This was a first read of Jeffe Kennedy and it wont be my last.

Sapphire sucked me in from page one and I read this story in one sitting and didn't want it to end.

Sapphire was a wonderful read and Jeffe Kennedy is a talented writer. A good story with realistic characters and a different take on of a BDSM plot/storyline.

Taylor and Adam's journey was very emotional and at times it made my heart sting especially when she used her safe word. I actually said "NO" out loud.

An emotional read.

M Taylor Hamilton is a successful business woman whose stern control and prowess in the boardroom is legendary. She has no time for games in or out of the bedroom, much to her fellow business partner’s dismay. When he decides to take matters into his own hands Taylor must decide if she is willing to give up the one thing she holds most dear-her trust.

Sapphire is a dark erotic BDSM by Jeffe Kennedy. It flirts with the issues of control, trust, obsession, dominance, and submission. Two very strong players engaged in a battle over a woman’s heart and body. Heavy erotic scenes takes us deep into the psyche of both characters as we watch Adam lead Taylor through elaborate and extreme dance towards a relationship that is filled with both pain and pleasure. The meeting of Taylor and Adam is filled with so much innuendos and sexual promises that your almost breathless as you read their dialogue. Very sensual. I enjoyed watching the battle that wages in Taylor as she tries to reconcile and merge the two very different facets of her personality. This is very serious to her because admitting she needs someone is akin to admitting failure.

I admit to having some problems with this book though. Adam tells Taylor that the only way to be free is for Taylor to give up her rigid control. Yet the way he goes about it made me very uncomfortable. I felt Adam was obsessed with Taylor. He wanted to break her and he chose any and all ways possible. The constant threats of punishment contradicted the trust he wants from her. All I heard was, “I know you better than you know yourself and this is for your own good.” How can you trust someone who is willing to hurt you in order to get you to submit to them? I also felt that the safe word is actually a way for Adam to manipulate Taylor more. He has studied her for months. He knows she will suffer anything he will do to her in order to win. He set all this up as a battle of wills knowing what buttons of hers to push. I felt most of what he did was for his own pleasure and not hers. Especially some of the sexual play he initiates. I felt he pushed boundaries and crossed lines without making sure Taylor was ready for it. To me that is not a responsible Dom. He put his wants and needs before hers. And needed her to be his in every way.

Maybe I would have been more comfortable with it if they were already in a relationship rather than just starting. He does redeem himself a little in the end but I wasn’t convinced that this would be a healthy relationship for either of them.

Overall Rating: C-

M. Taylor Hamilton is a successful business woman. She devotes her life to order and her all consuming work. While on her boss's yacht she receives another coupe, a promotion. A fellow colleague, Adam Kirliss wants Taylor to notice him. He thinks she posses all the right qualities to be his submissive. He achieves her notice by handcuffing her to the upper deck, stripping her panties and bringing her to orgasm. After this Taylor leaves to go home, she contemplates what has transpired and secretly admits to herself that she wants more. Even though she verbally made it clear to Adam that she does not desire anything he offers. I know the advanced copy I have received is not final, and spelling mistakes can occur. Throughout this book I have had to reread to understand what the author is trying to convey. My first obstacle was 17% into the copy I received. "She'd loved every moment of what he'd done. Like a baby heroine addict, now she wanted more." I believe heroine is misspelled for heroin and Taylor is comparing her need of more sexual gratification at the hands of Adam to a drug addict or if in fact this quote is supposed to be taken literally to compare a baby addicted to heroin, I know I am not the only one who could get confused, so this must be addressed. If the author intended "baby" to mean "new", the word "new" inherently states what is conveyed. If "baby" is in fact supposed to mean infant, than I am offended and it pisses me off. The author could have chosen different words to convey her meaning. For now other readers can decide.

The potential hero asks our heroine on an official date, just the two of them, not a situation for potential public display. This is where the meat of the story and sexual activity progresses. Although one must wonder how the hero achieves a first date since the hero is like the guy that a female knows at some point in her life. The annoying guy you may banter with, but never let get into your panties. However he manages to pull this off, I am still wondering how he achieves this. The dialogue and sex scenes the two engage in while appearing to be BDSM is really the two playing games. As a fan of BDSM erotic fiction, one expects the coaxing demand for trust, ultimately submission and even love. It is a process. There is a certain expectation, but yet a give and take to make this type of relationship work. What the hero and heroine partake in is not this, just mind games. He just wants her to beg, ultimately to be right or given in to. It seems that true submission isn't really the goal here.

Taylor has had a hard life, she likes to project herself as a strong, impenetrable woman. She views her first name as weak and feminine. Hence using Taylor. Adam is obsessed with finding out what M stands for. He treats Taylor like she is two different people. Taylor and M. Two personas perhaps is a better way of looking at it. Many people do in fact have different personas, but this was still frustrating to me. The name is revealed later during a submissive moment. Trust was supposedly conveyed. I personally did not find this book sensual or erotic. The sex scenes provided adequate description, but never drew me into the story. The entire reading experience was like reading a text book.

Another quibble that needs to be addressed was once the heroine was bound, the hero kept threatening to use his belt for punishment. Perhaps to ratchet up the suspense or sexual gratificaion, but one would think with constant threats, there is not trust, and ultimately no submitting. Not the desired goal. The hero comes off as a creeper just as in the beginning of the book. He finally takes it off and says, " the wonderful thing about a belt- if you get one of good leather- is you have it with you wherever you go. That way you can always remind your woman of how things stand between you." (45%). Then he goes on to explain that this is to show what passes between dark intimate moments. The sex scene progresses into an animalistic frenzy for sex. Not a overwhelming desire for sex, just a base mindless act.

