It took me a long time to scan through all the entries in this book, but I'm glad I did. This book is the modern iteration of Fowler's Modern English Usage: it was also edited by Reader's Digest, which assures its readers that only the most relevant information is included.
Right Word at the Right Time also doesn't fail to infuse its writing with sprinklings of humor and wit, and this makes the reference book all the more readable. Although it leans more towards British English, the guidelines that are stated in the book still remain pertinent even today.
The entry for 'meretricious' is particularly enlightening.
