Damon Torrance has led a charmed life, his family owns a very sucessful chocolate business, he's devastatingly handsome, people (especially women) are drawn to his charisma and it seems everything he touches turns to gold. Of course, what would any sucessful businessman be without his faithful assistant. Natasha Jennings has finally had enough after 10 years of being Damon's assistant and bailing him out of trouble he has finally one a step too far and despite the feelings she has for him she quits and it seems she has taken Damon's luck with her...

If I could describe this book in three words it would be: funny, warm & cute. I have never read anything by Lisa Plumley before and I don't really read that much contemporary romance but this one was well worth cracking open.

The characters were charming and funny and I was rooting for them all the way through, I loved that they were such opposites and watching Natasha's responsible side run off on Damon was as adorabble s watching Natasha taking on some of Damon's happy-go-lucky attitude.

What I liked most about this book though was the humour, stick me with a book that makes me laugh out loud then it is almost certainly guranteed to get a higher rating and this was a great book to lounge around in the sun and enjoy the light hearted fun.

A great read that I would definitely recommend and I will be reading more Lisa Plumley in the future.

I was about 100 pages in and I realized that I did not care about these shallow characters and I wasn't going to waste any more time reading this drivel!

Melt Into You by Lisa Plumley

I am trying to understand what I have missed in this novel since I’m so unhappy with it. I don’t mind allowing the author to make me stretch my disbelief. However, the point that this author forces the issue makes me feel like overly stretched taffy. I am ready to snap.

When Natasha steps into the office of her new boss for the very first time, she finds him in a very compromising picture on top of his desk with a woman who was supposed to be interviewing him. So Natasha puts her foot down and sets up conditions in order for her to feel comfortable with the situation. You see, Damon is charismatic, sexy, bad-boy, egotistical and just plain annoying.

Natasha has finally had enough-enough breaking up with his girlfriends for him , bailing him out of jail and difficult situations and covering his butt. She finally quits while Damon is in the midst of a very difficult situation. And with Natasha gone, Damon’s luck has fallen into a spiral. He can no longer talk or finesses his way out of bad things, and oh my so many bad things are happening to him.
Strangely very good things are happening to Natasha now.

What bothered me the most is, I must be missing a few pages in my download or perhaps I skimmed something important…but how can anyone not notice that their personal assistant is pregnant or had gone through a divorce? This is just one of the flaws I found with this book.

Damon is written like he is slightly learning impaired and I wonder how can someone so shallow, inane and sexually promiscuous have the time to run a multi-million dollar company. Ms Plumley’s writing style or rather ‘voice’ does not change when she is writing for Damon. He speaks somewhat like a twenty-two year old girl (a bit like Natasha). In addition, occasionally he speaks and has the libido of a 16-year-old boy.

Damon and Natasha both grow towards the end of the novel, but not enough to keep me interested.

When I started reading this book, I thought it it was pretty much 3 stars for me. The time-skip became annoying, the characters became frustrating, and for the life of me, I couldn't see what Natasha saw in Damon.

He was irresponsible, slept with any remotely attractive female he came across, and constantly took advantage of Natasha's kindness. Needless to say, in the beginning, the hero did not endear himself to me. Even more so when the heroine had always (irritatingly so), found the heart in her to forgive him.

At some point in the middle, something happened.
The lucky, annoyingly smug, carefree Damon became unlucky. His house got flooded. His credit card funds were cut. He had nowhere to sleep. I'm pretty sure this twist was intended, and I could predict what would happen 50 pages before it did. Still, I like how things went from that point on.

Was this the most well-written book I've read? No. It's not perfect. Sure, it's pretty unrealistic. But I enjoyed it a lot, and that's where it counts. Bits of humour were everywhere, and Damon's constant attempts to prove himself made me go "awww". There were pull-out-my-hair moments, where I wanted to bang both their heads together.

The ending was sweet. There was no bad guy in this book. Not really. That may be a bad thing or a good thing if you want to go for something light (which I did ^^). The complication arose from character flaws, and the resolution is practically acting on their own realisation, which should've occurred to them earlier, but were both too stubborn to admit.