Once again, submission is to trust which is given to the Dominant, not done by force. Desired results are not achieved. But somehow this is the message sent. " You'll trust me, because you'll have no choice." Eventually Taylor gives in/submits and reveals what M stands for. The liberation that comes from this is not believable to this reader. The story progresses where the heroine must make up her mind if Adam and the life of submission or give and take is what she truly wants. She makes her decision with the hint that there could be a happily ever after for these two. The title refers to their safe word, it is interesting why Adam picks it. I personally do not believe this is a dark erotica or what some authors coin as psychological literary erotica. If that was intended, the story missed the mark. I do not recommend this book to fans of erotic romance or friends. The reading completion of this book was just to see where the story would go. I must add that this was a short story, so the HEA was only hinted at.

When do I know I'm going to love a book? When I'm writing notes within the first few minutes of starting it. I was only on page two of Sapphire by Jeffe Kennedy when I noted about the lead heroine "This buttoned up chick needs an orgasm or three" Taylor, is a career woman, a go-getter, a ball buster and that's pretty much all you know about her at first. I got the impression she was highly organised, that sex in her life was secondary to climbing the corporate ladder, and that she'd most probably schedule in an orgasm every third Thursday of the month just to check it off her to-do list. ( Vibrator; check. Minty fresh clit cream; check. Ten minutes; check. let's do this thing! ) That was until business associate Adam turned her world upside down and painted it in a tint of KINK. And although she gave a token struggle against what he wanted from her, she got exactly what she needed.

Oh Adam. Where have you been all my life?! Here is a hero I can swoon over. He wont be to every woman's tastes. He is this side of bossy and controlling. But hellishly charming and my eyes had the swoons reading about him. He wants Taylor and doesn't give her much room to say no. Within the first few moments of being on the page together he's cuffed her, pocketed her panties and his hand is up her skirt making her pant like some asthmatic feline!

SEE! He's pretty much perfect. And when he slides his jeans off. Lord. I found it one of those most erotic scenes from the book but it seemed to take an AGE for him to show skin! The author teased my very eyeballs with the salacious description of the very simple move until I had to note down "c*ck teasing author. Well played"

A short erotic read. But beautifully written, it feels smooth and effortlessly, nothing rushed and I felt as If I could be in Adam and Taylor's world for much longer and be happy there being a dirty voyeur.

With any erotic book you want to know how the smex Is ( I know It's not just me?! ) There is a lot packed in there. And that's no pun to Adam's size. CoughBigBoyCough. It ticks a lot of boxes and will please the rabid kinky reader. Bondage, D/s elements, begging, safeword, butt play and that's all before his jeans come off!

My favourite quotes:

This man reminded her of some of those dark and unsettling fantasies she tucked deep away

“I find it…unsettling, that you talk like I’m two different people.”

“It’s understandable. You need to put up a token effort for the propriety of your conscious mind. You maybe find the struggle thrilling. I’ll let you in on a secret.” Kirliss leaned forward and stroked the petals of the rose. “I confess I like it when you struggle too. It…stirs me.”

Such a lovely read. Hot and spicy with characters I loved getting to know.

Sapphire is a wicked sexy BDSM novella about control-freak and workaholic business woman, M. Taylor Hamilton. Watching her mother lose control of her life and having to take care of herself at a young age, Taylor strives to be nothing like her by remaining in complete control at all times, in every situation, and never losing her head over a man. But when a fellow businessman that she previously shot down corners Taylor on her boss’s yacht and pushes her into an illicit erotic encounter, Taylor’s icy control starts to crack.
Adam Kirliss sees the real woman behind the hard exterior in Taylor, M as he calls her, and wants to bring that woman front and center, not just for himself but for Taylor too. He can see that Taylor needs to let down the wall to fully enjoy life, she just needs a little push in the right direction. But when Adam lays it all out will he end up pushing Taylor too far, causing her to run?

I really enjoyed this novella. It has light BDSM to it with a subtle sub/dom theme, and I say light because compared to some other BDSM novels I’ve read it is but that doesn’t mean that you won’t get wrapped up in the story, and in more ways than one! ;)

I absolutely loved Adam Kirless, he wanted Taylor, did his research and then set out to have her in a way that not only made her finally see him, but see her true self as well. Adam was intuitive to Taylor’s needs, seeing past her icy defense mechanisms. He knew that she needed to be pushed and pushed hard to conquer her fears but made sure not to cross any extreme boundaries and to let her adjust to the situation before moving onto each step. He was dominating when needed but at the same time, gentle and caring. His character had many faucets and I adored every one!
Taylor had such a tall and thick wall around her that it was hard to connect with her character at first but as Adam breaks that wall down and Taylor starts to let go, I, as the reader, began to see more and more into her psyche and form a connection with her as the story progressed, while at the same time Taylor is learning more about herself and becoming comfortable in her own skin as well.

The pace of the story was good, the sex scenes intense and incredibly flammable, the relationship was believable, and the characters captivating. Sapphire is about the true purpose behind BDSM, breaking a person down and then building them up to be even better than they were. A very satisfying erotic novella in every way!

I gave this book 4 full moons because it had me keep reading until the end. I had to stop reading certain parts to cool down though. =)
My hubby has always wondered why I loved reading romance and erotica. Books like this give me ideas on what we could together. =) Thank you, Jeffe Kennedy, for some ideas that I definitely wouldn't mind trying out...although there is one thing I won't try...it's just too far out there for me. LOL
I definitely will be keeping up with Jeffe's books now after I read this book and I recommend this book to anyone who likes erotica. I even recommend for anyone who isn't comfortable with erotica. This book will take you out of your comfort zone and who knows, maybe bring out another side you never knew about, as Adam did to Taylor.

