Studenstein

Rate this book
Book two in the Love-Bots series.

A man built for sex… A woman who wants more…

Freedom fighter Shani Brown is determined to drag the ungrateful Royce back to her team in Seattle. Despite his denial of mistreatment, she wants to give him a chance at a better life. Due to her horrific past as an unlicensed love-bot, Shani never plans to have sex again. But Royce’s makers punish him remotely with crippling pain. His only escape is to orgasm. Never one to turn her back on a job, Shani soon finds herself servicing him—and soon after, caring for him.

Love-bot Royce Harden wasn’t looking to be rescued, especially not from the San Francisco BDSM club where he was having a perfectly good time. But rescued he was—by a hellcat bent on delivering him to her people. As Royce starts to trust Shani, he begins to dream of freedom. But freedom comes with a price. Royce must face his vanity, his makers, and even the loss of his sexual upgrades if he’s going to be the man Shani deserves.

**WARNING: This review is intended for readers 18 and older. It contains coarse language and adult themes. If you think you may be offended, you might want to skip this one. **

After spending 15 minutes trying to find a tactful way to say this, I have given up. So I'm just going to come out with it: Reading about a woman screwing a guy in the ass with a strap-on dildo is not generally my cuppa tea. That being said, if it doesn't bother you --or if it kind of floats your boat-- "Studenstein" is actually a pretty entertaining novella.

Our heroine, Shani, is a reanimated corpse who was brought back to life to be a sex-slave. She now works with others of her kind to free those still enslaved by the corporations who created them and programmed them for pleasure. As the story begins, she is on a mission to rescue Royce, a sex-bot who doesn't even realize he needs saving. Once she spirits him away, she discovers that he experiences serious pain if he can't have an orgasm every so often. Unfortunately, he can't feel his dick, so that really limits his options.

Shani is very wary of sex. In fact, she hasn't touched a man since she gained her freedom. But she is willing to strap on the, er, strap-on... to give Royce the release he needs. Frequently. The end goal is to get him to her people, who can remove the devices that allowed his creators to control him.

The novella has pretty solid world building, especially considering its length. Like I said, the female topping didn't really push my hot buttons. But I did like the dynamic between Shani and Royce. Shani is empathetic without being maudlin. And despite some of the darker themes, there are definite moments of levity. This was my favorite:

"She felt like a princess descending her throne. A zombie princess, getting ready to fuck a guy in the ass in the kingdom of a crappy motel room."

That is pretty funny.

It turns out that this is actually the second installment in a series following the undead sex-bots. But this works easily as a stand-alone. I'm kind of struggling to rate this one, but it was certainly fun to read. 4 stars.

Uniquely Creative!

Wow, the Zombie Underground is at it again in this series where the leaders Frank and Q-Ter send their freedom agent Shani on mission to save Royce, a Love-Bot or should I say "reanimated human built as slave or lab rat” from the evil zombie factory call Synadate that create these slaves.

This was another story that was fast paced and so full of action I couldn’t put it down. The interaction between the characters is electrifying and humorous as hell. Warning! The sex scenes may be a little shocking for some as there is a sexual scene where the female Shani uses a strap on dildo, anal sex, and relief of pain enduring methods to cure Royce inflicted short circuit pain. For me I totally loved it.

This is one series I can say is very unique and creative as the Zombie Underworld evolves and rescues love-bots to free them from slavery. The bonding emotions between the characters make it constantly interesting and bring the story alive visually on the pages. The HEA endings has me starving and craving for more Free Zombies. Great read!

This is Harris’s second installment in the very sexy stein Love Bots series. After having read both books in the series I can confidently tell you that they can be read as a stand-alone and not in any specific order. There was not any information presented in one or the other that was pertinent to the other book. I love that the steins have feelings and distinctive personalities. They are not what I picture as zombies. Indeed they are reanimated corpses. The fact that they begin thinking for themselves shortly after the link to their handlers is severed gives them that piece of humanity that won’t allow me to see them as zombies.