I picked up this book (or more like temporarily stole it from my friend since she reads slow and she stole my kindle first) because a friend had bought it for a travel book. That is just what it is. A quick, easy read that has is humorous for the most part and witty. However 2/3 through, it falls flat. I wanted it to end quickly, but seemed to continue onward.

Livre acheté en 2012, lu en 2023... ça a bien mal vieilli

uggg could not get past the first chapter. Maybe the male character redeems himself/grows but he is just such a pig. I could not go on with the book. And maybe the female starts out good, but part of the premise of the plot is that she goes "wild". So whatever, no thanks

Review Courtesy of Dark Faerie Tales

Quick & Dirty: A book of tasty treats.

Opening Sentence: Damon Torrence believed in a lot of things.

The Review:

Melt Into You is a bittersweet, pun absolutely unavoidable, tale of love, not unlike the traditional storyline of an addict and the woman who has loved him and always will love him, secretly anyway. And by addict I don’t mean the drugaholic type, I mean addicted to the high life – the fast money, faster cars and even faster women. And, as an added bonus, complete obliviousness to those he is supposedly closest to. Come. On. Seriously, how can you spend every working moment, and even non-working ones with the same person and know next to nothing about them. This man’s very-personal-personal-assistant was hired just after her honeymoon, but by the end of the book she had not only gotten a divorce, but she also has an eight-year-old son.

Damon Torrance, or “Demon Damon” as one of the characters in the book likes to call him, is heir to the throne of a chocolate making empire. Though to give credit where credit is due, he did help that itty bitty shop expand into the vast kingdom it is today with smarts and web skills. And of course, his handsome visage didn’t hurt either. But this good ol’ boy’s luck takes a nasty turn for the bad and he is asked to take a break from the job. The events following his worst day ever are truly tragic, and for that you kind of want to feel sad for him. But, I don’t know if that’s truly what finally made me actually like him. I’m not really sure I did through most of it, not until towards the end of the book, where they finally start to find their happily-ever-after. Not that he needs to be liked for the story to be good, just sayin’.

Now, Natasha Jennings is likeable from page 1. Well, actually somewhere around page 5 (I read the ARC copy) when she first runs into Damon as he is preparing to “hump like a bunny” with a reporter…right on his desk…in his office…that he shares with his father. It is then that she feels that initial spark that leads her to fall for the man who will be her boss. This bit of spark lends itself to many a sleepless night, and possibly the eventual end of her marriage. So, when this bad boy asks for one too many favors, one too many times, she calls it quits. And miraculously, she finds herself smack dab in the middle of the best streak of good luck she has ever known. She wins at slots, her car starts running better, and magic lawn fairies have even tidied up her lawn. Truly amazing.

But there is still one thing weighing heavy on her heart, Damon, and her love for him. So when he shows up on her doorstep, homeless and injured, she feels she can do no less than help him. And in the process, maybe help herself…to a large helping of Damon that is. And who wouldn’t after finding out that this bad boy has turned good. Because, from the sounds of things, this guy is H. O. T.

This is my first Lisa Plumley novel, but I have added the rest of her books to my personal TBR list. For me, this was a nice break from the abnormal, or paranormal anyway, and I think that every gal needs a little love story like this one, every once in a while.

Notable Scene:

“If you were me,” he called to Jason cheerfully as he stepped out and grabbed a towel to wrap around himself, “you’d buy yourself a new Porsche, fill every room of your house with gold-plated calculators, then get personal with every pretty girl in sight.”

“Nope.” Jason rounded the corner. Upon seeing that the steam-filled bathroom wasn’t featuring a full-on shower-time peep show, he leaned in the doorway. He crossed his arms. “If I were you,” he argued, “I’d take another look at Natasha. Then I’d beg her to forgive me for being such an ass, and I’d try my damndest to make things right somehow.” He gave Damon a meaningful grin. “Then I’d buy myself a new Porsche.”

“You now, you probably could afford a Porsche right now. It’s not as though we’re skinflints at Torrance Chocolates.”

“I know. But our portfolio took a hit in the economic downturn, and Amy’s concerned about retirement. So—“

“Retirement?” Damon wiped condensation off the colossal, gilded-edged mirror. His reflection stared back, bleary-eyed and bleak. Damn. He really needed some sleep. “You’re thirty-six.”