This book was just ok for me, I love the idea of the story, the strong, successful woman who craves the ability to give up control, even if she isn't aware that's what her turn on is, to an Alpha man who can give her what she needs. But for some reason the whole story and the characters left me a little cold. I don't have any other explanation other than it just didn't do it for me the what I expected it was going to. Maybe if it were a bit longer with some depth to the characters...I don't know. For this reason this story was just meh for me!

This was short and super steamy. Things started out just a little bit creepy, but in the end, I did like Adam. It was obvious he'd do anything for Taylor. I liked that he was funny and affectionate, that there was more to him than his dominant side. Taylor was very much in control of her life, so seeing her submit to Adam was interesting. I felt bad for her about her past. I wish we'd gotten to know more of Adam's. Overall, this was an average erotic romance. Adam made the book.

This is a kinky dirty but fun book.

I have issue connecting with the hero and heroine, I especially find it difficult to connect with the heroine. I found her prickly, bitchy and unlikable.

That is one hot piece of cover! Awesome-sauce. Just by seeing the cover, without reading any description or anything, I was like "Hell yeah, I'm reading this!!"

So I did, thanks to NetGalley. Awesome place for us readers/bloggers. You should give it a visit if you're a book blogger, I'm loving it. But anyways, the book.
The first thing that makes it attractive, considering the genre, is the fact that it's rather short. I mean it's like 32k words I think, some 90 pages or something. Considering some novels I've read in the same genre, I find this generally to be on the plus side, as it's long enough to make it hot and charged and awesome, without stretching thin a plot that was sketchy at best to begin with. This length of book permits enough character building to make it cool, get a healthy dose of one on one action, and move happily on.

The plot is not necessarily a breath of fresh air, I mean we've all seen the up-tight high-powered shark that needs some spanky to unwind, right? And yet somehow it never gets old; just like the uber-awesome hotstud falling for the odd quirky girl and loving her eyes out never gets old as a plot. There's a part of us that just loves the idea so much, we'll go through 1 mil versions of it and love them all if they're done well enough.

But Taylor is not quirky; she's high-powered, she's beautiful, strong, successful. Not a trembling flower waiting for thorough pollination, she's out there making honey, you know? I loved that about her. Adam was interesting too, I mean I was totally into them as characters right off the bat. And I actually liked them more as I read on, their chemistry was very interesting, and they had awesome relationship dynamics. So this is the case of characters I liked on their own and in combination even more. It's a rare case, sadly.

The spanky part of it was hot, not too strong in my opinion; what I mean by that is there was usual tying up, some probing (not giving you details, stop staring :P), but nothing outlandish or disturbing. As far as BDSM erotica goes, this a fairly easy read, in my opinion. It wasn't all smex, there were feelings involved, and here's where we'll go into the part that made this a 4 butterflies, and not the 5 that it could have been.

After reading it, the length wasn't such an advantage as I'd initially pegged it for, and here's the why: I felt that the angle of the author was so good, the characters so charismatic, and their dynamics so interesting, that parts of the book as is felt too short. I mean, there was enough substance to go on a more lengthy exploration, in fact I felt it sort of demanded more exploration. The sort of metamorphosis that their relationship triggered called for a more detailed, longer story.
Don't get me wrong, if you like hot stories, and some power-play, you'll most likely love it as it is (I think), but if you'll like it like I did, you're gonna want to have read more of it. But overall, I say give it a try; it's short, it's hot, and it's sort of sweet, all things considered.

Sapphire by Jeffe Kennedy
(Facets of Passion #1)
My Rating: 4/5 stars
Source: Purchase

**This title is classified as erotica and is for 18+ readers only**

Meet M. Taylor Hamilton, a high-powered, highly successful control freak who lets nothing and no one slip past her cool exterior. Taylor has cultivated a reputation and a life that allows for little beyond her work, the gym, and her home. She fully intends to make CEO within eight years (not the standard ten!) which means there is absolutely no time for a relationship – of any kind. Adam Kirliss is a highly successful business man, top-notch negotiator, and dead sexy individual who has set his sights on none other than the Ice Queen herself, M. Taylor Hamilton. For months he has worked alongside Taylor in fierce negotiations and now that the work is done, it is time to melt the Ice Queen.

The fun begins almost immediately with Taylor and Adam both attending a cocktail party to celebrate the successful conclusion of their business deal. Lots of dirty deeds can happen in dark corners if one allows themselves to explore such avenues. Adam stirs feelings - dark and naughty feelings best left to the night - in Taylor and so she allows him his fun and allows herself one seriously erotic and powerful orgasm. As far as Taylor is concerned, this is a one-time thing, a fling and nothing more; tomorrow morning it is back to business as usual. Adam however has vastly different plans for the Ice Queen and begins another significantly more erotic set of negotiations.

Adam and Taylor’s time together is a highly charged night and day full of sensuality, sex, and eroticism. Adam reveals his kinky side in an effort to thaw the Ice Queen and Taylor experiences a total loss of control that frightens her as much as it excites her. Adam proves to be a skilled and imaginative lover the likes of which Taylor has never encountered. Though she thoroughly enjoys her time with Adam, the loss of control and Adam’s admission of wanting far, far more than a one-night (and day) stand causes her to panic and run.