Shani is on a mission from Zombie Underground to acquire one of Synadate’s Love-Bots. This assignment reminds her too much of her past, a past that she wishes she had never experienced. Shani was an illegally made Love-Bot where she was used and abused as an unlicensed sex slave. After escaping that life she has sworn off any sexual contact.

The programming that some steins are programmed with does not allow them the choice of free will, but the same programming has the stein brain washed into thinking that they want this life. Royce seems to think he likes that he is Love-Bot working at a BDSM club. So when the sexy stein from the bar tries to persuade him into following her to his freedom he resists. Trouble arises quickly as the farther he gets away from his handlers he begins to experience the fail safes they have installed in him to assure that he never tried to run off.

Royce and Shani soon find that to relieve Royce from the pain he needs to experience sexual release. There are two problems. Shani doesn’t want to be touched, and the other just seems like something that you need to read to find out. The more these two sexy steins are in each other’s presence the more they find that there is an attraction building. Royce and Shani throw of some serious flames while they are burning up the pages. This installment in the series is definitely kinkier than its predecessor. It is topped off with vibrators, strap on dildos, anal play and vibrating enhanced stein body parts.

Seriously. Pegging. And the pegging scene is so good, I actually got stuck in the middle of reading this book cos every time I picked it up again I had to reread the pegging. Note to other authors: try not to catch Charlotte Stein in a pegging loop. She forgets to go to the bathroom, and there are accidents.

A very interesting read....

I didn't like as much as I would have liked, I think I'm glad I read it, it was definitely a new experience in my reading choices but I'm not sure if I'll keep it it coz I can't honestly see myself reading it again....
I wanted to like it,there some very interesting elements and it's really neat to see how the to lead characters change and evolve during what is a relatively short flight on their run from San Fransisco to Seattle ... Less than a week I think but somehow between bonding with Shani and her love and care and I guess seeing how badly some "Steins" we're treated and how brutal the company is when they try to retrieve Royce and take Shani, he (Royce ) some how starts to change and after they escape the 2nd time he actually tells her he hated it, we all guess it's the being a sex bot / slave thing he hated but we're kinda left to draw our own conclusions as to why ( when he started out wanting to run away from her and screaming at her how much He LOVED being a sex bot/slave and didn't seem to care that he was property) and just you can just about figure out why but I'd have like it spelled out maybe, with a few chats about their pasts and when exactly his turning point came.. I mean ppl dying them somehow their taken by companies and reanimated and turned into the these kinda Zombie/cyborgs ? How does that happen ? Are these ppl grave robbers ? Or are you taken straight from the hospital to a lab if your wealthy family isn't there to stop them ? I mean exactly did that become a thing ? There just wasn't enough back story or explanation of things, what was Royces turning point exactly, I know it was gradual but I'd have love it pointed out or discussed how he went from loving being a living sex toy to being happy to be free and with Shani,or was it like a drug finally wearing off, and Shani while it's obvious she was abused ,sexually and probably otherwise ,we're never really privy to any details ,she just gradually come to want, love and desire Royces touch and affection and then suddenly in the epilogue You find out not only are they still together ( hopefully an HEA) but they now like to switch out being each other's Dom on a regular basis and then The End.
I kinda liked the book,it was odd but just odd enough ( if that makes any sense) but I never felt like I really got to know the characters or was able to connect with them, honestly I didn't that much closer to either Royce or Shani at the end than I had been at the beginning ....
And there were soo many things I'd have like to know, like what happened to Royce when he went thru his "training" ,when their almost captured at a sleazy motel ( former stein brothel) Royces former trainer ( who seems like a brutal bastard) is nasty to Shani , Royce gets a weird shiver down his spine and I think his skin starts to crawl the moment he see the Trainer named Jackson ,even though his memory has been wiped of that time it seems it was soo awful it's still left its mark on him, or what it was like fighting his programming for him ( he was supposedly programmed to like both men and women but that never took and when he did have to be with men he said he did his best to pretend they were women) well how did he fight that and how did he love being a "sex toy" if he had to do things he hated soo much, and what about Shani's past and how did she get rescued ? And again how exactly did they end up like this to begin with ? You know, reanimated to begin with ?
I'm glad I tried it but I doubt I'll read more by this writer ( mainly coz I'm not into m/m and that's mainly all she writes except for 3 books out of the love bots series)
But I am glad I tried it a zombie/cyborg was rather interesting...

