He read the letter and slid into the chair at the family meeting. With a shudder, he met his son’s eyes and sighed. They all watched him, waiting. She wanted this? His beloved wife, gone three years? It was a useless gesture, but he wouldn’t deny the attempt. One date, to satisfy Maria. But that was all. He swore it.

Maureen O. Batita’s title promises readers a story that is out of the ordinary, and she delivers wonderfully in this short that pairs Aaron Castillo, a widower who is reluctant to move on after the death of his wife of thirty-seven years, and Hannah Reed, who has just turned fifty and is facing an uncertain future after the economic crisis. It’s a sweet, sexy read with two characters the reader cares about, a romantic setting, and an HEA to gladden the heart. Batita offers more persuasive evidence that characters over fifty can star in their own romances, Kudos to her!

He read the letter and slid into the chair at the family meeting. With a shudder, he met his son's eyes and sighed. They all watched him, waiting. She wanted this? His beloved wife, gone three years? It was a useless gesture, but he wouldn't deny the attempt. One date, to satisfy Maria. But that was all. He swore it.

Something Different was something beautiful. If this story is any indication that romance is not just for the young, I cannot wait to grow older. Aaron is a wonderful hero, made more endearing by the depth of the love he has for his deceased wife and children. He is so stoic but not indifferent and might be the Mr. Right the heroine has been searching for. Hannah is a mature woman with a full past and an uncertain future. She is optimistic, good-natured and candid. She is compassionate and playful and seems to be the balm Aaron needs for his wounded heart. I loved the setting, who wouldn’t want to be romanced on the beach. I felt myself swept up in the magic of the moment. If you are looking for a grown-up love story that people of all ages will enjoy this one is for you!

All of a sudden, I'm getting all these little 50 pagers which are awesome! This one's a bit too expensive for me, though.

I started seeing these “One Night Stand” books around, but didn't really have a lot of interest. The series name made it sound like an impersonal erotic quickie. It was anything but! This is the first one I've read, and though it did imply the books are related, at least this one stood on its own. I wouldn't rate it any more graphic than a typical Harlequin Romance. The story doesn't waste time with preamble. Read the blurb, because it's not repeated in the story.

I loved BOTH of these characters. I got the book because I loved Hannah's List (Debbie Macomber) and wanted to see if someone else could write a similar story. I was nervous when I found the girl's name was Hannah… but the story quickly swept me away from any defense of Debbie's story. You can feel the sadness with the characters, but it won't make you cry like Hannah's List. It fills you with hope for the future after a rough patch of life.

Unsure heroes are wonderful to read. Aaron is still mourning his dead wife, yet he sees things in Hannah that stir him against his will and throw him for a loop. Hannah is confident in herself and her life, yet lonely. I loved the glimpses of a supporting cast which is never seen, and you can feel how much Aaron's family loves him. I can't go into why I loved the book much more than that. It's short, and anything I say would spoil it.

Part of the one night stand series. Something different lives up to it's name. A romance centered around an older couple, a Man 58, widowed after 37 years of marriage and a single woman of 50 who thinks she was so busy in her career that she let her chance at love pass her by. I really enjoyed this story. it is the 4th story I have read in this series the 2nd by this author and I will definitely be picking up more in the future. Really cute concept.

Another from Decadent's 1 Night Stand series, but this time it's by Maureen O Betita, rapidly becoming my go-to author for older couples. This time the patriarch of the Casillo clan is set up by his deceased wife and his offspring on a date with a fifty year old former high-flier. They have a boat trip, they share finger food on a tropical island, and it's all very sweet. A lovely short to keep me going until I can buy the next paperback in the author's Kraken series.
