Dr. Yoko Kamimura's safe, predictable routine as a behavioral optometrist at the College of Optometry in New York is shattering. When the stranger who comes up to Yoko on East 23rd Street and warns her of danger is shot to death, safe and predictable switches to murder and mayhem. The very next day, there's a catastrophe at the iconic National Arts Club and Yoko's grandmother is left in a coma after a vicious attack.
Frustrated by the dismissive attitude of Detective Dan Riley at the 13th Precinct, Yoko vows to turn sleuth, but work and bizarre events keep her scrambling. Not even a prestigious conference 3,000 miles away in England in the tranquil coastal city of Bournemouth and a visit to Christchurch's 11th- century priory are havens for Yoko.
Now she is in the killer's cross-hairs and the chase is on...in and around the Gramercy Park area, sometimes at No 34, New York's first coop building, sometimes at the abandoned Quaker Meeting House and eventually at the famous Pete's Tavern.

This isn't one of the better cozies I've read, so I have to go with a weak 3 stars. But I am willing to give more of the series a chance if I see them.
I think one of the issues was that it was more focused on science than character I think. I know facts about the main character, but I have little sense of her personality--little feel of who she is. Although I have learned tons about her job.
Add to this a small flaw of the daughter first mentioned when the dr tries to find her, but that she can't have known about. This crops up trivially in the end also. Luckily it isn't a critical issue, but annoying.
Yoko is a behavioural optometrist who becomes broiled in a series of violent crimes - but what connects them ? Includes helpful information about optometry and brain injury.