Shani works to liberate fellow slave stein’s from their lifer captives. When her bosses receive information that a Love-bot is being made to work in a bondage club, it’s the public stunt they have been looking for. The company that makes the steins hasn’t slowed down their production and Royce is one their highest earners. Liberating him will damage them. Freeing him from such a public place isn’t without it’s difficulties, but once they free the reluctant bot, they realise they have bigger problems. Royce is programmed to need sexual release. If he doesn’t have it, then his nervous system starts to play up, leaving him in agony. Unable to see him in pain, and stuck in the middle of nowhere by the operatives trying to get Royce back, Shani has to go some unusual methods to help him out. Being a former sex bot herself, Shani has issues with intimacy with a man. For Royce, she pulls up her big girl panties and utilises some of her more unusual tricks she learnt (i.e. she uses a rather large strap-on on him….). Being stuck on the road with a hot man who you have to sexually service and who has vibrating protruding parts (mind out of the gutter people…I’m talking fingers and tongue, so nearly as good!) is a little bit too tempting even for a woman who doesn’t usually have any attraction to the opposite sex. But, with all the trust issues that she harbours towards men, can she ever truly let him in?

OK, I’m going to be straight with you here. This book may not be for everyone BUT if you can get past the whole strap-on scenes, this is an entertaining read. Personally, I actually thought they were rather hot. Shani had a whole host of baggage going on. An ex-love-bot with quite a lot of men issues, her initial response to Royce was pity. She serviced him because she felt sorry for him, but she kept doing it because she started to have feelings for him (although she maintained it was because she felt sorry for him!). I liked that she didn’t wallow in her issues; I didn’t get a lot of “woe is me”, just a lot of “that’s the way it is”. Royce was more aware than they initially thought. Usually trapped ‘bots don’t have a lot of free will, but because of the whole nerve collar thingy they decided he wouldn’t run. They were right, he was pretty damn happy pimping himself out in that club! He didn’t want to run but once he started getting feelings for Shani, the idea of freedom seemed appealing. I really enjoyed the dynamic between the two of them; Daisy Harris certainly writes compatible couples. There was a lot of humour in this one and also a lot of medical references that I had to look up. I enjoy a book that challenges me a little and you usually don’t get that from erotica!

The sex is hot, the chemisty is sizzling and the world building is pretty damn fun. I think you could read this a stand-alone but, as I loved the first one, I recommend you start there! I liked the Dom/Domme themes that run throughout the book…I especially liked the last scene! Can I see more of them please……..

Studenstein is the exciting sequel to Daisy Harris’ new undead series, Love-Bots. I eagerly gobbled this book up in less then two hours and loved very dirty second of it!

Royce loves being a love bot. Why wouldn’t he? I mean he gets to do naughty naughty things with all kinds of like minded dirty people. That’s why he was built. He’s happy. Until Shani, his golden skinned Goddess walks into the bar and catches his eye. Oh, he’s not ready to be free but he certainly wants to get horizontal…and vertical….and every which way but loose with this stubborn stein.

Shani isn’t there to get down…although it has crossed her mind. Her past in similar to Royce’s although she never liked what she was made to do in those dirty hotel rooms. Now, sex-shy she only wants to show Royce he can be free, but the dumb stein keeps resisting her! When Royces maker activates his debilitating software Shani is left with no choice but to tend to his “needs”.

Studenstein is an awesome edition to the erotic novella world that Elloaras Cave has become infamous for! It’s incredibly fast paced and sexy and full of wow! Royce is hard (heh yes, I know I know) and tough and even though he doesn’t quite understand everything going on around him, highly intelligent. I love how Daisy portrays the steins as programmed but they seem to evolve on their own over time. They learn and grow in intelligence quickly even though they were never meant to. They have feelings.