“It’s never too soon to plan. Compound interest being what it is, the bulk of the dividends won’t be fully realized until—“

Damon groaned. “Cut the financial talk, Egghead.” He made a time-out T with his hands. “You’re making me reconsider my stance on coffee.”

“Good. You should reconsider your stance on a lot of things.”

Hell. “Who are you, Jiminy Cricket?” In the mirror, Damon met his friend’s gaze. “Did I drunk-dial you and ask for a lecture? Is annoying, know-it-all ass-hattery on sale today?”

FTC Advisory: Kensington/Zebra provided me with a copy of Melt Into You. No goody bags, sponsorships, “material connections,” or bribes were exchanged for my review.

Book: Melt Into You

Author: Lisa Plumley

Series: None

Genre: Contemporary romance

Summary: Administrative assistant Natasha Jennings has spent years getting her boss, chocolatier Damon Torrance, out of one scrape after another. Finally, Natasha gets fed up with Damon and quits her job. Damon has always counted on Natasha, and he realizes just how lost he is without her. After he experiences a run of bad luck, Damon becomes determined to get Natasha back. The long-smoldering sparks between them soon ignite, although Natasha thinks that Damon will break her heart and Damon wonders if he can really be the kind of man that Natasha deserves …

First line: Damon Torrance believed in a lot of things.

Cover thoughts: A cute cover, although I’m not crazy about the mix of pink and red.

What I liked: The characters. Natasha and Damon were both funny, likable characters, and it was nice seeing them flirt, tease, and eventually fall in love. Natasha made Damon want to grow up and be more responsible, while being with Damon let Natasha cut loose from some of her responsibilities and have some fun. I always like it when characters compliment each other like that. I also enjoyed reading about the chocolate business that Damon and his family run.

What I didn’t like: Damon. At times, he came off as a little too clueless and obtuse, like the fact that he doesn’t realize that Natasha has a son or that she got divorced. I didn’t think it was very believable that he wouldn’t know these things, given how long and closely the two of them worked together. Also, Natasha and Damon’s voices were very similar, and it seemed like I was reading about the same character in places. I also would have liked to have seen more info about the chocolate business.

Overall: A fun contemporary romance that should appeal to folks looking for a lighter read.

Would I read this author again: Yes. Plumley has a fun, breezy writing style.

My grade: C

Melt Into You has an interesting premise with a hero who runs a chocolate empire and his assistant he relies on to help him get out of every jam conceivable. But when Damon has a case of identity theft and his father is sick of his antics, he needs Natasha now more than ever. But Natasha has resigned from her post and wants more in life. Damon won’t be deterred and ends up moving into her house, not realizing she has a young son and she’s divorced. Damon has one rule he has lived by- don’t fool around with married women. But after finding out that Natasha is single, he’s on the prowl to seduce her, and even though Natasha knows falling for Damon is the worst mistake she can make, she can’t help herself because her decade old crush for her former boss has evolved into full blown love.

I’ve enjoyed Lisa Plumley's contemporaries in the past, but Melt Into You missed the mark for me. Damon is beyond clueless and it’s not sexy or cute. How in the world could he not know Natasha was pregnant and had a pre-teen son, especially when they work in such close proximity together? There was a mention how Damon was away traveling at the time of Natasha’s pregnancy, but for 9 months and then when she’s on maternity leave? It just doesn’t add up.

I couldn’t see why Natasha would be so attracted to Damon who proudly admits he enjoys sleeping around and likes to play more than work. Damon is a lazy SOB and an immature, spoiled manbrat. Natasha’s son has more common sense is more mature than Damon. I really didn’t believe for a minute he would give up his player ways because of Natasha and wouldn’t grow bored with her. Also, there was barely any involvement in the chocolate end and it seemed Damon’s profession was tacked on just to grab reader interest.

Melt into You is pass from me and a big disappointment.

Natasha Jennings takes a job as assistant to Damon Torrance, heir to a chocolate company on the verge of meteoric rise. Natasha has done her homework and if she has to give up her dreams to support her husband’s then she wants to help Torrance Chocolates rise to the top, taking her with them.

Damon Torrance lives by the mantra all work and no play makes for a dull person. He considers himself lucky, he plays hard, works little and beds every woman who gives him the come on, which is all of them.