The Bottom Line: Though I did enjoy this read, I discovered my kink comfort level is not quite as high as what Kennedy offers in Sapphire. Though there is nothing completely disturbing, I found the straight sex scenes with no toys and/or bindings to be far more enjoyable. Taylor is initially a very cold and unyielding character whose transition to a more relaxed and sexual being is worth hanging on for. Adam is initially a bit too domineering for my taste but does reveal that he also has a very caring and kind nature I was glad to see emerge in the end. For those of you who like your reads to end in a HEA, there is indeed one for Taylor and Adam and I must say, it is quite a delicious ending.
One final note: Sapphire is the first novella in the Facets of Passion series though they can be read out of order as I did. Honestly, novella two, Platinum is a far more satisfying read if you are a reader like me who enjoys only the smallest bit (or a different kind) of kink in your reads. :)

Sapphire by Jeffe Kennedy has created a tiny jewel in this quick, enjoyable read with a beautiful, sexy, intelligent, woman on her way to the top of the corporate ladder as her main character. M. Taylor Hamilton is extremely intelligent, talented, no nonsense, fierce business woman with much success and nothing distracts her. In the story Sapphire M. Taylor Hamilton has a very guarded life keeping others at a distance unless it is around the boardroom table.

Adam Kirliss, nonchalant attitude, demanding, passionate, business executive of Jaguar Corporation. Adam has swagger, of course he is handsome, tall with an deep understanding of the game of negotiating inside and outside of any boardroom.

I found the dueling between Taylor and Adam entertaining and of course cheering for Taylor. Taylor never thought she would cave-in for any reason until a date with Adam the gentleman with skills unimaginable to Taylor except in her fantasies. Kirliss is a dom with a talent for getting what he wants easily. Adam provides Taylor with the best moments of her life through a venture of a unbridled sensuously. Adam's skillful strategies crack Taylor's shield of distrust, coldness and emotional deprivation. Kirliss and Taylor enjoy each other and they share a common bond: stubbornness. Their shared attitude of toughness, strong will once releasing a bit of control, permits them to play nicely in Kirliss' playground for a sizzling hot, sexy, moments Taylor had only dreamed about.
Sapphire is a fun, easy read and tastefully written BDSM story.

I wished Ms. Kennedy had provided more character development such as history about Kirliss and what made him such a driven business man and dom. I enjoyed Ms. Kennedy's writing style, use of prose and rhythm.

My recommendation 3.5 stars: Sapphire is a great sexy, easy reading erotic romance for a busy woman on her way to a romantic, relaxing vacation with her passionate significant other.

Read my full review here: Book Review: Sapphire (Jeffe Kennedy)

Sapphire is a short read, but what it lacks in length it more than makes up for in content.

I found myself pushed to my emotional limits while reading Sapphire. Taylor guards herself so carefully, always staying in complete control of everything in her life. When Adam comes along and challenges her, everything she has built up starts to crack. He forces her to acknowledge that she wants to let go, she wants to lose control, and more than that, she wants to be controlled.

Adam sees the submissive in Taylor, or as he likes to call her, M. He recognizes that underneath the hard exterior is a woman who is ready and willing to bend, as long as the right pressure is applied. The first encounter that M had with Adam was hot enough. It touched on a bit of bondage and exhibitionism, as well as a bit of dominance. But when M takes Adam up on his offer to join him for an evening, things really start to heat up.

It was hard for me to like M at first. She was so closed up to the rest of the world that the author couldn't help but close her up to the reader as well. Adam was a little tricky. I liked him, especially his sex appeal. But as the story progressed, I found myself flip-flopping on whether or not I liked him. After I finished the book and sat back to think about it, I realized that I really did like Adam. He was never cruel, never demeaning and always in complete control of both M and himself. He pushed M (and me) to her limits, forcing her to face her fears of losing control. As an experienced dominant, Adam was sure to remind M that all she had to do was say her safe word to bring everything to an end. Throughout the evening, Adam gave M time to process each of the different experiences before moving on to the next. His patience was endearing and made me really like him.

While I have read some BDSM stories before, it wasn't until reading this that I realized what BDSM is all about. Most people think that it's all about spanking and bondage because it's thrilling and sexy. I'm sure it is for most people. But I think that while it is thrilling and sexy on the surface, there's so much more to it than that. When I sit back and think about this story, it's amazing to me how much M's experience with Adam allowed her to grow. Adam was able to strip her down (figuratively speaking), expose her, force her to face her fears and then build her back up again. And I think that is what the root of BDSM is. Finding someone you trust enough to be completely exposed, without fear of ridicule or judgement.

M. Taylor Hamilton is a woman who knows what she wants: success. She has worked hard overcoming her childhood and is on course to make her goals a reality, but all she has in her life is her job, grocery shopping and the gym. While working on a deal, she meets Adam Kirliss. Adam attempts to hit on Taylor, but she thwarts his attempts and he takes it gracefully...or does he?

With the deal complete, the CEO has a party on his yacht, but it gets spiced up when Adam handcuffs her to the railing giving her one of the most amazing orgasms. Taylor shoves off the memories of the night as succumbing to champagne, but Adam won't release her. He sets up a date. A date she can't refuse. The only rule being the safe word he gave her....and obey everything he tells her to do.

I enjoyed this book, but also cringed a lot as I read it. While I knew there would be elements of BDSM, it was very deep for a first encounter. First off, I don't really know how Adam "knows" all about Taylor and what she needs. He pushes her hard, demanding she let loose and give in to him. He does say he doesn't want a slave, which confused me on if this was just a one time thing or if she was becoming his submissive. The library is set up for BDSM, so I would say this was not a one time thing. He is in total control and nothing seems to be taboo or off limits. In fact they never discuss any limits on what he is allowed to do and what she will not let happen. I do applaud the use of a safe word, but I felt at times she needed to use it and was too stubborn to do so.