I highly enjoyed Shani and her ability to overcome her abusive past. I felt bad for the perversity of the humans that were building men and women for the sole purpose of sexual release. I mean, seriously, how desperate for sex are these people? Shani had been used and abused so of course she was skittish with the emotions Royce was awakening in her. I liked her snarky and hard ass attitude that concealed her vulnerability around him. Her quick wit comebacks had me chuckling constantly. Together Royce and Shani are two undead sex bots on a mission – Get Royce off before his programming puts him on the sidelines. Using some, uh, inventive positions they get the job done and Shani slowly opens up to her own sexuality again.

I love Daisy and her sex scenes! Her knowledge of medical conditions and hours of watching porn (heh) for ideas definitely show in each work she produces. She comes up with some crazy stuff. Stuff that sends me straight to Google going “whaaaa? Is that possible?” Every book I read of hers just gets better. I know I’ve said it before, but Daisy is my go-to erotic author. I’ve never been disappointed with her novellas. Someday I hope she will write a full length as I’d love to see what she would do with more time. More evolvement. More action. And of course…MORE SEX!

I give Studenstein by Daisy Harris 4.25 stars!

Upon reading the title of this book I knew I was going to be in for something very unique....and the storyline is indeed unique. In the not so distant future people are being reanimated and technologically enhanced to pleasure clients. They're practically slaves in that they're under full control of the company that created them.

Enter Shaniqua Brown, a former love-bot who was abused and gained freedom after being rescued. She now rescues other love-bots for a small group of Steins to show them another way to live. She's experienced a lot of misery during her existence which has made her steer clear of sex and love. We only discover bits and pieces of what things were like for her and I truly wish we could've learned more about her history. She's a likable character who's tough but has a caring heart hidden under layers of hurt and I respected her intense belief in rescuing other love-bots.

Royce Harden, and what a clever name that is in his profession, doesn't exactly want to be rescued. He likes the adoration and the abilities he has and fights Shani at first. He uses every bit of training to charm her, which she sees through, in his efforts to return to his keepers. As the two interact and start having feelings for one another, Shani slowly convinces him there's more to him than his talents. The sexual interactions between them are a bit one-sided at first due to Shani's fears, but they're a necessity to keep Royce from experiencing excruciating pain due to a chip his owners put in him to keep him close. That doesn't make the interludes any less sexy though. The affection between them builds slowly and is sweet to see. Royce is good dealing with people whereas Shani is brusque and it's his way with people that help them on their journey. I enjoyed seeing the human side to him when he wasn't using his talents and his surprise at learning Shani cared for him even after his enhancements were removed brought a small tear to my eye for what he's experienced in life.

This was an enjoyable read that was over way too soon. The storyline was unique and gave an interesting twist to how we perceive the myth of the Frankenstein monster. The characters were likable and fairly well-developed, although I definitely wish we had more of a glimpse into both Shani and Royce's pasts to better understand who they are now. I also want to add that even if you haven't read the previous book in this series, it won't affect your enjoyment of Studenstein. So go forth and immerse yourself in this thought-provoking world Daisy Harris has created.

Royce Harden is very happy working as a love-bot, thank you very much, and he has no desire to be dragged away from the BDSM club he's working at, even if it's a stunning hellcat stein who is doing the dragging. Shani Brown says she's working with the Zombie Underground, a group working to free steins like him. Royce doesn't care to be free...until he starts spending time off the grid, away from the influence of his makers.

Shani is allergic to sex -- or close enough. As a former sex slave, she has no desire to be intimate with Royce, but when his makers cripple him with punishing pain only orgasm can relieve, Shani can't leave the stein in pain. As Shani and Royce attempt to evade his makers and get back to ZU headquarters, Shani begins to do the unexpected and fall for the sexy love-bot.

The Love-Bots series gets even better with the second installment, Studenstein. Author Daisy Harris continues to build on the imaginative world she created in Lust After Death, and I found myself fascinated by the history and workings of the steins.