This is a well-written book that has moments of humor and insight. However, the characters of Natasha and Damon are not very likeable. Damon is an ass. His antics have him constantly needing bailed out by Natasha and he’s a man-whore. He beds anything in a skirt in any place he feels like and to hell with what anyone thinks of him because he’s Mr. Perfect who can charm his way out of anything. We rarely see him do a lick of work in this book. I couldn’t stand him. He becomes a bit more likeable and actually seems human at the end.

Natasha has a thing for Damon so she puts up with his crap for 10 years. He never noticed she was pregnant or that she went through a divorce. Really?! He never thinks about how very much she does for him, yet she continues to be his doormat. Until the day she finally leaves. I really began to like her then. But then she had to take him into her home and, here we go again, with Mr. Charm getting exactly what he wants.

They redeem themselves a bit at the end, but it would’ve been nice if Damon hadn’t been so Perfect from the start and Natasha less of a doormat. He was beyond irritating, she a little less so. Since this is my first Lisa Plumley book, I’ll read a few more just to see if this was a one-off for me.

Melt into You by Lisa Plumley
Grade: C-

“I’d like to introduce your secret artistic side to my blatant seductive side. I think they’d hit it off.”

Melt into You takes place over ten years as we watch Damon Torrance, a notorious playboy and owner of Torrance Chocolates and Natasha Jennings, his long time faithful assistant, work on their relationship. After ten years Natasha is done picking up after Damon and smoothing over the trouble he causes. Without Natasha Damon’s care free life starts to falls apart and he convinces himself the only way to get it back is to get Natasha back. Damon is determined to change his ways but for once Natasha is not buying what Damon is selling.

Melt into You didn’t work for me for a lot of reasons. My main reason is Damon. He is one of the most arrogant, stupid and self centered characters I’ve ever read about and I can’t stand him. He worked with Natasha for ten years and knew nothing about her including that at one point she was pregnant and had a child. I had such a hard time with this book because I didn’t want Damon and Natasha to be together. It’s hard to read a romance book when you’re cheering against the couple reaching their happily ever after.

The book was cute but not for me. I didn’t find anything great or special about any of the characters and was very happy when the book ended. I really wanted to see Damon grow up and own his past behavior and that sadly never happens. I really wanted to enjoy this book and get lost in a good love story but it didn’t happen and if that’s what you’re looking for I would suggest reading something other than Melt into You.

Melt Into You by Lisa Plumley
Contemporary Romance –May 1st, 2012
4 stars

Natasha Jennings is the smart capable and entirely indispensable assistant to the playboy Damon Torrance. But his last outrage has her turning in her notice of resignation, and from that point onwards, things only seem to get better. However, for the eternally lucky Damon Torrance, that is the start of his descent for everything to go wrong. He soon causes scandal and is put on leave by his own father. Things get worse when his wallet gets stolen and he finds has no place to live! Damon realizes he has to get Natasha back. But what he doesn’t know is that what he really wants is her love.

This story is laugh out loud funny and totally implausible. Before Natasha, Damon slept with all of his assistants, but Natasha was married -so hands off! Natasha gets a divorce soon after and hides it from Damon for years. How is that possible that he not know? Also Natasha has an eight year old child. How could Damon miss that she was pregnant and had a child after knowing her and working with her all these years? Wouldn’t he realize she was on maternity leave? But these facts seem to blow by because the story is so darn funny and outrageous. The antics Damon gets into and the unpredictability of the storyline make it very amusing.

Entertaining and tons of laughs –this book defies logic but still makes you keep reading it for the sheer hilarity and mind-boggling craziness of plot and outrageous one liners.

Rating 3.5/5

I have to admit as I started this book, I was ready to give it a very low rating through the first handful of chapters. It did not start out well and I had a very hard time liking our main character, Damon. He's a playboy millionaire that goes through women and drink like that. My dislike for him was so great, I was ready to give this book a DNF just to be done with him.

But the saving grace of it all is that it's a Lisa Plumley book and I've enjoyed some of her books previously and was hoping for more. Thank goodness I stuck it out.