This book is very dark. It deals with a lot of internal feelings that are bottled up. Adam chisels at Taylor creating cracks in her glossy finish. The things he does to her are harsh and often I was saying her safe word for her. What I think the problem is, is that Taylor really had not been exposed to BDSM and to suddenly be in such a tough situation and take it like someone who has done it a while really concerned me. I know the book is a novella and you can't just drag the book out, but it seemed fast for a first session in BDSM.

While I liked this book, it wasn't the best BDSM book I have read. It does deal with spankings, anal penetration, being tied up, orgasm denial, etc. So be far warned, it's not a typical romance book. It is deeper and darker than a lot of typical romance books. Not to be so harsh on Adam, he does have a lot of redeeming qualities, but you don't see those until after the major scene in the book. It might have been nice to know more about the characters before going so deep. Overall, it was a good book, but definitely not a book everyone would be interested in.

Publish Date: Out Now!
How I got this book: NetGalley

I’m always on the look out for a good BDSM romance to read, especially since my favorite author doesn’t write nearly as fast as I think she should. So when I ran across this Kennedy novella from Carina Press, I jumped on it.

Taylor is a successful business woman, she is driven and motivated and annoyingly prim and proper. When her peer and business contact Adam literally cuffs her to kiss her, Taylor worries that she might be in deep trouble. Once Adam asks her to submit to him in the bedroom, Taylor knows she is in over her head.

Adam has wanted Taylor from the moment he laid eyes on her, but she is a tough nut to crack, and he isn’t willing to settle for a part of her. He will push her limits both sexually and emotionally, but when push comes to shove, will Taylor be ready to open herself to him, or will Adam have pushed too far?

I think that I occasionally go into reading BDSM romance books with an unrealistic expectations. I want the stories to blow me away not only with the romance, but with the emotional depth that comes along with that kind of lifestyle choice. Instead, more times than not I’m left feeling a little shaken and let down, as much as parts of this story were great, there were others that were not.

The times when Adam and Taylor were “scening” in his home were very sexy, but from the emotional standpoint I felt a little let down. Adam didn’t always come across as the most caring and supportive Dom, and at times I wanted to smack him for his BS threats of punishment. After the first few chapters I had such high hopes for Adam. He came across so strong and even a little love sick. I wanted him to be everything for Taylor, instead he feel a little short for me.

Taylor wasn’t much better. She was scared and frightened and let that rule every little moment of her life, to the point that she wasn’t really living anymore. The moments where she submitted to Adam were great, but the second he walked away or she had a moment in her own head she would go back to being scared and small-minded. I wanted a little more growth from her throughout, instead of just taking the gigantic leap at the end of the story.

I was glad that Taylor was the one who initiated their contact again after leaving. It was pleasing to see how she did it, and the ending did help to make Taylor a little more of an enjoyable character.

All in all I wasn’t as impressed as I would have hoped with this Kennedy short. I wanted a little more of an emotional connection from Adam and Taylor, and felt that it was really one-sided on Adam’s behalf.

Let me start off this review by saying that I am not that familiar with BDSM. I don't read too many books about it and know very little about the lifestyle itself. I can't really comment as to the authenticity of the BDSM relationship and can only share my opinion of the characters and story and what I personally felt about it.

The book jumps right into things when Taylor Hamilton, buttoned up businesswoman, finds herself handcuffed to a yacht railing by her colleague Adam Kirliss. Adam's had his eye on Taylor and he's ready to make his move (he really is ready because her brings handcuffs onto the yacht). Adam thinks Taylor needs to loosen up and he's just the right Dominant to do it. After bringing her to a quick orgasm, Adam promises Taylor much more if she'll agree to see him again. Taylor can't resist and the next day she shows up at Adam's house for a weekend of sexual experimentation and maybe something more.

This was definitely a steamy read. If you like your love scenes pretty tame then this isn't the book for you. Taylor and Adam were both likable characters. Taylor is very buttoned up and rigid and it's interesting to watch her evolve and realize that she doesn't always need to be in control. Adam's sexual dominance allows her break down some of her walls. While I definitely felt like they had a sexual connection, the emotional connection was less developed and I wish the book had been a little bit longer so we could have explored that part of the relationship a little more.

Adam was still a bit of a mystery at the end of the book. I wanted to know more about him and his motivations and I am not sure I really got that. And the scene at the end with Taylor seemed a little implausible to me. Again, I don't know much about BDSM, but it seems like Taylor got Adam to give up control pretty quickly when their roles were reversed. To me, it seemed like it would have taken them much longer to get to that point.

Overall I enjoyed this brief, sexy look into the BDSM lifestyle. The writing was good, though I would have liked more time for further character development, especially with Adam. I think readers interested in BDSM romances would enjoy getting their feet wet with this novella.

* I received a copy of this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*

Taylor has a plan for her life and love doesn’t fit into it. Her nick name at work is “mad dog” and she plans to be CEO by year eight of her ten year plan. Everything changes after an encounter with Adam Kirliss during an office party. He challenges her to trust him and just let go; can she let go of control and enjoy the pleasure he can give her?

Adam has been working with Taylor on a project and he is determined that he is going to break through her barriers. He sees the need in her to be mastered but he has to get her to let go of her control. The yacht party was a good start but will she agree to negotiate with him and give him a chance?

Taylor has seen what her mother has gone through over the years just to have a man take care of her. She is determined to that she will not be like her mother and she will make her own way in the world. She has a plan and it doesn’t include love or submission, until she meets Adam. He is a distraction she doesn’t need and the incident on the boat proved her point.

She is a strong, smart woman that knows what she wants out of life. She has a five year plan to work her way up the corporate ladder, then she will think about settling down. She comes across as cold and uncaring but there is a very responsive woman under all those layers, it just takes the right man to bring her out.

