Just finished the latest Kurt Hunter story (Backwater Glades) by Steven Becker. It is another good story in this series. I enjoyed that this story started to show other areas within the National Park system in South Florida. It also included a little more of the history of South Florida and what makes the area tick, especially, the rural areas.
The story starts with discovery of a body within the park. This person had worked in an adjacent park as a volunteer and was a colleague of a recent employee under Kurt Hunter. The story line takes you to the Everglades where the deceased lived and volunteered. This is an area that has been heavily involved with the drug trade in the past. The population of the area includes a large number of Native Americans and highlights the conflicts between the Native Americans and the rest of the population.
Outstanding murder mystery with a great location and plenty of action. Kurt tries to solve another murder and has to deal with a group of very shady characters. Very well written page-turning story that was quite enjoyable and one that I highly recommend. Keep the Kurt Hunter mysteries coming. A really great series!
Good story kept one interested with all the square grouper and the likes of people in Everglades city where family lines run together once the movie was watched and alll the parties were in a line the plug was pulled and the criminals got what they e deserved…ciao from costa rica
As a stand alone book, this was a pretty good action novel. However, when compared to the previous books it seemed to miss a step. The characters were a bit shallow and the plot not as complex as in the previous books. This is the next to the last in the series, I still enjoyed the book, but didn't think was as compelling as the previous books.
So much action it's hard to begin. A murder, crab cages, boats, pythons, bad guys, really bad guys, and a harrowing car chase that will turn your brain to putty. And there's more but you need to read the book to find out. Highly Recommended.
Nothing out of the ordinary in this one. Just your basic Kurt Hunter mystery. Seems to be getting pretty formulaic, to me. Nothing compelling to keep me turning pages. Good bedside reading that you can stop reading and then do it again at bedtime the next night
