She moved to the United Kingdom by way of Kindertransport and was educated in England and Wales. Watts earned degrees in English literature and modern history at Cardiff University.

Heartbroken boy has to leave his beloved dog behind when he and his mother move to a building that does not allow pets, so he invents an imaginary dog who helps get his real dog back. Good story with a happy ending.
