In this comprehensive reference manual, two leading occult researchers present step-by-step instructions, some never before in print, for developing the most basic and essential skills for magical practitioners of any tradition--creating thought forms through astral manipulation.
Magical Use of Thought Forms includes sections on the structure of reality and on new visualization techniques to build correct astral images for highly potent magical work, from creating a Familiar or Guardian to building a Memory Palace, Also revealed in this extraordinary guide: The occult art of observation How to build up desire as fuel for a potent astral engine The three-point location of occult power in the physical brain The creation of advanced astral structures including Godforms and angelics, audial images, and astral landscapes
The most spectacular aspect of this book is the instruction given for the performance of the legendary alchemical experiment: the creation of the homunculus, an animated form that can last up to several hours.
Dolores Ashcroft-Nowicki is a third-generation psychic who has worked with magic since childhood. She studied under W.E. Butler and with him was a founding member of the Servants of the Light School of Occult Science, of which she was Director of Studies.
When I first read the statement that thoughts have a shape, I thought how fascinating. As I tried to imagine what a thought looked like I quickly realized that this was akin to a life long blind person trying to imagine the "shape" and color of a flame. I must confess that by the time I read this book I had read other literature on the subject, and I was armed with the necessary mental tools. The book Thought forms by C,W Leadbeater has a gallery of some of the more common thought forms that people think, such as grief, anger, hatred, envy. This book talks about how to responsibly create thought forms. A curse hex, jinx, whammy, and evil eye are all thought forms that are deliberately made and sent to harm another person. The thought form has quasi-intelligence like that of a Mosquito. If an attacking insect is knocked away, it will try another line of assault, a thought form acts the same way. When you think ill of another person you are in effect sending a negative thought form to that person, and you are held accountable, aka bad karma. Like wise when you think good of a person, you are sending a beneficial thought form to them that promotes serendipity and feelings of well being, this is known as a blessing. The book describes how this is done by the use of astral and etheric matter. Chapters 11, 12, and 13 offers techniques on how to develop the necessary skills to effectively control higher matter with your thoughts. The book also touches a little on nightmares, and how thought forms are the "monsters" behind nightmares. They can take on any shape of character the thinker thinks, and because all creations seeks to be reunited with its creator, the creature/thought forms tries to get back inside the person who created it, "you", and it seems like it is chasing you. With a thought you can disperse it, or ask it why it was created if you want to have resolution. The text also talks about the mechanics or science of healing, and how it is done by the manipulation of etheric matter. The person's mind is focused on the energy of the other person's etheric body. The various impediments to the correct flow of energy (bad health) are seen and unblocked. In chapter 15 there is instructions on how to build dream landscapes that are stable enough to remain even after you wake up. These dream landscapes can also last for years, and others can use them. I found this text to be fun to read, as well as refreshingly informative.
If you want to see what thought forms look like , you can visit http://www.anandgholap.net/Thought_Fo... . Check out the thought form # 34. Does that not look like the head dress of a magician ? Also look at fig # 23, how often have you seen this in cartoons ? Remember this book was first published in 1906, before cartoons were made.
This is an excellent book, extremely well written, and one of those non-fiction books I would even describe as "charming", not to mention vivid and fascinating. I wasn't really that interested in the subject matter when I first started, but they have really touched me to the point where I have a new-found respect for "true" magik. The practical exercises were interesting. This book is great for beginner or intermediate magicians. In fact, I would recommend it to anyone interested in esoteric practices.
The first four chapters are useless, and the mythology of the authors didn't suit me. However, it is a must for all who are serious about Magikal practice. A true tome of authetentic Magik.
I've recommended this book to so many people IRL so time to do that for the internet. It will forever be a reference and technique guidebook for me.
It's important to approach this book with an open mind especially if you don't consider yourself a "magician." As they say, take what works, leave the rest. Some of the concepts in this book are exactly the same used in various coaching courses where you are encouraged to dream your reality. All things are created twice - once in thought, and then in physical reality. So why not take the techniques in this book and apply them to your life? Your life is just your own thought form. The Universe is psychological.
You can also read this book and trip out that we all share the same reality and agree that tables are solid or that we are weaving in and out of parallel universes all the time but that's not really the point.
Using principles of science, math, physics, biology, hermetic qabalah, and more; the authors weave together new ways of thinking about your reality and techniques to give it a try. I really loved learning the memory palace technique. Be observant and curious!
And don't ignore the Appendixes, I highly recommend working with Apprendix D.
It was an odd little book. I could see where they were going with it. For me the value is placed in giving the reader a different perspective on western culture and cultivating the intellect, memory, skill in visualization, etc
This great book helps unpack thought forms and their magical uses. It is both informative and suggests action steps to improve your metaphysical prowess. If you work with thought forms or want to add this to your practice, check this book out.
I’ve been reading this book on and off for years, and it feels symbolic that I finally finished it 3 days after my 27th birthday… 2+7 = 9, a year of completion. Enjoyed this. Found it in a little free library and it seemed to call out to me. Xx
Pedantic and pontificating, there are some nuggets of genuine technique and interesting theory mixed into too much storytelling fluff and personal aggrandizement.