World-building aside, Studenstein is a wickedly erotic romance that turns up the heat at unexpected moments and makes you care about its protagonists. Royce is a love-bot who knows how to make the most of his upgrades, but what interested me more than his sexiness was how he grew as a character over the course of the story. Royce is stubborn and a bit vain at the beginning of Studenstein, but as he gets further away from the life he's known, readers get to see the "real" Royce emerge, and he's hot as hell. As for Shani, she's a tough-as-nails stein who's a bit snappy and wholly endearing. She was built to be a sex slave and that (understandably) left its mark on her. It wasn't easy for her to work through her attraction to Royce, but Ms. Harris made the journey well worth it. The only thing that kept Studenstein from being a perfect read for me was the ending, which felt a bit rushed. A big part of the story is Shani's self-described "allergy" toward sex. Because of this, I'd have really liked to see the resolution of this plotline a bit more developed. That being said, I still loved Studenstein; it's sexy, interesting, and leaves you wanting more Love-Bots stories.

So, where do I begin? I can’t say that this is my favorite erotic story. No, not at all. In fact, it’s far from it. I like paranormal romance, and I like erotic, but I don’t always like the futuristic sci-fi types. I just can’t get completely into the story. While this story wasn’t completely off for me, it was a bit not to my liking. That being said, I will say that Ms. Harris’ characters are interestingly created. If you like the futuristic style of writing, then this will be a wonderful addition for you!

Shani’s character is complex and head-strong. She knows what she wants despite being a stein. She’s sent out by Q-Ter to help “rescue” Royce, a Love-Bot. She heads into the BDSM club where he’s at, but what she wasn’t counting on the attraction she felt for him. Now it’s up to her to keep him safe from his current creators, and have him fixed by her own.

Royce is quite happy with his life as a Love-Bot and visiting the BDSM club. Until he faces Shani. But, he has a problem after Shani “rescues”….he’s getting zapped in the…well….um, yea…..there and needs to seek release. Knowing the attraction is strong, he seeks his release in Shani. He’s used to a certain life style and he’s utterly dependent on Shani to help him in that aspect before he goes completely insane with the pain he’s enduring. But, can he convince her to let go and embrace more than just helping him seek his release?

With everything being said above, I have to give praise to Ms. Harris for her unique writing style. She does blend humor into her story and did have me laughing in a few spots throughout. The uniqueness of her writing will definitely bring me back for more in other books, but this one, just didn’t grip me like I was hoping.

Royce is very happy with his existence as a bot...until he sees Shani. Shani catches his eye as no other woman has. He knows he must have her. Shani actually has a similar, sordid past as Royce's...she, however, was never entirely happy or fulfilled. She wants to show Royce that he, too, deserves to be free. The story takes off from there with a battle of wills and hearts.

Shani was my favorite character. She was headstrong, smart, and brave. Royce needed a kick in the bottom sometimes, good thing Shani was often there to dole one out; however, his character was very interesting, he literally evolved over time. In a short story, I prefer that the main characters are the only ones who are really focused upon; the author carried this out wonderfully, the reader gets to know Shani and Royce very well. The events were steamy and unstructured with a hint of realism thrown in. The ending was perfect. I can't wait to read more by this author!

Royce Harden isn't looking to be rescued from the BDSM club where he works, but that doesn't stop
Freedom fighter Shani Brown. She is determined to drag him off to Seattle.

Along the way, Royce decides that being free might not be so bad as long as he doesn't have to suffer through the physical pain of not still being connect to the network.

An interesting tell of a love-bot, which I took to mean an electronic life form, but in true is a person that has lost his memory of his prior life and now is a slave to a corporation that used them however they chose.

The fight for freedom in this tale has the reader quickly cheering for this unlikely couple and turns up the heat with some evocative scenes.

Zombies should not be sexy. Daisy Harris proves once again they can be made very sexy. Lust after Death was a super sexy read but this one is even more kinky. Which I liked. The only real complaint I have is that I wish her zombie stories were longer, an hour or two just seems to leave me wanting more.

I absolutely loved this book. Lust After Death was good, but I connected more with Shani and Royce. So much fun and such great love scenes! I was really pulled in by Shani's backstory. It added a higher level of emotional intensity. A great book all around.
