To think, I found this book by accident. It was published in 1986 and existed all this time without my knowledge. As of the writing of this review, mine is the only one on Good Reads. It almost pains me that this book has been forgotten, or worse, passed over.
Along with the author's great concern over "the annexing of museum culture for marketing and the repudiation of historical preservation", the fact that it feels so relevant still, but most especially in today's political climate, is almost eerie.

In ‘Selling Culture,’ Silverman offers a withering criticism of 1980’s Reagan Aristocracy Culture, and the mixing of art institutions and commerce. It’s a fierce, bracing read, and a reminder that Reagan and the rise of the gap between the rich and poor in America were not just celebrated.

A good read, highly opinionated, and worth discussing.