Adam is not only successful but he is sexy too. He isn’t looking to settle down but there is something about Taylor that intrigues him. He is determined to peel back her layers and be the one to make her submit. He convinces her to spend the weekend with him with the intentions of breaking through her defenses; he never expected to lose his heart along the way.

The sexual tension between these two was obvious from the beginning. Taylor was stubborn and determined not to submit to Adam but in the end, she was glad she did. They are good for each other and I loved the ending where Taylor had a little fun of her own. The scenes between them are very hot – especially the one on the deck of the boat.

Overall I enjoyed this story and give Sapphire 4 Flaming Hearts.

This is the first book that I have read that includes bondage. I wanted to know what this BDSM was about but had hesitations and didn't want to just pick up a random book about it. So, I chose this one specifically to read because I have gotten to know the author, Jeffe Kennedy, have read another book of hers (Rogue's Pawn) that was not erotic and really liked her writing.

Adam Kirliss has been interested in Taylor Hamilton since the day he met her. The are business associates and have worked together on a lot of business deals. The one time he does try to ask her out on a date, but she refuses. He learns that she does not date at all. He then realizes she is a lot like him and might need a little encouragement to release the inner Taylor that he knows she keeps locked up.

Taylor is a strong, independent woman who needs to be in control all the time. In the board room. In every aspect of her life. She dreams of letting go of that control, but just can't bring herself to do it. At a company party Adam offers Taylor a chance at something in which she simply can't bring herself to say no.

The main scene in this book is what really makes up the a lot of the story. Holy. Cow. It was more than I expected in a lot of ways. More story. More emotions. More intimacy. More love. Yes, I did say love. There were some parts where I thought the hero, Adam, took things a bit too far. He realizes that later, though. I didn't expect Taylor to be so strong either. What I didn't expect was the love Adam had for Taylor. I was surprised at the gentlness he showed for Taylor. Walks on the beach, steaks on the grill, and cuddling. It was so incredibly sweet. Of course, when it involved Taylor's heart, that is when she uses the safe word - Sapphire - and leaves Adam.

It doesn't take Taylor long to realize she is miserable without Adam. He has been the only one to get past her defenses and to her heart. She does finally realize how much she loves Adam and invites him back into her heart the only way she knows how. I thought the ending scene was absolutely perfect for this story.

Taylor Hamilton has always known what she wants, when she wants it. She's climbed up the corporate ladder in hopes of netting herself the CEO position of the company she works for in the long run. Deep inside, she has a plan. One she hopes to make happen as time goes by. Unfortunately, Adam Kirliss won't make that so easy for her.

Adam is her partner at work, and is every bit as gorgeous and delectable as women have claimed him to be. Ironically, she never took notice of him until the night their boss spirited the entire company for a little cruise and office party on his yacht. Her boss has decreed that she let loose, and have a little fun. For Taylor, fun doesn't enter in the equation of her life.

When Adam takes matters into his own hands, and knowingly engages in setting her senses aflame, she soon realizes that she might have gotten more than she bargained for by not playing his game. The man clearly knows how to entice a woman's desires, a certainty she becomes privy to when they share an intimate moment together. In her mind, however, she refuses to give in to his seduction. Her body, on the other hand, has different ideas.

Drawn to the enigmatic Adam, Taylor can't deny that he stirs her senses in more ways than one. She wants him with every bone in her body, yet can't find it within herself to tell him exactly what she wants from him. To her surprise, Adam already knows. He's more than willing to compromise with her when it comes to matters of the heart. Sadly, the thought of losing control is more than that she ever bargained for.

Titillating, and definitely a very steamy read, Sapphire is a story that will leave you wanting to read more. The settings and descriptions in the book are spot on, and give the reader a vivid picture to the world Jeffe has created for her characters. We're able to feel their high's, their low's, their hunger, and the heady passion that runs through their veins. While this is a quite an easy read, it's definitely one that'll incite more than just a reader's curiosity. Definitely recommend it.

This may seem like a weird review, but let me say that it is the highest compliment. Because this is such a great book, I’m writing a crappy review (as in my writing of it, not in I didn’t like the book) – okay, let me explain… LOL

I read a lot of books, and lately have been in kind of a slump, not really caring for most of them and thus not even finishing reading them less reviewing them. And, as I read to review generally, I stop when a “review thought” hits me and take notes on my ereader. It is from these notes that I later write up my reviews.

HOWEVER, opening Sapphire up and reading it, I became so absorbed in the story, so much so, that when it ended, and yes I read it in one sitting, I realized that I had not made one review note. Not one review thought had come to my mind, that is how engrossed in the story I was. I sat there thinking, okay, what will I say about this story now? Seriously, I was thinking, it is all good and I have nothing wonderfully descriptive to say. No review will do it justice!

Okay, I will give it a go… let me think… the characters had amazing depth, especially M./Taylor. Her emotional journey at the hands of a business associate nonetheless, was extreme and extraordinary. Even without all of the back story given, or at least I wanted to know more of it, it was real, devastating at times, and just, wow! What a talented writer Ms. Kennedy is. Even her support characters were wonderful additions to give the reader more information about Taylor and Adam. The settings, especially Adam’s library were wonderful sexual playrooms, even if they were eating out or on a ship, every moment between them was steamy. Really, I could go on, but all I can say is wow! What story! What a writer! This is a fantastic book!!! I was taken away by it! When is the next book coming out?

This was a very intense story from the very beginning about a woman trying to come to terms with her past and accept her womanly side in a man's world. There were quite a few scenes of BDSM used by Adam to gain the affection of Taylor. These scenes were evenly paced throughout the story and were very imaginative. I give the author credit for keeping things spicy. There were times that these scenes overshadowed character development though.

