Offers an insightful and intelligent exploration of modern beekeeping practices, and how they can be improved for a more sustainable and bee-friendly approach.
The Bee-Friendly Beekeeper is definitely worth reading if you're hunting for a more natural way to raise bees. It's a modern take on the Warre hive, with lots of excellent information and photos.
That said, the book is quite expensive since it's not printed in the US --- you might want to check a copy out of your library or visit the link to read the highlights from my blog. It also won't tell you everything you need to know to manage a Warre hive, which is somewhat understandable since the translated version of Beekeeping for All (the original guide) is now available as a free pdf. However, I wouldn't have minded a blow by blow, with modern photos and updates, added to this slim book (especially after I paid 30 some dollars for a paperback.)
I also realized about 2/3 of the way through the book that the author had only been using a Warre hive for, I believe, 4 years when he wrote the book. Sure, he includes information from a lot of other experimenters, but that's not much time to work the kinks out of a new beekeeping method.
