I really enjoy reading about the Muromachi period and this volume specializes in this. John Hall was a leading Japan historian in the US.

The era before the Tokugawa was one of chaos but also growth, which this volume documents.

Hideyoshi is one of the most fascinating figures in Japanese history and this volume details his unification of Japan, but subsequent fall.