In the case of Adam in particular, once the story was over I felt that I still knew nothing about him. He was purely used to draw Taylor out from behind the wall she'd built. Considering his comfort with BDSM I wish we would have learned more about his background in that world. As it stood, I felt rather cheated by not knowing him better and never felt fully invested in their relationship because of it.

The character of Taylor sees emotion as a weakness. A tough childhood has led to her putting up barriers to protect her heart. This has led to two different sides to herself...M and Taylor. M is from her childhood and stands for her feminine side of Molly. It's this side that Adam is trying to reach. It did become a bit odd for Adam to keep swapping her names but the reason behind it made sense even though it was distracting at times.

This book is long on intensity but is a bit short on character development. I would've liked to have had more background on the characters and interactions with others to better understand who they were. I enjoyed the intensity of the sexual interludes though and that kept me intrigued until the end. Even though this book didn't fully work for me on every level, I still found this an intriguing read and want to read more from this author.

Grade: B+

Sapphire is a short, intense story, easily read in one sitting. The intensity is what drew me in and kept me reading late into the night.

Taylor has no time for real pleasure, instead she finds pleasure working her way up the corporate ladder. One of her most recent triumphs included working with Adam Kirliss whom she intends to keep strictly as a business relationship. Taylor's curiosity is aroused by Adam's boldness and his offer. She's in need of a release from the stress of work and Adam is about to give it to her. Taylor is very typical in her focus on her career, believing it's the only way to achieve her career goals.

Adam Kirliss is far more than he seems, hiding an affinity for BDSM behind his cool predatory gaze. He sets his sights on Taylor and this guy doesn't give up! Seeing how determined he is, Taylor she probably just save herself some time and give in to his demands. When she does, he shows her how he can give her what she wants and needs. Adam plans out Taylor's seduction, leaving nothing to chance. So when she does take him by surprise, it's interesting to see him adjust not only his plan but his thinking.

The sex scenes are smoking hot, with bonus points for creativity! It's obvious Adam is no novice at finding pleasure in dominance. One thing that made this more than one bondage scene after another is seeing Adam and Taylor get to know each other away from the intensity of their sexual play. They have quiet, romantic moments, giving each other glimpses of their vulnerable side.

Overall, I did have some issues with the power plays that went on between Taylor and Adam but in the end, Sapphire proved to be a delicious erotic romance.

Reviewing novellas is hard. I enjoyed this quick little BDSM erotic romance and Kennedy crammed as much character development into it as I think can reasonably fit into a book of this size. Taylor's story arc was well-defined and plausible, but Adam came off as inscrutable. He wants her, he likes her, but we never get much insight into his character--just one brief glimpse of his dreams and desires.

On the other hand, Adam is one of the most believable Doms I've come across in a romance novel. Kennedy understands both the theory and mechanics of bondage and suspension. Without explicitly stating that he's keeping a close eye on Taylor for safety and providing appropriate aftercare, it's clear that he is. Some novels read like a BDSM manual when they try to cover that stuff or worse, ignore it completely. He does make a brief threat to collar her, which seemed inappropriate in the context, but it's a minor quibble compared to the stupid stuff other Doms have gotten up to in books I've read. I also appreciated that Adam is not some kind of wounded soul who has to tie women up to get off, which always drives me nuts. The kinky sex in this book is excellent.

However, I've come to the conclusion that office romances are hard to pull off. Any hint of "no" in a professional setting is hard for me to push past and this book was no exception. I'm glad I did though because it occurs right at the beginning of the book and the rest is delicious.

This was my first of Kennedy's, but I'm confident enough in the writing that I'll try the rest of the series. If you're a fan of BDSM-driven romance and looking for a book that treats kink as wiring rather than a symptom of mental illness, this is an excellent choice.

Today's review is on Sapphire by Jeffe Kennedy

Sapphire is an erotic romance short story that focuses on the life of M. Taylor Hamilton, a successful business woman and Adam Kirliss, the rich and handsome business owner.

While on her bosses yacht, Taylor is yet again hit on by Adam. This time however his approach is much, much different. Up on the secluded upper deck of the yacht Adam handcuffs Taylor to the railing. While in control of the situation, he gives Taylor a "safe word", Sapphire. To stop Adams kinky type seduction all she has to do is utter that one word.

After a joyful sexual release, Taylor agrees to meet with Adam the next day for lunch where she then agrees to meet him that evening. When she arrives at Adams home the "fun" begins. Throughout Adams BDSM seduction all he wants is for Taylor to let down her "ice queen" walls and to stop trying to maintain control of her life. The next morning however she realizes that she just can't, so she scribbles Sapphire on to a piece of paper and runs out of the house.

Ultimately Taylor realizes that she can not get Adam out of her mind or her heart and arranges to proposition Adam in much the same manner that he had on the yacht. Needless to say, Taylor and Adam make an exceptional pair.

A tastefully written erotic story, Sapphire inspires a female reader to just let go and enjoy the moment of sexual experimentation. (as long as it remains safe.)

M. Taylor Hamilton on is now the Vice President of Development and is on her boss's yacht to celebrate the occasion with several others. The boss says you attend you do so even if this sort of thing is not something Taylor would chose to do. She works with Adam Kirliss but has never let anything but business occur, never anything but the proper business woman shows.

Mr. Adam Kirliss gets her to the top level of the yacht and manages to put cuffs on her and cuff her to the rail. He lets her know that he can does want to dominate her and is willing to bet that she wants it too. He gives her a safe word, Sapphire, and any time she wants him to stop all she has to do is say it. She does not know why she won't use the safe word but goes with his demands.