For me, the book doesn't even become remotely interesting until Damon goes to visit Natasha for the second time. Everything before that was just information. Once they started bantering and teasing and we really got to know what the real Damon thought and hoped, it became infinitely easier to like him and believing that he deserved happiness with Natasha.

I wish the beginning which was mostly a glimpse of how Damon and Natasha's relationship came to be was a little easier to read, more redeeming for Damon but I have to say the end was highly satisfying.

I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this book until its final pages. I found myself frustrated with Natasha's weakness in regards to Damon's shenanigan's. He was a player of the worst sort who had a serious "All fun and no work" complex. What helped me continue reading and glad that I did was the humorous situations that Damon repeatedly finds himself getting into. And he so rightly deserved.

But he realizes almost a little too late that the love he was searching for had been right in front of him the entire time.

The story lacks originality in that respect, but I was entertained nonetheless...Plumley writes witty and laugh-out-loud dialogue and makes it work.

And it was refreshing to see how Natasha and her young son coped with his severe food allergy--something that more and more kids and adults are facing today.

If you are looking for realism, you might wanna skip this. Although implausible in many aspects, I loved its quirkiness and humor and continued reading just for the sheer pleasure of its zany characters.

3.5 stars for me.

I was drawn to this book by the chocolate theme, but it's really more of a 'discovering yourself' book. Damon is not your typical hero. He starts off like a spoiled, self-centered, party boy, and only after he's lost almost everything does he start to mature. He's harmless, but very much a boy for the first half of the book. When he starts trying to prove himself to Natasha, then he grows up. Even after that point, I kinda thought Natasha could do better.

I gave it 3.5 stars because Damon's foibles aside, he was still a hero I haven't read about a million times before. There was a thread of uniqueness running through the book that helps it stand out from the contemporary romance field. If you are looking for a quick, foodie-related, read, this is your book, but I'd library it.

I didn't love this book. I didn't quite dislike it. I'm somewhere in between. The characters are okay, but I didn't love either of them. There are some major inconsistancies in the plot that made me insane.

Supposedly, the hero has no idea that the heroine has a child. FOR 7 YEARS of her employment with him. Somehow, he missed her entire pregnancy (explained by saying he was away on trips alot....) Assuming that the inevitable childcare problems were handled by the conveniently placed friendly ex-mother-in-law (not that the story indicated as such, but that's the only explanation I could come up with), I still cannot buy the boss having NO IDEA that a child existed. What the hell did she do about maternity leave? You have file paperwork for that, right? I don't know about California, but you do in CT. SO, this was a GLARING problem for me.

*3.5/5*

This book was a little far fetched but it really is just a good time read. It doesn't take much to read through this book and if your looking for smiles this a great book to do that. It will keep you smiling with Damon's wild antics and Natasha's easy manner. She's a bad girl in a librarians clothing.

I don't really have much to say about this book because it wasn't the kind of book that you ponder or for hours after, it's what I call a feel good read, you read it and it gives you something fun and crazy to imagine . The characters are funny, passionate and sweet. The Hero in this book sounds so delicious, I wouldn't mind meeting him in real life....

Cheers!

Here's to great Heroes!!!

I wasn't crazy about the beginning, I really liked the middle, and again, not crazy about the end. Her writing style threw me off a few times too with her...

Repetative use of repetition...

I love that you....I love that you...I love that you over and over in the same paragraph. I realize that this is used by the character as emphasis for the depth of their feelings, but to use it over and over again, kind of irritating.

The besdt part of the book is Damon off by himself. Left to flounder in the world without his sol called luck. Its when he was the most real and the most endearing.

A light amusing read that tugs on the heartstrings a little (amybe just in the middle). Not bad.

Natasha Jennings puts up with a lot from her extremely self centered playboy boss, Damon Torrence. She finally has enough and walks away. He quickly realizes he can't get through life without her and does everything he can to prove he can change.

This book was pretty much everything I hoped it would be after reading the synopsis. It's a light, funny read, filled with snappy dialogue and just perfect for the beach. Damon was so self centered, he was completely unaware of ANYTHING that did not pertain directly to him, so it was kind of fun watching his meltdown and transformation into a decent human being.

I really enjoyed it, and look forward to reading more books by
MS. Plumley.
