spain for the last twenty-five years and has two children. The Class is her first novel, which was awarded the 1996 1st Novel of Genre. Award of the University of Lleida.
Apparently on her deathbed, Susan reviews her life both previous to, and after the apocalyptic joke played by destiny on The Class. The future leadership of the mountain settlement, where they have tried to rebuild their lives, is at stake. With tragedy looming large over the small community, Susan analyses recent Spanish social history, including the Civil War. With no lack of irony, the authoress tells of ethical conflicts, human feelings and thirst for power. The unexpected ending to the novel shocks the reader, who must decide if the end can ever justify the means. Set in Castellón city and province, the geographical background blends perfectly with the action.