Adam Kirliss is much the same kind of a person as Taylor but he sees something in her that he is determined to uncover. He gets her to agree to a lunch date and afterwards he again gets her to agree to another date where he has made it very clear that he will have total control. She still has her safe word and can quit anytime, so she agrees.

Taylor learns much and experiences much more than she ever expected, something else she learned was that even though she gave in to the control of another she holds a very different kind of power and she plans to use it.

I’m a big fan of Jeffe Kennedy as a person, but have still not had the chance to read much of her work. I follow her on Facebook and Twitter and check out her Tumblr all the time. When I finally got the chance to read Sapphire, I think the fact that I check out her Tumblr helped in my enjoyment of the story. Honestly, I’m a bit burned out on BDSM and the dominant stories. It’s never really been my thing, but I enjoy reading about it at times. It feels like I’ve been reading about it a lot lately and I was afraid that was going to skew my thoughts on Sapphire, but because I could picture everything in my head knowing where Jeffe probably got a lot of her inspiration, I found myself a lot more invested in the whole of the story.

I really liked the banter and the back and forth between Adam and Taylor. Their chemistry was evident from the very beginning. The story was pretty predictable with the controlling alpha female needing to find someone who would take control from her in the bedroom. But it really worked here and there did seem like there was more depth to this story even though it was familiar. I really felt a connection to Adam and Taylor and their budding relationship. I loved Adam both in and out of the bedroom. He was dominant, yet sweet and all he really wanted was to get to know the real M. Taylor Hamilton.

I am really excited to read more by Jeffe Kennedy. Hopefully I can do it sooner rather than later.

Taylor Hamilton is a balls to the wall ice queen who forces everyone to follow her rules. She learned the hard way that is better to control every aspect of her life rather than leaving anything to chance or to someone else's whims. One man threatens that control, Adam Kirliss.

Adam has wanted Taylor since the moment he laid eyes on her. What did he see? Someone who was just like him and maybe wanted the same things he did. But to get through to Taylor, he has to break through that icy exterior to find the passionate woman she has buried deep inside. The woman he likes to think of as M. Can he break through to her and show her there's more to life? Only time and a little spanking will tell.

Adam was a character that, as a reader, I wanted to connect with. You could tell there was so much more to this man (other than the BDSM scene in his library) and I really wanted to know what it was that made Adam tick. Unfortunately, we didn't get all that much character development on him.

I didn't like Taylor. Couldn't connect with her and really didn't like how she acted as if she hated what Adam was forcing her to do, yet secretly loved it. If you like it, fess up to liking it and then be pissed at him later for making you reveal such a secret.

If you like a little intense BDSM with your boardroom romance, this one is for you.

WHOA!!! HOTNESS HERE!

I don't a lot of (if any) erotica so my opinion comes from the perspective of a newbie of this genre. This is my second read by this author and I must admit,I do enjoy her style.

I found Sapphire to be a steamy snapshot into the BDSM lifestyle for the two lead characters. I enjoyed this short story. It moves along at a quick pace, yet the characters are developed enough for you to get to know them and buy in to the scenario that is created for you.

The heroine is a bit more fleshed out than the hero, but given the length constraints, I could overlook this. Yes, I would have LOVED more insight in the hero's past, how he became such a "learned pupil" of the craft, and what got him started down this path (because really, he's hot like that-lol); but I had learned enough about him through his interactions with the heroine to make me believe the journey they took together during this particular time in each other lives.

The ending came together a bit quickly, but I was left with the sense that the leads got their HEA, yet knew they had some "getting to know you" time to put in with each other.

So, if you're looking for a quick, HOT read (don't say I didn't warn you), I don't think you'd be disappointed. The author packs QUITE the punch (IMO) with this one.

Holy hot sauce. Looking for 100 pages of pure erotica goodness? I think I found what you need. "Sticks and stones may break my bones but chains and whips excite me" played through my head while reading this book. Now now now .. come on... Right.. sorry. Now keep in mind this is a shorter book, so we don't have too much of an in depth look at both characters. Taylor, yes. Adam, not really. Which is okay. Surprisingly the way this is written its okay. There were things in this book that surprised me. I read bdsm and erotica and some of the things in here... intrigued me. For example, the phallus surprised me. It was a first. I may have to do a little more research on this.. strictly for research, of course. Like with Taylor, I was a Virgin for that too Adam. Well done. Adam has to strip Taylor done emotionally to be with her. To do that he has to take her choices away to get in through the ice fortress she has built around her. He forces her, forces her to accept what she likes. Forces her to take a look at her self. And forces her to open up to him and what it would be like between them. Of course, who doesn't start a relationship off by handcuffing someone to a yacht and giving the other person an insane orgasm? Holy crap balls Kirliss. Holy crap balls. This was one hot steamy read.

Woowza!!! This was a steamy series! Yummy quick reads that were deliciously erotic!

The books are a series but not really connected in a manner that makes you read them in order. I do not usually agree that a series can be read stand alone but this is an exception.

The first book Sapphire was highly erotic! I was with the story from the beginning to the end! I loved the characters and was really rooting for them! Taylor had a tight hold on her control reigns and it took all of Adam's charm and charisma to bring her around! And oh Lord the steam factor!! There is a really sexy scene in the beginning with hand cuffs that had me fanning myself!

The whole series is very well done and sweetly erotic. There is BDSM play but it wasn't overly heavy. More along the lines of kinky play than hardcore stuff. They are all fairly quick read being more novella length, I would have loved them to be a touch longer. They felt a little rushed and I really felt there was more to explore in all the relationships.

In the end great story telling with engaging characters. Yummy cover art! Ms Kennedy has definitely made my stalking...um, authors to watch list!
